I'm genuinely surprised at how many people carry appendix. It has the advantages of possibly being easier to draw while seated and maybe weapon retention, but not only is muzzle towards peen mentally uncomfortable, it's physically uncomfortable with the gun on occasion digging into your stomach (inb4 fat, I'm 6'0 170). Carrying at 3-4 just seems the most comfortable and in the event of an ND or mechanical failure, you're likely to at most be grazed or suffer a minor wound. Get a good belt and holster (maybe with a little forward cant), lose the ultra tight tees, and you won't print as much as you think.

I agree that part of the issue with Glocks is they are very common and very popular. Gun store employees also recommend them to inexperienced gun owners since they are simple to use.

Obviously it makes sense that if there are more of them in use, they will have potentially more NDs.

But I think it also obviously makes more sense that there are safer guns out their. Grip safeties, manual safeties, external hammers, higher trigger pull weights, etc, are all going to make a gun inherently safer.
