I agree dude, it's unnesecerry and "unrealistic" and sounds stupid but hyperrealism is the term and it's now what people expect to hear. It's become the norm and it's going to take a lot of high budget movies to break these norms. The same with the suppressor sound, that's what people think they sound like so that's how they get portrayed.

this sound obviously is "alright seriously, who told the cops we have recreational nuclear bombs?" loud, but the microphone can't record that convincingly, and your speaker can't reproduce it efficiently. so you just get this obviously artificial noise.

with your suppressed gun the microphone can't capture the full noise since the noise hits a volume ceiling, so it just caps it. this is interestingly where the stereotypical noise of a suppressed gun came from.

that's literally what an old 1911 that's been shot a lot sounds like. the only error is the rattle which was from the soundtrack/dramatic effect anyway and the safety being depressed sound even though the gun isn't cocked (can't put on safety w/o hammer being cocked on a real one).
