No more so than any other infantry and enlisted personnel are. Their entry requirements and training are pretty strict and old fashioned, and their units are usually like that as well with some weird structures and their own gurkha unit culture. As for effectiveness that's a very fickle thing and 'you're only as good as your last fight' etc.

It actually hurts that the US army don't have state designated regiments with distinct uniforms to represent there state. I'm not suggesting cowboy hats for Texas and pizza grease stains for New York but man the British army uniforms are just so diverse with Kilts, green jackets, and different beret styles. Its such a shame that the US states aren't as unique because of their regimental system.

Yeah but it's not like they teach knife sharpening in Catterick, I mean the most fucked up my knife has ever been is when I lent it to a Cpl when I was a nig just in battalion. It took hours to re-grind the bevel and re-profile the tip. He used it as a scewdriver to adujst SUSATs up and down the firing point. Knife ignorance is now engrained in everybody, especially in the UK. Only professionals like joiners who still use a lot of hand tools and regular people with the specific interest know about proper knife care these days.
