Hardly, they're just made for a specific purpose

I really want an antique smallsword but I've got car brakes to replace and a new pc to build

Swords are practical if you have the training.
>>
>>33902328
No cutlasses are fucking awesome, but were used on ships. On land, sabers and broadswords were typically used.

what the fuck is an opp and why do you have this image saved?

Not him, but my guess is "opponent"
And it's a great reminder that these things are not to be considered human or even "intelligent" in any way

The Spadroon

Why? Great hand-protection, sturdily built and great inside buildings or other cramped spaces where it was supposed to be used.
>>
>>33902328
Short for enclosed spaces, enough weight behind it to chop boarding lines, better hand protection and parrying than a hatchet

im pretty sure it's slang for
opposition
it's very odd someone would save a picture of a males on male group rape, and just casually throw it around. he was probably jerking off to it.

>>33911463
that isnt a gladius, if you compare it to a gladius you can see many differences, first of all the gladius' tip is much more acute as to fit between chain armour and for piercing capability on little to no armour, also the gladius has a much more pronounced leaf shape. As for the hilt, the pommel on a gladius would usually be a seperate piece and is much more spherical, and the guard on the gladius is much smaller because of it being used in formation and in small roman streets

This place is taken by the Spadroon.

nope, a so called fascine knife a tool/weapon of the artillery to cut reeds and twigs for fascines.
>>
>>33911999

1917 cutlass.
>>
>>33912065
What is my best choice for that? Try to find an American 1917, buy a dutch one that the 1917 is based on, or buy a cold steel one?
>>
>>33912093
the dutch ones are great, they were actually manufactured and designed for jungle combat in the east indies
>>
>>33909228
They'll work but other swords would work better.

A spontoon is the best individual melee combat arm. You should keep a dagger in case you need one, but no weapon can match the flexibility, reach and handiness of a spontoon. All the advantages of pike, optimized for individual combat instead of formations.

>>33903638
Oh wow that sold quickly when I made this post that sword was up for sale on Matt Easton's website

I thought about buying it but looks like I was too slow

I can afford those if I ignore rent.

Bills cost alot, anon.
>>
>>33912093
Get a Dutch one, they are best balanced. The American and Cold Steel copies are more like big knives/really thick machetes. Cool for chopping shit, not quite as cool for being a good cutlass.
>>

Less than 350 if those are too expensive. A Chinese dao made in China would probably suit him well at that price point.
>>
>>33912526
Main problem is they work best with two hands, swords were mainly used as a second to a pistol back then.

Honestly not surprised. It's a """reality""" show after all.

Got links with the smiths talking about their experience on the show?

The general complaints I've read are that you just aren't given enough time. Also it's too fucking hot

A couple hours to go from a block of mystery steel to a functional knife, handle and everything, means everything ends up being very rough product and you don't have a lot of time to fix any mistakes that may come up. Crack in your blade? You SHOULD anneal it, forge weld it shut and heat treat again, assuming you're at a stage where you can do that and don't have to start over. But you can't do that here
>>
>>33912526
A spontoon was specifically an early modern polearm used as a directing tool more than as a weapon. Any polearm will do the same or better in combat.
>>
>>33917216
Well yeah, but production costs would be outrageous if it took longer than a day to film just the early eliminations, I'm sure with more time these smiths would come out with works of art every time but then judging would be even more subjective and it would trivialize all the mistakes that create suspension.
They do need to up the AC in that place though, watching overweight middle aged men start dropping because they're in a relatively small room with 4 forges going isn't entertaining
>>
>>33920001
Even if the surrounding air was sub zero somehow the forges radiative heat would burn then too. Just having then spaced in separate pavilions would make more sense.
