Now, something like 7.62x54r has an average muzzle energy of around 3700J. A supermag slug like a Brenneke Black Magic has a muzzle energy of approximately 4000J. So pretty comparable.

At 25m those drop to 3650J and 3000J respectively. Still pretty close, but notice how fucking fast the slug is losing energy.

At 50m you're looking at 3500J and 2300J respectively. Opened way the fuck up.

And if you compare that to a "normal" slug and not the only commercial SUPER ULTRAMAG BEARFUCKER slug, oh say a Federal Truball, it has a muzzle energy of 2230J and drops to under 1500J by 50 yards.

In fact, the casing is gaining more energy and acceleration than the bullet, because of how the casing traps more of the expanding gasses, and therefore pressure, whereas gasses and pressure escape the barrel before the bullet does.

A bullet can definitely knock someone over because people unprepared for recoil can fall on their ass. Of course, if your footing was good and you knew it was coming it would be less likely, but a slug slamming into an unawares enemy could easily topple them.
