Post your favorite fictional weapons and armors.

Topic question: if you could equip your nation's army one fictional weapon as standard issue, what would you pick?

That actually doesn't look too bad. That stupid muzzle brake is stupid though.
>>
>>33905598
Not OP, but it's not a muzzle brake.
IIRC it's actually a "Flash" hider for the lasrifle, a brake would be useless because the gun has basically no recoil.

>doesn't have integrated sights
Except it does, the MA5 that you don't see in the game is much more varied than you think. The sights are another option instead of the bullet counter, and the whole idea of that design of MA5 is that the gun will be integrated into your HUD, which normal marines and soldiers had. If you chose not to do that, the counter could be removed and expose a pair of more conventional sights.
>>33913454
There are multiple types of the MA5 that a soldier can decide to use depending on the given situation. The MA5K is a vastly shorter MA5 variant that offers the compact package you're looking for, and what's the issue with having the grip in a normal position? Is'nt that exactly what you want?
>>33913482

>>33913526
The MA5D From H5:G actually has a lot going for it. The top cover on the ammo counter unit pops off for a rail which appears to be similar to an M1913 rail plus what appears to be attachment points for lasers near the front of the handguard.

And the fucking thing can actually hit something which can't be said about the craptastic MA5B from CE.

>>33913454
>>33913482
It's 500+ years in the future, I think they've had enough time to figure out the kinks in bullpup design.

>>
>>33913654
wheres the trigger?
>>
>>33913783
The MA5B in Halo CE was like that for several reasons, for starters, it was a short, high RPM gun that the game designers set that spread to so it would have better balancing. In-cannon, the B variant was generally regarded to be a supressive and CQC weapon which made great sense for what it was set in and meant to be used for (CQC fighting in tight ship corridors), which also explains the M6D being so short and using a higher power cartridge.

>>
>>33913861
It seems you generally shy away from sci-fi games. Early Ghost recon titles are a great example of "sci-fi" themes that end up being proven to be used, in one way or another. For example, in future soldier, they use a mini drone that could convert for ground use and is silent enough to be relatively unnoticeable. Though this is not fully realized, we are seriously thinking about using something just like this, and development is proving its probability. Plenty more examples than that, but you get it, you need to keep an open mind in sci-fi games, especially depending on time between now and then. Look at stuff, soak in the reasoning behind some of it, and you may be surprised. I certainly was with Ghost recon 2 when I played that as a kid

Yeah, Reach had some plotholes (Spartan III's while Spartan II's were just becoming a thing, huge armor variations when the MJOLNIR was still pretty standardized, etc.) but it had a lot of depth to it that you didn't get to see before, like seeing the way other worker planets operate, how soldiers from different parts of the galaxy were armed with earlier surplussed equipment, and whatnot

Reach was going on around the same time as combat evolved, they were just set at practically opposite ends of the galaxy. Now if we take into account the amount of time that had passed since the spartan II program began, more then 3 quarters of the spartan IIs were dead. The UNSC was like, well fuck looks like we need more space soldiers, but the last program was too expensive... Hey I know lets kidnap more kids but augment them a little less! then if I remember this right the guy got smacked in the back of the head and another dude said why use kids when we have a ready supply of jealous and headstrong troops ready to get adamantium fucking skeletons and jump headfirst into battle (ODSTs)? there we go brief history of the spartan III program.

Alright, so it's not taking up space, the treads would be the same length, the only difference would be that it's two instead of four, the four separate treads allows it for exceptionally good grip and flexibility over varied terrain. I see what you mean with the angling, but the armor is still a factor, keep in mind that turret isn't hollow like a normal tank, just about everything in there is as compact as can be and maximized with armor.

IIRC, advances in metallurgy in the post-war period developed a lighter alloy that offered around the same amount of protection as the formerly used material with no negative issues.

Compare WWII tank armor with modern tank armor. Now calculate how much WWII-era/RHA you'd have to attach to a chassis to match the protection of, say, a Challenger 2. Now calculate the weight.

Halo 1 takes place after an emergency jump from Reach after it was attacked. Reach literally leads in to the start of it.

Similarly ODST is about a group jumping in right at the beginning of the events of Halo 2 and goes back and forth between the Rookie's travels to find his squad after all of that ended and flashbacks to things that were happening during Halo 2.

