It's fine. If you have $300 to spend you might as well get an actual 500 though for the better safety.

Does the 500 have a metal trigger guard? I believe the 88 has a non-metal one. I know they have different safety's but either one works for me. I'd get an ASI Stainless if they came back in stock.

are all the aftermarket parts and barrels and stuff exchangeable between the maverick 88 and the mossberg 500? also does the maverick88 take screw in chokes?

yes 88 will take 500 barrels, and will also take Mossberg chokes if the barrel is threaded for them. Only part that doesn't interchange is the pump slide since it's all one piece, also receiver isn't drilled/taped for scope/optic mounts.

what makes an 88 great is the price you buy it and leave it the fuck alone.
spending 200 bucks on a 200 dollar gun isnt an improvement worth doing.
the 7 shot mav88 does not take screw in chokes its a fixed cylinder bore barrel.
getting spare barrels that fit that magtube length is hard and those new barrels will cost almost as much as the 88 did to begin with.

Why do I want a screw-in choke? You make all great points.
