I'm looking to buy some military grade nightvision; specops stuff would be even better. Top dollar is $850, but I'd prefer to keep it in the $600 area. What's the best place to buy from?

I flew a drone once and got it stuck in a tree.

In any environment other than desert and low wind it's near impossible to fly a drone, especially for recon. Plus you're talking an extra 5~10lbs for a good quality drone that takes up a quarter of your backpack space. In theory it's a cool ghost recon future soldier idea but irl it's impossible unless you have two men dedicated to carrying and controlling it. Plus those things aren't quiet. Anyone without crippling tinnitus could hear it hovering above them.
>>
>>33910474
>>33910582
This is implying you're talking about a civilian sporting drone and not a full sized load bearing one.
>>
>>33910582
>any environment other than desert
They seem to work well in the cities.
>wind
I have never heard of that.
>5~10lbs for a good quality drone that takes up a quarter of your backpack space
It's a consideration in that case, but don't forget there are mounted and static situations that it would be also be useful for. Recon is very important.
>Plus those things aren't quiet
It's not like it gives away YOUR position though.

How easy are they to fly and what is the range? Price?
>>
>>33910732
I'm probably biased because I flew a chinkshit one at high altitudes the first time I ever took it out of the box. It is still in the tree. Also I guess I'm just an old fashioned guy in terms of recon and things like it.

Base price for a good one with a camera is around 500 dollars. Model is a DJI Phantom. Never owned one so can't vouch on reliability.

There's aton of options if you build, for recon you would want a smaller quad that wouldn't be as heavy.
The DJI phantom would make a garbage recon quad

Honestly, it is to shoulder your rifle further toward your sternum than you normally would, then let it settle against the inner side of the pack strap. It will still suck.
Packs mounted to PCs are a pain unless you have teammates to get your stuff for you, and even then you are giving up options. I like being able to drop my pack, and then swing it back up when it is time to move.

Does anyone have one of these S&S skeletonized mag holsters in their PC's front pocket?

I have a regular 3 compartment, 6 mag pouch I can use instead on my pc, but I don't know how the fuck I'm supposed to get this mag retention holster out of this pouch without it putting up a hell of a fight. I rammed some flyer in there so I can peel one side out at a time without the velcro resticking, so I think I can get it out, but getting it back in should I want to will be a bitch and a half.

Should I just leave it in?

Is there any good way to rapidly don your plate carrier? It takes a solid 15 seconds to slip it over the head and get the cummerbund secured. I got an overhead wooden runner only 8 feet above the side of my bed. Some kind of hanging assembly that would let me duck under and stand up into the carrier?

Yeah but if it is hanging and pried open I can just leave it in a semi tight position. So I don't have to remove the glasses or even fiddle with adjustment. It would be in case of a home invasion if I needed to put on the PC as quickly as possible before clearing the house.

Plus I was thinking of mounting a few gun racks right next to it so both my rifle and shotgun would be right there reading to pull off the wall. The idea is to go from naked and asleep to protected and armed in less then 10 seconds.

I want to start shopping for a new plate carrier, but god damn it is hard to find specs on them.
Few manufacturers post the dry weight.

Budget is $225 and less. Needs a drag strap for the rear. Fits 10x12 plates. Molle front, rear, and sides. Under 2lbs would be fantastic.
>>
>>33916366
Bump up your budget a little and get a jpc. I'm not sure what other good options you would have with lightweight and completely covered in molle.
>>
>>33916563
Looks damn awesome, but I wouldn't mind side plate capability. Also can that take molle pouches on the sides?
>>
>>33916646
>Looks damn awesome, but I wouldn't mind side plate capability.
The JPC can be equipped with side pouches for side plates.
>>
>>33916646
It can take pouches on the cummerbund. The horizontal straps are basically rows of molle.

Idk about side plates. I feel like I've seen people do it, but idk about stability with just those rows, might sag a little. But there are side plate pockets out there that will attach. That's the weight trade off showing up.

I got the long cut in my size (I'm 6'1") but they still seem baggy af. Didn't know if that's how they fit or if I should try and get the regular cut instead. I had to hike the knee-pads up a couple inches.

Over time it degrades the cartilage in your knees. High impact with weight is really not good for your spine or legs overall. You can't undo gravity.

You can certainly run with a ruck occasionally without suffering noticeable ill effects, but the results are cumulative. Thinking on a longer timeline, you need to understand that those impacts add up. Somebody who regularly ruck runs will eventually be saddled with long term, irreversible medical problems.

There isn't a ton of benefit in ruck running either. All of the muscles you are trying to condition by rucking can be more efficiently and effectively built up with weight training. Rucking should be about form and making sure the pack is set up right. Somebody good at rucking will be able to step out a low impact, sustainable power walk. That's a hell of a lot more useful than """training""" to run with a ruck.

