>>
>>33930120
Fugg, couldn't really see the thumbnail on my phone, thought that was for a carbine.
>>
>>33929301
it means they're closing but they need to bolster their employee count to sustain their desired business to achieve their desired goals before closing. Alot of times when a store declares they're closing their current employment base drops by half from people who jump ship early.

It makes perfect/practical sense in so much as you can't run a store of any size without employees.

Tl;Dr They're not looking for perm. employees they're looking for replacements to run the store properly until they finally close. take a basic economic course.
>>
>>33929301
Looks like Killeen, TX
>>
>>33930483
The funny thing is, these temps usually get paid significantly better than the the people they're replacing.

t. someone who worked 3 months as a temp during Sports Authority's going-out-of-business sales and got paid $20/hr when the normal employees were getting $7.65/hr (minimum wage).
>>
>>33929301
I saw the same kind of thing at a Kmart going out of business liquidation sale. Thought it was funny.
>>
>>33930562
yea, and you got paid that because the agreement you made with the company had a clearly marked end date on it. With a standard employment contract they don't usually specify that within few months you are going to be unemployed.
>>
>>33930626
True, but nobody that had been with the company before they announced they were closing was getting raises or severance pay. They were just assed out.

Because there's not a real difference between
>hey, this is a contract for 3 months of work
and
>hey, you will fired in 3 months, we're not going to pay you any more while simultaneously making you do more shit to cover the people who did quit and hiring a bunch of new people for 2.5-3x what you're paying you even though they have no seniority and much lighter responsibilities. Please don't quit!
Right?
>>
>>33930092
Shit like that makes me hope people go in there and just steal shit. Cabelas is almost as terrible.
>>
>>33930667
There is a techincal difference, in that to entice you to take on temp work they have to offer higher wages, and the idea of people staying on is that they have the ability to transfer to a different store that is still open, whereas you as temp labor are just dropped at the end of the contract.

But to a realistic degree there is no difference other than the people who stayed on are either dumb or really really risk adverse/socially compliant
>>
>>33930717
Except none of the Sports Authority stores stayed open. The company simply flat-out stopped existing, they weren't even bought by anybody. And this was something everybody knew MONTHS before the doors closed.
>>
>>33930705
Agreed.

My favorite was their Under Armour fishing shit.
>factory UA tag lists MSRP, which most people adhere to up until it goes on clearance
>not Gouger Mountain, they put a store price tag (partially) over the MSRP, to where you can still read the MSRP
Was looking at the UA button-down fishing shirts. MSRP is $59.99. They were on "clearance" for $89.97, with a $109.99 sticker under that and a $129.99 sticker under that one. But take an extra FIVE PERCENT OFF LOWEST TICKET PRICE for going out of business sale! Because I really wanna pay $85.50+tax for a $60 shirt that even tells you it's a $60 shirt.

Worst part is, there's a UA outlet store literally in the same parking lot as that Gander. Went over there and the same shirts were $44.99.
>>
>>33930795
Okay now I wanna find one just to steal shit. Good thing there are none in central Texas.
>>
>>33930818
I don't wanna steal shit, but I do wanna go in there and just be That Really Shitty Retail Customer.

You know the type, the one that moves shit to the wrong racks, knocks shit off hangers and just lets it lay on the floor, trashes fitting rooms, pesters employees incessantly, leaves half-drunk Starbucks cups on shelves, so on so forth.
>>
>>33929301
Trump winning has been an absolute nightmare for sellers/manufacturers of firearms (short term, I mean. Long term it's obviously for the best.) They all stocked up heavy in anticipation of an unprecedented buying rush due to fear of a Clinton gun grab. Now that we know the 2A is safe for at least another 4 years, nobody is buying anything. Gander Mountain is probably getting hammered, I mean, all I ever see anyone buying there is ammo and such.

Blaming the employees for the corporate model is pretty shitty.
>>
>>33930946
>>33930942
I partially blame the employees for willingly working for that shit-tier company. They basically prolonged its death and allowed that faggotry to continue. But you do have a point.

