We're talking about a matter of degrees. HMG said even if they wanted to they couldn't have made a perfect clone. The changes--to me--are all improvements, since I am not interested in reenacting. Specifically, I see the aesthetics/form generally maintained, and any deviation from the original, if we trust HMG, is economically motivated.

Something that doesn't get mentioned often is that StGs are not meant to last more than a few hundred thousand rounds. That's due to the fact that the Germans expected that by the time even the first rifles had seen that many rounds the war would be over and Germany would be able to make them en masse

Gonna buy one eventually, I just want people (and them) to sort through any lingering teething issues that will inevitably happen once they hit mass market. Probably a year or two down the road I'll grab one.

Genosse, the East Germans did try out an StG derivative in the 1957 trials for an MPi. They trialed the StG derivative rifle, the Vz58, and the AKM.

Interesting parts are the non reciprocating charging handle working in the gas tube, the boxy magwell much like HMG's gun, the rear sight block moved all the way back, the AK like recoil spring and guide.
