Existing popular calibers have been around for 50+ years. It's only natural that guns chambered in them would eventually converge or similar designs, or just outright the same platform (1911s, ARs). The big changes recently have been in sighting (fiber optics, RDS, better variable optics), and ammunition (.300blk, 6.5mm CM/G, etc.). The really big hope is that parts of the NFA go away, allowing manufacturers more room to work with. Ruger is jumping out in front of this trend, manufacturing an integrally suppressed barrel for the 10/22. Do you really think Ruger of all companies would be doing this if the Hearing Protection Act didn't stand a solid chance of passing?

The only solution is to repeal the Hughes Amendment.

Also, considering the lack of iron sights on bolt actions, is it too much to ask for a company to offer a decent longer red dot sight that mounts like a regular scope?