Also it does hurt the pocketbook of the corporation more than retail theft does. The corporation is insured against theft, but having to significantly increase payroll to clean up giant clusterfucks of messes constantly is quite a bit more expensive.

t. retail manager
>>
>>33930975
I mean dude they gotta work to support themselves and sometimes a family. You realize they have pretty much no say in pricing, right?
>>
I will exprain anons.

Camping World bought the Gander Mountain name and the leases on their physical locations. They did NOT buy their inventory. A liquidation company has been brought in to move the inventory before the hand-over of the location. A lot of the stores will be staying open under the Gander Mountain name, but they will have all new inventory so it's not outside the realm of probability that those locations still need staff.
>>
>>33930994
Retail is always hiring. The wage difference between somewhere like Gander and Macy's/JC Penny/etc is going to be at most a couple cents an hour. They had and will continue to have options for alternate employment.

And yes, retail workers, even at the lowest levels, have SOME say in pricing. It's not definitive or immediate, but they are asked at least quarterly whether their store's pricing is in line with competitors in the area. This info is collected by (depending on corporation) either the store manager or the regional manager via anonymous survey, collated, checked against responses from other stores in the region, and pushed upward with itemized recommendations on prices. Successful companies adjust prices accordingly, unsuccessful companies continue to be full jewmode and go the way of the Gander.
>>
>>33931008
70 stores will retain the Gander Mountain name, out of the (iirc) 178 total Gander Mountains. That's a cunthair over a third of the stores, I'd hardly call that "a lot of".

You are correct on the liquidation company and the remaining stores getting all-new inventory.
>>
>>33929301
Larger places usually hire people as temps do the final break down, inventory moving for liquidation and final building clean up
>>
Gander Mountain corporate franchise employee here, the business-closing savings DO NOT apply to guns or ammo.

I repeat:
>THERE ARE NO REDUCED PRICES ON GUNS OR AMMO

Go somewhere else for guns and ammo, we charge way too much because the company refuses to hire adequate gun specialists, so they just go off of internal catalogue prices, which are fucked.
>>
>>33930526
Nope. Niles, OH.
>>
>Stop in to local Gander to see if they have any good gun clearance deals
>Only a select few cleaning supplies are 10% off, all guns and ammo are still regular price

"That sucks, maybe I'll find something cool in the used sect-"

>YUGO SKS
>ONLY $549.00

Gee, how could they possibly have gone bankrupt...
>>
>>33930795
I work for UA and this made me chuckle. Thanks anon.
>>
>>33931128
From the same day

>Walking along the gun counter over to the used section
>Overhear an older man talking to the clerk behind the counter

"Yup, sure is unfortunate you guys are going under. I probably bought 50 guns from here myself."

I kinda felt bad for the old man. He must have overpaid a small fortune there. It's not like my town is lacking local gun stores with actually sane prices.
>>

TELL YOUR CORPORATE OVERLORDS TO STOP PUTTING NEON FUCKING GREEN STRIPES ON THEIR CAMO HUNTING APPAREL
Not everybody hunts colorblind animals ffs
>>
>>33931206
I wish I could. I'm pretty sure they do that to sort or function as a replacement for wearing bright Orange I guess? I'm not really sure.
>>
>>33931116
Whata gonna happen to guns when they go out of business?
>>
>>33931225
uh...no.

For one, all states that have a hunter-visibility requirement require HUNTER ORANGE specifically. No other color allowed.

For two, all states that have a hunter-visibility requirement require a set number of square inches of hunter orange, usually in the 100-140 square inches range. Two stripes and a neon green zipper don't even come remotely close.

They do it solely for brand recognition.
>>
>>33931230
The liquidation company will hang on to them as long as they can, attempting to sell them at sticker price, and sell the remainder to a big-name auction company for a lump sum.

That's what Sports Authority did, and it's the same liquidation firm handling Gander.

I worked for a department store that closed. Everything desireable will be gone before discounts go beyond 50-60%. They are very slow and methodical in their discounting, as the people that run these liquidations do it for a living.

