I rescued this VC Schilling commission Kar 88 (S marked) today from an auction. It's rusted pretty bad but I saw something that still resembled rifling in the bore, so she might be salvageable. Im thinking 0000 steel wool for the exterior. Any advice, /k/?

lots of hoppes and 100% brass wool

What about for the bore? Just the usual patch?

100% copper wool, 0000 steel is for oldfags that think its 1967 still.
use copious amounts of gun oil with that copper wool too.
for the bore let it soak with either oil or solvents, and then use brush a few times, then patches until they come out clean, and then brush again etc, until its clean
good find anon, how much it cost you?

a patch and you guessed it, hoppes

$260
I almost rescued a Swiss Vetterli as well, but I didn't want to bid too much because it looked pretty far gone.

Where do you find this copper wool stuff? All the internet turns up is a wire mesh to keep mice out of your garage.

Hobby shops.

Like a Micheal's?

Just about every single large hardware store. Right beside the steel wool in the finish aisle.

Oh sweet thanks. Also, would restoring a Carcano that has a cut stock be a good choice? The metal looks good and the guy only wants 125 for it.
