Wanting first AK.

Cabelas only has RAS-47s and C92V2s and the locally owned funshop has a rack full of WASRs but they all have magwobble like a mad cunt. What do?

Was thinking about getting an SLR from KVAR, even though I really like buying my guns local.
>>
>>33917413
>READ THE PASTEBIN
Fuck buying local, only transfer locally.

>Implying you know what mag wobble really is or how it might affect function.
AK mags can still move even when locked in.
>>
>>33917421
I did read the pastebin. That's why I'm considering buying an SLR from KVAR.

And these WASRs wobble wise to side several millimeters and make loud metal-on-metal slapping noises when maneuvered around. The RAS-47s and C92V2s don't do that.
>>
>>33915725
You're retarded
>>
>>33917431
Side to side doesn't matter that much.
Front to back wobble is what can affect function.
It's a side effect of tolerance stacking; some mags might be tight, other looser.

>The RAS-47s and C92V2s don't do that.
That's nice, too bad they are made with sub-par components and will more than likely spontaneously disassemble themselves.

The SLR is a good choice, but know the same thing will be likely.
>also the funky amalgam of components will fuck with you once you know AKs more intimately
90 degree gas blocks and 14/1LH muzzles don't belong on the same rifle.
>>
>>33917455
>Side to side doesn't matter that much.
Ah. Alright then.

>That's nice, too bad they are made with sub-par components and will more than likely spontaneously disassemble themselves.
And that's why I'm not going to buy one. They weren't in the pastebin and I know they're not as good, they're just tighter.

As long as the side-to-side wobble isn't a big deal, I'll probably pick up a WASR next payday.
>>
>>33917472
Do you have any mags you can test in it?
Several mags of differing countries of origin and "sizes"?
That would be the ideal test to see if it's going to be an issue.
But if it's just a few mm with any given mag, it shouldn't be an issue.
>>
>>33917474
Nah, this is my first AK.

The mags that come with the gun wobble side-to-side but they don't wobble front-to-back.

Got my 7.62 RPK barrel yesterday. Do you happen to have any good hi-res pics of RPK 203s? I need to see if my barrel needs to be turned for the proper profile.

By the looks of it, I don't because it appears to just be straight cut, but I'm not sure.
>>
>>33919428
I have a whole high res photoset but it's on my laptop at home
>>
>>33919354
Do you have any plans on what you're gonna do for a barrel, receiver, and builder for that yet?
>>
>>33919441
Fack. Actually, I might have saved it the last time you posted your slav file. brbrb.
>>
So my friend is pretty insistent that we aren't going to be getting anything else from molot because of them being bought by KC? What's all this about?

I saved it, and by the looks of it, the Russian barrel is slightly turned down. Not sure how much more than the Bulgarian.

I'm probably not going to even fuck with it unless I can find the original plans for the barrel that actually shows proper diameters.

If you happen to have that stashed somewhere, or know where I could find it, that'd be pretty cool though.

Every picture I've seen of an rpk-203 on google looks identical to my vepr-1v rpk, minus a differently shaped mag.
I could probably take some specific pictures for you if you want once I get home if I don't have what you want to see. I'm at work now.

I'm mostly worried about the barrel profile. I'm the RPK 74M clone guy, so I have a barrel to look at, but that's way more thinned out than the 7.62 barrel I purchased. It also appears more thin than the Russian 7.62 RPK barrel profile.

Forgot to tag you in my post.

Also, let us know when you find out what that guy from K-Var had to do to his Vepr, if anything, to use the factory folder. I need to know if I should be searching for the entire trunnion set and just buy a square back.

>>

I sent him a message on Facebook but he never replied. He seems to be active on akfiles as U/N KrinkCliff. At the very least the rear trunnion rivets were removed, because they are not original. Or maybe he just flattened the original rivets to make it clone correct? Couldn't tell you. It would be enlightening if he would speak up on what exactly was done.

I'll have to send him a message or start a thread on the RPK side of the board.

I actually saw a dude with the 16" 5.45 with clubfoot on Fuckbook the other day. Maybe he started with the factory folder.

Somebody has to definitively know if it'll work or not.

>I actually wondered the exact same thing about my barrel just yesterday.

