So I just got a Rossi M92 SPL in .44 magnum. It was imported by Interarms, and the box has "Puma" on it. From what research I've done, it can be anywhere from 75-90s; however the serial numbers seem useless and Rossi has been no help in providing any info. The model number on the box, is RSR-35103

Does anyone have more info on this? Also, post your leverfuns.

just how fucking old are you? Don't get me wrong, I'd hang out and listen to you talk about nam, but that's neither here nor there.

Anyway, I owned a 30-30, was a fun game. Was afraid it was hot so I sold it for a fifty buck profit. I wouldn't mind having a .22 levergat to load with subs with a fairly large can though. Outside of that, I cannot find a lever gun practical enough to justify by it's aesthetics alone.

Nice freedom stick, anon. I don't have one yet, but it'll be the next addition to my family. I fell in love with Big Horn Armory's levers in 500 S&W, but they are too pricey. I might just go with something in 45-70, but I'm also looking at the ones that load pistol rounds. I can't decide.

Bullshit, I'm going to need dick with timestamp to believe that, gramps.

Anyway, nothing wrong with hunting with a levergun. I'd do it if I owned one for a few choice animals. However, I'm assuming laws come into play though?

Whatchu' normally wear in the bush, whilst hunting? I opt for the short shorts because Rhodesian war was aesthetic as hell.
>>
>>33915939
What law exclude anything above .30? Would be stupid enough that even the most antigun fudd would call bullshit.
>>
>>33915939
No I'm seriously 21.

And I generally hunt in jeans, an orange hoodie and hat. Sometimes a coat too, depending on weather. Short shorts would be fucking miserable for whitetail season.

>From what research I've done, it can be anywhere from 75-90s; however the serial numbers seem useless and Rossi has been no help in providing any info.

Why the fuck would it matter? No one is going to be collecting Rossis, ever.
>>
>>33915975
Because I post on 4chan and therefore at minimum have mildy autistic tenancies. I like to know everything about every gun I own. With the Rossi, the quality varies WIDELY. 1975-1988 are good, 1988-2000s shit; and 2000+ filled with shitty safeties and lawyer intrusions.
>>
>>33915962
There are states that exclude anything but shotguns.

Sell it and buy a Chiappa. Or a Browning. Or a Miroku Winchester. All are better than a Rossi.

I assumed bush meant hot climate. As far as safety orange? c'mon man, that's really a big turn off.

Meant along the lines as far as gun choice for thick bush. I have no magazine cap limits on any game animal that's not restricted at the federal level.

this here's a 1918 production Win 94 that I owned for about a week. The guy I traded it for was a good sport and took it back after I cleaned out the bore and found that it was fucked six ways to Sunday. Never trust old farmers to take care of their shit.
>>
>>33916103
>Is that good? Do they have any notable problems?

Apart from people disliking what is typically thought of as a lawyer-mandated safety, they are perfectly fine guns. Winchester has never been know for making unreliable guns. I just wouldn't consider it much of an heirloom given that it was likely made in the last decade.

But given the fact that it seems to be quite rare (short mag tube, uncommon chambering, engraving indicates it may be a commemorative model), it would probably be considered an heirloom by the time you pass it on to your grandkids. Definitely worth keeping, and the fact that your grandfather gave it to you means it already has a story attached to it.
>>

How much did you pay for it?

Eventually I saw a deal for a .45-70 that I couldn't pass up, and he wanted a .44 mag. I'd been lusting after a .45-70 for a while, so I jumped on the deal as soon as I could. It was a great rifle, and a friend of mine made me some pretty warm loads to try through it. Shooting it was not always pleasant.

The other guy is a Henry .22. It was a fun little plinker. Sadly I had to get rid of the duo to pay for some car stuff. I'm hoping to find my way into a .45-70 again, that shit was cash.