I never really liked the Surefire lights that clip on the helmets. I've been issued a few, with both mounting styles, and they always felt really snaggy.

The IR strobe option is somewhat useless even in the military, since it is hard to see. The MS2000 or 9v Crickets are better in that role.

After having been issued those lights and a few other styles, I ended up just sticking with an old fashioned Petzel headlamp run around the helmet and given some extra support with 550 cord tie downs.
>>
So basic first aid. Do you apply pressure and bandage the wound on a limb first or tourniquet above the wound site?
>>
what patterns will work best with a ranger green pc?
>>
>>33923948
It depends how severe the injury is but generally you're almost always going to apply a dressing and pressure first. Tourniquets aren't something you fuck around with.

>>
>>33923948
If the wound is bleeding severely enough and consistently enough that you are in doubt, apply a TQ as immediate action. TQs do not cause permanent damage unless left in place for an extremely long time.

Remember that first aid is merely that- the FIRST aid applied, not the only aid. All any first aid does for any life threatening injury is buy time, it does not offer any long term solution.

Your priority after applying first aid is always to hand of an injured person to a medical professional. Priority is to stabilize and hand off as fast as possible, I can not stress that enough. That person can deal with properly removing a TQ.

Guidelines for applying a TQ have changed from 2 inches about wound site to top center of thigh for the leg or top center of bicep for the arm. Always make sure the TQ has stopped the bleeding. If it has not, leave the first one in place and apply a second TQ above it. Continue to check until bleedin has stopped.

While applying a TQ on somebody else, you can buy yourself a little bit of time by jamming your knee into the top of their leg or arm (assuming there is no wound right there) to slow bloodflow as you apply the TQ.

Do not take reading about medical aid online as a confidence you will be able to perform it live. Having credible hands on training with live instructor feedback is critical. Look for a decent tacticool medical course or other course if at all available.
>>
>>33924131
So order is
>powder
>gauze
>Israeli bandage
>tourniquet
and if bleeding persists, fuck it?
>>
>>33924215

my only training is a SABC class/CBT but i'd say gauze first.
>>
>>33924215
No, the ascending application of pressure dressings, and only finally using a TQ as a last resort is very old training. It was taught that way because people were afraid that TQs were sure to cause nerve damage. A ton of combat in Iraq proved that false a long time ago. TCCC guidelines are to immediately apply a TQ as the first option to a severe extremity wound.

>Powder
Throw it in the trash. All in the trash.

The tactical first aid for dummies boils down to this:
>Limb wound: Apply a TQ
>Trunk of body wound: Apply an occlusive seal. Factory vented seals work well if you are not trained and trained well on decompression needles- I STRONGLY advise against any advice which tells you to attempt using a decompression needle without hands on training. Even applying a fully occlusive seal and creating tension phenothorax is at least better than doing nothing and again it buys the all important time for real professionals to take over.
>Armpit/groin wound: Put on gloves, stuff in treated or untreated gauze into wound tightly, place a pressure dressing over top.
>Head/eye wound: Lightly drape in untreated gauze or bandage.

That's pretty much it for trauma for dummies. Learn how to deal with the more common, but less photo-op friendly injuries of heat, dehydration, cold, and foot problems and you're good to go.
>>
>>33924461
>Throw it in the trash. All in the trash.
I thought that stuff was the go to for stopping serious bleeds because of the clotting factor sealing off the artery instead of just trying to clamp it shut with a bandage. What changed?
>>
>>33923954
paisley
>>
>>33924495
it ain't clotting anything when the wind blows it away.
>>
>>33924495
The powder has several unfortunate drawbacks. >It can create little clots which break off and then circulate in the bloodstream, potentially causing an internal block
>It can create a large scab over the top of the wound while not actually stopping bleeding below. This can obscure the source of bleeding and make it harder to treat
>Powder goes everywhere- including your face

While I'm not the biggest fan of the QuikClot impregnated gauze, that stuff is at least fine for using to stuff a wound as it does not have the drawback of powder. The powder is trash though.

>clamp it shut with a bandage

You pack a wound full of gauze. A bandage or dressing on top is there to apply pressure and keep that gauze in place.