The AR is designed for the average marine, so when he holds it, it is either braced against his breastplate, floating right in front of the arm, or fired off hand since his HUD give the aim instead of manually looking down sights

The III's were trained in several waves, and Noble 6 was basically pulled from the training pool to be an ONI wetwork specialist.

robogabo and sparth are an absolute fucking disgrace and are the whole reason the game's art direction went out the fucking window. I want Isaac Hannaford back ;__;

All of Noble is from Alpha or Beta company which were the first two S3 companies to be trained, Onyx was a completely new company. There's no reason why EVA and Recon wouldnt be developed yet, or at least prototypes, it makes sense they would have variants of mjolnir to test it out in different situations.

>>33915005
Not really a series, more like a short film movie collection

I have all the books made during the bungie era with the exception of the Forerunner trilogy, Broken Circle, and Hunters in The Dark. Hunters was fucking garbage and I'm basically done with Halo at this point. the H4 artbook is neat though and I have the fancy special edition with a signed print and shiny hard slip cover too.
I mean I like Sparth's stuff, I have two of his artbooks, but it just isn't Halo, you feel me? It's all too slick and futuristic, Halo's supposed to be gritty and angular. they even fucked up the Forerunner designs, and I'm not sure how that's possible.
>>
>>33913905
I hate this entire "adding rails to guns to make it futuristic" trope.
>>
>>33924942
Jorge was 41 at the time, the III-A series were in their 30s, and the III-Bs 20s.

The Mark V was actually pretty short-lived, only about a year, but the Mark IV had been in service for about 27 years, so plenty of lead time for specialized components to be developed.
>>
>>33924966
regardless, to deride other designs for being "weeb" when Bungie were the exact definition of weeb, to the point of making a videgame heavily inspired by giTS, and getting an actual anime studio to make a bunch of short films for Halo is dumb.

That shit stabbed through the armored hull of a Covenant Lich and stopped him after a pretty significant drop. And the dude with his armor on ways like half a ton.

That's a nice knife.

I loved how the standard rifle can punch through shields with a bit of reduced damage when you get close and that shoulder mortar was more fun than it should have been.

I never played Prejudice, how good was it?

But the real value was multilayer with the dynamic Combat missions and spawn anywhere burn in.

Jorge was a Spartan-II anyway. But, he was referencing the MK. V components, which I just wanted to explain it would make sense for them to develop multiple variants of it.

>Even though there like no servers anymore you can still dick around with bots
Right up my alley, I love bot servers.

Excellent, time to try and land on people again and start running around seeing how many I can get using only the pistol, knife and some good old fashion ramming in the name of the USE
>>
>>33925814
Part of the problem too is that John was a purist who believed in Halsey unquestioningly. So in the games and so on focusing on him he prefers to stick to the purest standard-issue stuff. Something Jorge got shit from her for modifying his gear.

Also, the heavy armor mechs can literally beat someone to death with the hoverbike

>Retribution Pattern Long-Las - The first Retribution Pattern Long-Las was reportedly a modified Imperial Guard issue Long-Las, constructed by a sniper belonging to a regiment of the Brontian Longknifes. Angry over the destruction of his regiment in bloody frontal assaults during the Fifth Battle of Koldon Gap, he deserted and proceeded to kill four of his former senior officers and five Commissars before his position was annihilated by a retaliatory mortar strike. In the subsequent centuries, similar weapons have been constructed by various artisans in the Calixis Sector and the Koronus Expanse. The Retribution is a stripped down Long-Las, sacrificing some of the weapon’s reliability and clip size. In exchange, the Retribution has a much shorter barrel (for easy concealment) and can be broken into half a dozen pieces that can easily be hidden within a specially designed pack. In addition, the weapon is rigged to fire in a non-visible light spectrum, decreasing penetration slightly but ensuring the Retribution’s discharge is unnoticeable. Breaking down or assembling the weapon takes roughly 30 seconds for a practised individual. In addition, there is almost no flash or sound from the las-burst, making it extremely difficult to detect when the Retribution is firing via sight or sound.

I wouldn't say "common". They're still rare antiques that there's little demand for because almost nobody has a Caster to use them in. It's just in comparison to the three high-end shells that can only be obtained directly from their creators on Tenrei.
>>
>>33912356
In the original script there was something about a micro black hole gun. The designer interpreted this to be sort of like a 203 on an assault rifle when he put the additional barrel and bolt on.