I'm pretty sure it's correct, but the anon with the 1V should be able to shed some light. Maybe he can get his hands on a micrometer and tell you for sure.

I got a barrel from KVar that was delivered yesterday, and I'm planning on picking up a 74uLLC receiver and going through either POHF (if they answer) or Meridian (depending on how long it takes them to finish Endless Wait '83 Kit Anon's build). I want it built the absolute best it can be built and as close to original as I can get it. I'm gonna have to wait until either some guns of mine sell or a few paychecks because I'm really broke right now, I've already spent ~$850 on stuff for this kit plus I just bought a $1500 safe on Saturday so no spending money for a bit. It's not a big deal with the kit though, I figure it's gonna take another year at least to get a receiver and get it built so what's another month or two saving money in the grand scheme of things

I would be able to take measurements off the real thing, but I'm pretty sure the guy I got my kit from is going to actually demill the parts for me before he sends them, which means I won't get the barrel stubs.

Got my first tracking number today. Haven't felt this kind of excitement in a while, not knowing if it'll make it or not.

If you filter tap water through a Brita pitcher it will taste perfectly fine. I have a Brita pitcher and spare filters that I got for free because some small parts were broken. It's good tasting water. Plus it helps filter out the fluoride that the Jews put in the water to make you complacent and sedentary.

>>
>>33919989
Cool. I'm specifically looking for the RSB/Railed dust cover. If I can get the whole kit, neat, if I can just get my hands on those parts, that'd be cool too.

If I can't get one at all, I'll just have to settle for the older style. I'd ask somebody if they could pick up a saiga 9 and just chop it, but that'd be more expensive and I've heard that they were having issues with their railed dust cover cracking or something. I don't know if they switched materials or something, but it's just fucky.

If you find anything out, could you email me? It's the same one from the other day where we discussed the Vepr rear trunnion and such.
>>
>>33920056
The good thing about the Saiga 9 is that you could get a non-deactivated bolt though. Otherwise you will have to get one custom fab'd. I'll send you an email.

I wouldn't take in a beat up Colt for a built krink kit.

It is guaranteed to go to the moon in value
It is much easier to sell than an NFA item
It appeals to Colt collectors, 1911 collectors, and US militaria collectors, which is a huge chunk of the US firearm collecting scene
And it has the uniqueness of being the only modern firearm you can buy that was actually issued to US military personnel.

Compared to a boutique parts kit build with a very limited scope of potential buyers.

It checks a lot of boxes

I mean I'd have no issues about it taking 7+ months had they said so from the beginning, not every month when you get a hold of them they tell you one more month. I'm sure it'll be worth it in the long run and it'll be a beautiful and fantastic rifle but I just wish they'd be up front about time frames, I know you went into the build knowing it'd take time for them to build it but still

At the very least Meridian is at the top of the list for builders for my kit simply because I know I can get a hold of them

Yeah, that's part of why I keep giving them so much leeway - like 74U LLC, they're in high demand because they turn out quality product, and I put in a build order with them at what was probably the worst possible time since early 2013. They're backed up hard and I know it. They're definitely on top of their communication though, far moreso than 74U LLC, and that's a big plus in an industry where the in-demand builders regularly just drop off the face of the earth entirely sometimes. I've never had their phone ring go for more than 2 rings whenever I call them during business hours.

You want good transfer of energy, make sure the rifle is braced against something solid when you hit the pin, and make sure your punch/pick is rigid enough to transfer the energy.. A 5.45 bullet will get it most of the way, just make sure you're striking it with something flat.

So a while ago I bought some of the battlefield pickup stocks from apex. My question is, why were there akm stocks in the Balkan wars? It says on apex that they are Romanian, but wouldn't all the AKs used in the conflict be yugo? Did Romania arm some of the groups fighting?

Chimps/Zasta - are the rear trunnions on Russian AKS-74s finished in the same way as the receiver? I just realized the one I sent to Meridian was still either parked or raw sandblasted and that the outer pinholes would be a starkly different color from the rest of my receiver. If they were painted once installed on the gun, I'm going to take advantage of the extended wait and call to make sure he finishes the rear trunnion since I asked him to preserve original finish wherever possible.

As far as I can tell the trunnion itself was painted over, but the button wasn't.
