Dearest /k/, what is the single, definitive, all time best zombie apocalypse undead disposing melee weapon? please leave your weapon of choice and brief reasons why.

I would argue it is the humble home and garden variety hatchet. Reliable with a little extra reach, not too heavy, and common enough to find one easily, its also a good survival wilderness tool. Prove me wrong/right

Considering all it would take is a spatter of zombie blood in your eye or mouth to turn you, They're all pretty retarded.

That said, get a kaiser blade.
>>
>>33913174
Ideally something blunt that requires very little upkeep and will hold it's shape, and won't rust under normal conditions.

So the tried and true metal baseball bat, make sure it's a well made one.
>>
>>33913174
Obviously the Katana.

With glorious Nippon steel which has been folded over 1000 times, it will easily slice through zombies without getting stuck like that hatchet would.

like guns, one isn't perfect because everyone is different. your body and experience matter so much we can't agree on an ideal weapon until we agree on an ideal person. but i'd go with a ball peen hammer. meets most criteria listed so far and won't get stuck or cut you.
>>
>>33913290
For CQC you can easily jab with a baseball bat, or turn it sideways and bulldoze with it. You know, if you're a big guy.
>>
>>33913174
It would help to know what kind of zombie they are...

Still alive mindless killing machines?

Undead have to destroy brain to stop? How much brain or other vital organ/body structure?

Animate undead machinery so chopped off limbs still try to kill you?
>>
>>33914049
Classic definition, shambling corpses with limited motor functions and skulls that give in a little more than the living when force is applied. Killed when brain is destroyed and massive in numbers naturally
>>
>>33914094

Yea thanks forgot to ask about speed...

The fast zombies in 28 days bad news IMHO

Quick list Fireaxe (use spike end), Maul, Hammer , Maul, Pickaxe possibly.
Blunt weapons: Unless skulls are soft you would run into a Z you could not kill and that would be it.

Good brain smasher... can knock back a zombie if you don't "kill" it. Useful for camp chores, can help go thru doors. Readily available.
I would hope I only had to face one at a time. No melee weapon would save you if you had 3-4 attack at the same time. All the normal use of weapons utilizing injury to defend yourself would not work with zombies. Forget light piercing or most edged weapons.

A diverse group of weapons like this would prove very effective at handling multiple situations. My personal choice is the humble and classic fireaxe. Not just because I'm used to chopping wood, but because it can be used as a pry bar, a climbing aid, a lock breaker, and a breaching tool.
>>
>>33913174
Baseball bat. Its light, fairly strong, and if you're talented enough, you can use it as a projectile launcher by just hitting fungo with it. Plus you have the added bonus of looking cool as fuck carrying it.

Any sort of pole arm would be great, especially a spear, you have great reach, replaceable handle incase it breaks, for finer work such as carving wood etc you could remove the head.

This is if you can only choose one weapon/knife/axe to take with you

A war hammer with pick. The pick is designed to penetrate rigid material without getting stuck and the hammer face is small enough to cause brain damage as well. It's small and light enough to be carried and wielded for extended periods without overly tiring the user, or causing muscle strain. The method of swing is also pretty diverse and still lethal, so you can avoid developing muscle tears or RSI like you would from something like a crowbar or axe.

It also gets my pick because it can allow for a range of activities, since the pick can be used as a lever and a crude axe in the case of destroying wooden structures.

>>
>>33913174
You want range. Hatches aren't great because you're too close. Anything short is dumb.

All swords are dumb. You want to penetrate the brain, that's it. Sword is not great at getting to the brain.

You'd want a polearm. You, again, don't want anything that gets stuck.

You want a pike point. Basically a very thin spear. You want a wooden haft to save weight, but reinforced with metal for strength. You want the tip to slide in and out easily.

If you're feeling crazy, you'd want another pike point coming out at 90 degrees from the main point. One for stabbing straight on, one for hooking or stabbing on the horizontal swing.

Probably pretty awful about being a weapon. 36/42" steel Wrecking bars are both cheaper and can actually get some energy into the swing while giving you some reach.

Why don't people in zombie media ever use explosives on a large scale?
All you have to do is destroy the brain.
Most zombies are attracted to noise, lure them with a boom box that's loaded with c4 and take out a few hundred at at time!
>>
>>33925488

there's a weapon that works on these principles in Dying Light.
>>
>>33914826

>>33913174

Typical answer would be an axe, but since you specified just for meleeing zs I'd say a good length steel baton would be great. Roughly baseball bat weight, small striking area good for cracking skulls, but won't get stuck. Not too heavy, good in tight quarters, and collapsible for space conservation.

I'd go with a double-bladed axe with a handle of at least 20 inches. Somewhat long reach without being overly long/unwieldy, has dual blades for easy re-engaging, and since it's an axe you can cut trees and shit with it

I'm looking for a pretty lightweight camp axe that can double duty as a tactical axe. Needs to have a hammer end. Primary usage will be for chopping for firewood and nailing things in.

Zombies still need intact organs in order to function, so bleeding kills them.
A Gramlich Saufeder II would be good.
Mount that thing on a stick and puncture those fuckers while keeping your distance.
If you hit any of the major arteries/veins or a vital organ the zombie is KO immediatly.
It can still be used for normal cutting tasks too and is made of german 440C which doesn't rust that easily.
Making fire is not a concern. It is a myth that you need to chop down trees. Even in hard wet conditions, twigs and small branches will always be there and you can dry them by stuffing them under your clothes.

There are a few things you want out of an anti-zombie weapon.

>reach
This is most important. All zombie fiction shows infection as happening very easily, even from a single drop of bodily fluid. So your #1 concern with survivability is not even getting close.

>flexibility
You will be fighting indoors and outside. You will be on the run. You will also fight humans as well as zombies. You will most likely encounter wildlife. You will have to use your weapon as a tool.

>impact
The only surefire way to "kill" a zombie is to destroy the brain. You will want a weapon that can pass through the skull, and possible skull-covering, and destroy the brain in one go.

These things point to the pollaxe, or any similar polearm. They're not so long as to be useless indoors, and can be used (albeit clumsily) as a shorter weapon. They still provide the reach you want to keep away from zombies. Their anti-armour hammerhead makes for a potent skullcrusher.

Another good option would be a cavalry warhammer. You get a reduction in potential reach and killing power, but it's one-handed and well suited for indoor use.
>>
>>33928905
Also, I forgot to add: One thing any anti-zombie polearm needs is something to prevent the zombie from sliding up the pole and biting you. Like a boar spear.