So, your best bet is probably getting a sweet deal on some fixtures, maybe a nice shop table or some equipment. Remember, EVERYTHING must go.
>>
>>33930717
Also temps usually get no benefits like health coverage etc... Company going out of business may still be paying into employee 401K or retirement plan.
>>

I always enjoyed going into my local one and reading the tags. The 40mm Glocks are always good.

Ours is 5% off as of today. Every thursday the price drops another 5% for three months.
However they are auctioning off all the firearm inventory and there is already a bidder. If they purchase the inventory prices will jump back up.

They sell kayaks at gander mountain and many people have been falling out of them, therefore once someone buys a kayak, they must list personal information and give said information to a reputable employee in order to have supervision while in use.

Not enough people sign up for that job. It's tough, it's rigorous, and it's not for the faint at heart. Thousands of Kayaks drown every year.

bought a bunch of HP-38 and power pistol for $18/lb... also a couple columbia shirts... everything else was still more expensive than Academy... I went back the next week and all the rest were gone... They still had WST for 25% off the normal 39.99 fucking dollars which is insane... They also didn't have whole bricks of primers, just sold individual sleeves... I should probably go back and see if the dies have dropped any more... working store liquidation is pretty great since you get free crap. Or maybe I was just lucky since I started as seasonal, then was kept on to liquidate the store as it had to move.

I got half of the break room since they couldn't sell the stuff in there and no one had a car big enough for most things.

>Trump winning has been an absolute nightmare for sellers/manufacturers of firearms (short term, I mean. Long term it's obviously for the best.)
That just shows how thick in the head gun owners are. Common sense would tell you now is the time to buy anything you can afford because guns are going to be the cheapest they've been since 2008. Instead I have to listen to all the old guys talk about how they never have to worry about buying guns anymore.
>>
>>33937032
Guns will be cheaper a little down the line. The biggest rises in costs have always been during times where they are going to be banned or are at higher chances of being banned. Since the risk of banning is down considerably that means less sales and now you can buy at your leisure. You know how you wait for sales on food at the market or discounts/coupons on TVs or whatever? Yeah. Like that.

Swear to god, if I wasn't in California, I would not have half the guns I do now. Most of them were purchased because they were getting banned or some other time limiting factor.

If this is true, it's a shame. The one by me has a really, really nice indoor range for pistols.

It's something like $25 for a lane for an hour, but the target holders are computerized, the ventilation is second to none to any indoor range I've been to, the ROs are always bro-tier, you can rapid fire (within reason), you can get as many targets as you like (within reason, and they have different ones) and they even have lead removing wipes right there in the stalls.

I'll probably try and go before they close. I just hate having to shoot brass.

Everything else, from earplugs to ammo, is expensive as shit.

I'll mourn the loss of the range and that's about it.

>Gun owners are thick in the head

Nah nigga, it's the sellers that are thick. I mean ARs are at an all time low price, sure, but most everything else is still trying to be hawked at prices like sandy hook was yesterday. Everytime I go on gun broker, I see a bunch of unreasonably priced guns sitting with no bids, and all of the reasonably priced guns seem to go. IDK about you, but I'm just waiting them out (unless I do find a fair price on something I want), because eventually they'll either lower their prices or go under, and then their inventory will end up on liquidation websites anyway.
>>
>>33937043
>Since the risk of banning is down considerably that means less sales and now you can buy at your leisure.
I don't understand this logic. Why not buy what you want for the next 3 years at a low price so you can laugh your way past the dipshits panic buying for the 2020 election? Decent ARs can be had for $500 on the web right now, but in 3 years we are going to hear people bragging about their DPMS Sportical they got for just $500 dollarydoos because "well I just wanted to have one in case the bad guys win". They could have bought an AR-556 or M&P15 Sport II for the same price when they were at home dick stroking how safe all their guns are.
>>
>>33937145

>>
>>33937154
Who says it is 3 years? Why can't they buy in 2 years? 1 year? Why do they have to buy right this moment? The point is that instead of having to buy buy buy off sale they can wait for a discount, a rebate, or otherwise. You know how it was building up to the election. People thought Hillary was going to win and so they were buying anything they thought would be banned. Now they don't have to buy anything and everything.
>>
>>33937248
>Now they don't have to buy anything and everything.