This guy here is a more permanent fixture in my gun safe. It's a '68 Marlin 336 RC, traded for a shotgun from an older dude who kept it as a truck gun. The blueing was a little worn, but the bore is in perfect shape and the action is amazingly smooth...I'd almost say it's better than my Henry .357. It was in dire need of some TLC when I got it, but I learned how to completely disassemble a Marlin 336 and gave it a good deep clean. It's not the most super accurate rifle out there - I blame the microgroove rifling - but it's dependable and in just bad enough external shape where I don't mind if it gets beat up.

>>33916568
With modern steels I don't really perceive that as a problem, they are hot for a pistol carriage but in the end their pressures as it relates to stress on the action are probably on par with 30-30
>>
>>33916580
The problem is that .357 generates over 2.5 times the chamber pressure as .44-40, and modern metallurgy can only do so much. I wouldn't be concerned about it failing immediately (all Italian-made firearms are proofed at something like 130% of maximum pressure), but those kind of extra forces are definitely going to wear on a gun after thousands of rounds.

hnnnggggg

Here's my new baby. A 1974 Win '94, 30-30. I was going to buy it for 300, but the guy talked himself down to 275. (I know I said 250 in the recent thread I'm retarded)

So, /k/, which is more popular / better?
ring or clean?
safety or not?
curved loop/grip or straight?
top ejection or side ejection?
rifle cartridge or pistol?

my preferences are all pretty much summed up in pic related
>>
>>33916883
Most popular is clean, no safety with a straight grip for 94s. Mostly divided on cartriage and ejection angle but 30-30 is the most prevalent.

What is known is the changeover from forged to cast receivers and varying cost saving measures like stamped parts and roll pins http://www.dulite.com/dulite_94_win_oxide.html which for the early models were thin and the alloy not taking traditional bluing, the worst batches being from 68-72 is a sore topic with Winchester solving this by outsourcing to Miroku and making them forged again but people still aren't fond of the safety.
>>
>>33916961
>the worst batches being from 68-72 is a sore topic with Winchester solving this by outsourcing to Miroku

Miroku didn't start making Model 94s until roughly 2010.
>>
>>33916974
I stand corrected, was aware of that happening some time after that, though I will admit the main things I know of is the period of 68-72 because my rifle is of that and the receiver finish is so damn fucking thin and garbage. They say it wont take nirmal bluing but Ill probably strip it and try for a cold bluing, if that doesn't work I'll just bake on an alumahyde finish.
>>
I have a henry in 30.30 but I'm gonna sell it because I hate having to load the mag tube so I want to replace it with something with a feed gate

Something about the marlin levers themselves really dont feel comfortable

How are winchester lever rifles? the 1886 looks purty

also open to other suggestions to levers with a straight stock, loading gate, and either 357 or 44 or 45-70

The Winchester 1894 is one of the most popular sporting rifles in the world for a reason. The 1886 and 1892 are similarly excellent.

Let's say hypothetically I had a Magnum Research BFR in .45/70 and a levergat also in .45/70, like a Marlin Guide Gun.

Should I make the revolver look like the Ranger Sequoia to match the wood furniture on the Guide Gun, or make the Guide Gun match the revolver?
>>
>>33917305

Now if they made the BFR in .458 SOCOM I'd consider pairing it with an AR but even then I'd put wood furniture on both if I could.

The Sears 100 seems like an okay deal.

More than one internet forum argued against a .454casull lever action rifle because the pressure is too high for the action.

The 1892 action is quite strong (some say even stronger than the 1894), but the main issue I see is that it was designed around a cartridge with an overall length of 1.6" and .454 Casull is noticeably longer than that.

>he is okay with having a gf that had many penises in her that aren't yours
>he is not okay with having a gun that never had any penis inside her because people who would be sexually attracted to their guns are the kind of people that would never sell any gun anyway

Marlin had a bumpy road in 2011ish when Freedom Group bought them and they realized all of their tooling was super old and worn out and out of spec, which is why they went through a huge quality decline for a few years. They unfucked themselves though and current production 1894s are good to go. Old ones are good as well.

375$ canadian dollars for a 1949 marlin 336A 30-30 in okay condition. Should I go for it?

If the bore is in good shape, yes. External wear adds a little character to the gun.
