ITT 1911 love, hate, questions and hate of all things double action or polymer.

>Bought a used Norinco 1911 that had been shot very little.
>Put 500rnds through it and the locking lugs have noticeably changed.

This is early signs of peening that the model is known for. Not a gunsmith but this needs to be replaced immediately?

Depends. How much lug contact do you have to begin with?

Take a candle and soot up the lugs on the barrel, and then soot up the slide lugs. Reassemble the rifle, and cycle the action a few times. Disassemble. Look where the soot has rubbed away, that's how much lug contact you have.

>ok I did this, and have almost no contact, now what?

Option 1: Take it to a smith, see if he can re fit it
Option 2: Get files and sandpaper, try to refit it yourself (unlikely you have tools or skill for this)
Option 3: New barrel.

But see if you even have anything to worry about first.
>>
>>33910292
The are good guns, its weird that thats happening. I would buy a new barrel before taking it to a gunsmith.

also, you should inspect the the slide for marring.

Probably order a new barrel and take to the smith to be fit along with getting a new bushing. Good to know about the candle trick but this exceeds my knowledge.

>>33910523
Shouldn't I buy a barrel then take it to the smith to avoid damaging a new one?

>>33910570
Yes it's rubbing the finish off in areas, doesn't look normal so fuck this chicom barrel.
>>
>>33910292
Well there's you're problem. You bought a Chinese made gun and expected it to do good.
>>
>>33913191
why they are a preferred model for custom builds? Chinese steel strong. And also cheap as fuck
>>
>>33913727
>Chinese steel strong.
Surely your fucking joking right? I mean the peening on OPS barrel is literally a textbook example of shit metallurgy in a barrels lugs, and likely the whole barrel
>>
>>33913809
>>33913191
you know nothing, literally google this shit.
>>
Personally, I'm just curious why(correct me if I'm wrong) there hasn't been another successful single action slide trigger pistol since. For a gun so highly praised for its trigger, I don't follow why I haven't seen more of the design. Lawyers?

you literally google it, china and the chinese steel industry is fraught with scam artists and low quality control, they are worse than the fucking jews. Saying any steel producing country makes better sttel is retarded, since most countries abide by international standards and make quality steel within a set variation, some may be better, some might be lackadaisical about it, but china and chinese businessmen will do anything they can to rip you off no matter the steel product, if that can get away with giving you shit steel when you ordered high grade tool steel they will, every fucking time.

Fucking pic related man.
>>
>>33914140
Tool steel/5100 hardness. Extremely hard, harder than any SA or Colt. Jad one gunsmith tell me he wouldn't work on the slide/frame of the Norinco. Allegedly made from rail ties and spikes that were melted down. Also can confirm not a single internal part is MIM which is a plus to some.
>>
Has anyone done a .45 super conversion? Do you really need to change the FP retainer, or is that just something you maybe do if you have timing issues?
>>
>>33910292
Are the locking lugs on the slide also getting fucked up? it makes a big difference if its just one or both.
>>
>>33914469
Had the finish stripped on the edge from the lugs but doesn't appear to be willing the edges on the slide. Sadly this Norc is on ice until the barrel is replaced.
>>
>>33914860
Thats a metal problem with the barrel, buy a new barrel it'll run great, anything else would be equal wear on both sides of the lugs, since ideally they are made of similar metals, similar enough that that kind of ridiculous wear on the barrel would have corresponding wear on the slide.

Maybe get a new set of springs while your at it, 1911s and all browning designed pistols are ridiculously hard on springs.
>>
>>33914140
>>33913809
Retard

This is happening because Norinco 1911s use ridiculously hard steel in the slide and frame. It's what makes them so sought after.
>>
>>33915037
If that even had a speck of truth and was the cause of OPs woes, then no matter what barrel he gets, itll chew through them in the same time as OPs current barrel did every fucking time you idiot.

a little bit of a lip on mine, original barrel with god knows how many rounds through it

>>33915085
norinco 1911's were one of the first recommended for the 460 Rowland swap.
the harder you try and argue against what you don't know, the more you seem like a retard
>>
>>33914041
Norinco may have been good at one point, but I've seen articles about some gulf Arab state mercenary that mentioned how Chinese made AKs are some of the worst he has experienced. Their QC probably has gone downhill over the decades. Just like Remington.
>>
check the amount of engagement, should be ~0.055", also changing your link may be beneficial. Find the pdf Kuhnhausen 1911 books (2 of 'em) online and that may get you to be able to solve it if you care enough.
>>
>>33915294
Then tell me why OPs gun is experiencing catastrophic metal wear on the barrel, theres literally only one explanation that would cause that, nothing else would cause wear like that ONLY on the barrel, you fucking idiot.

You can quote reputational memes at me all you fucking want, but OPs barrel is getting shredded and the rest of the gun is fine.

Yeah swapped in a Ed Brown rebuild kit cause the recoil spring looked be original and the magazine release was like a weak piano key. Most parts went in without an issue, kept the recoil plug OEM for nostalgia reasons. Oddly the safety lock plunger from the EB wouldn't fit the Norinco plunger tube.
>>
Just replace the barrel with a Colt Gov't model barrel. Do it now before that flanging starts to damage your slide.

Will say for the reputation of the pistol frame/slide getting praise the barrel & grips are the chief complaint of Kia grade cost saving measures. Apparently later model imports had the barrel and link issue resolved meanwhile early models are a gamble if sweatshop worker 100002 or 100003 fit it. Nothing like communist government arms production exports am I rite? The 1911 and Chinese sks are g2g in my book most of the time.
>>
>>33915433
Norinco's barrels are soft- dead soft. Eventually the barrel flanges, and then the slide becomes damaged.

Not a bad gun either- I have one that runs like a top. But I plan on replacing the barrel soon.
>>
>>33915433
You are a dumbass
>>
>>33910292
The meme that norinco is actually good is hilarious bullshit made up by poor people.

>>33915085
unless he gets a stronger recoil spring.
