Dress uniforms, as they are now, are a wasteful uniform that has no other purpose but to look good on parade or in front of leadership and show off the useless trinkets on your chest.
And 99% of the time it sits in a vacume sealed bag in the back of the closet for when you or your unit fuck up, or because someone decided to say fuck it lets do a random inspection instead of our actual job.
The dress uniform needs to go and whatever service uniform you have should be what is used instead (albeit a much cleaner well kept one)

We have three uniforms: a working one (Tenü C), one which serves as some kind of dress uniform (Tenü A) and a clean, nicer working uniforn worn with béret (Tenü B), pic related. I think there was a lot of "in our own image" going on as well. Dressing the Japs up in American-style gear was a good way of reminding them who was boss.

These new uniforms are particularly interesting in that they're the most visible statement of Japan's military identity since WWII. They've got a lot of callbacks to pre-WWII Japanese gear, and the white version in particular reminds me a lot of old-school IJN uniforms.

I'm a bit sad to see the old ones go, though. I've always liked that style, especially in green. (On that note, fuck the Army for switching to blue.)