Where can I find night vision under $300? I've read up on the PNV-57E but those dried up. Literally everything else is fucking $1,000 or more, even just for scopes or monoculars. I don't need a fucking gen 3 with built in IR laser, I want fucking fisheye with only moonlight if it means I can have it for cheap or have a fun project.
Not sure where else to ask about this. Night vision forums are dead and autistic. /g/ has already proven to be worthless on the topic.
>>
>>33926797
Airsofters have found that you can use sport cams and remove the IR filter to get usable night vision goggles with surprisingly good resolution (but not much distance unless you have an IR illuminator, which shouldn't be a problem)

Holy shit anon, that's pretty much what I was looking for. I had no idea. Thanks a million. My questions though, is there latency in real use? Camera displays often don't display what the lens is seeing in real time, so that might make actual use difficult.
I didn't understand most of this because I don't speak cowardice (french), so I don't get how he built the mount. The captions for that part didn't make sense. I know that military-like helmets have pretty much universal mounting plates for cameras or real NVGs, but I don't get how he actually attached the camera arm to the helmet mount. I also don't know where he got the little rubber side protector on the end of the viewport.
I wonder, can this be done with all small cameras like that?

Nope. Beyond Clothing, a well known, repeat military and SF supplier, has been nothing but absolute hot garbage and has been proven so again and again. You're much better off buying emmerson or alwin, they are far supperior clothing manufacturers and are used by special ops forces around the world.

This is basically all my gear right now.

I think I'm set as far as footwear and my rifle go, but I'd like to step it up with loadbearing equipment.

What should I get first?

I'm thinking I order a Crye JPC Today, and work on getting some plates for it before I move forward.

After that would getting some Crye or equivalent quality uniforms be the right way to go, or is there something else I should get before?

I have a 4" emergency trauma dressing, 1"x6' celox gauze ribbon, compressed gauze, a roll of gauze and a mini sharpie in mine. If you try to put full size quickclot or something similar in there, it will take up most of the pouch. And there's no putting any kind of tourniquet in there besides a swatt or a rat. I mounted one cat on the outside.

Get a better flash hider and then your rifle will be set desu.

JPC might give you a nice start with the kangaroo mag pouch, but it'd really be nice to get some other mag pouches. Of course, I recommend Blue Force Gear Tenspeeds or some other retention-based open top pouch.

IFAK is nice but honestly everywhere you're going to go with your gear someone is likely to be with you and have one so that's not going to be your biggest ever problem, and it's always nice to have an extra pouch for a nalgene bottle, a radio, and a hydration bladder on your back.
>>
>>33930751
Why would you ever rely on someone else 'probably' having life saving medical equipment? Someone else will probably have water and ammo too, so why have that?
>>
>>33930830
Because I know Dan IRL and I know where he's most likely to use his gear and it's most definitely where everyone around him with have IFAKs and extra med supplies :^

>>

>>
>>33930922
Totally. Just add a set of chest seals and a tourniquet or two and you are set. I have an npa in mine, but nick will probably just pull the ol "stab you in the throat with a pen body", so I wouldn't worry about that.

These are good things to carry, but should be packed seperately from a trauma/life-saving kit. In a critical emergency, you don't want bundles of useless stuff in the way. Additionally, if you have a medical pouch and happen for find room for these non-essentials, it means you have room to strip them out and pack in more gauze or occlusive dressings.

As to non-critical medical items, I would also add tweezers, a razor blade, a large safety pin for use in popping foot blisters (after wiping it with an alcohol pad), some salt and sugar in small containers to use to dump into water for a dehydrated person to drink (it tastes awful but will help), and a space blanket to provide either warmth or expedient overhead shade.
>>
>>33931813
>>33931422
I already have a space blanket, medical scissors, and alcohol pads/basic meds in my pack.

I envision the IFAK on my PC as literally just lifesaving essentials like bandages, to and hemostatic agents.
>>
>>33931866
Sounds like you're good to go, wasn't nagging just inputting. Non-trauma stuff serves a purpose and if you can fit it in a pack, I highly suggest it.

As to medical sheers, they might look like they fall into LARP territory, but can be really useful. Plus if you're wearing tacticool gear it's too late to be self conscious. I'd stick them on whatever vest/belt/LBE the medical kit is on. Use a retractable lanyard if you truly worry about losing them. Another option would be to pick up a seatbeat cutter. Smaller, although a bit more of a bitch to use, it can go right through clothes and vest straps.

They are pretty nice, but if cost is a factor I suggest Hatch xtak kneepads. I have used both and while I definitely line my Arc'teryx pads, the Hatch ones are almost as good. The Xtaks have a hard shell, so be aware that you may wobble a bit if you are shooting from a hard surface.
>>

I'm ok with paying more if they actually work better to justify the extra cost.

I just don't want to pay more for a gucci name or some shit.

I bought some and used them a couple times. They move around just like any other kneepads which is annoying, but as far as protection they feel good an are durable. I think I got mine at moosejaw for $40 shipped with a coupon code or something.
