Best defense against machetes?

Sup /k/

Lately in my city there has been an outbreak of machete-wielding thugs robbing and attacking people, due to how hard methamphetamine is hitting the city. Since last Monday, there have been 10 reported cases of people either being threatened or attacked with machetes. So I'm wondering, what is the best defense against these types of slashing weapons? It's bullshit that one can't even walk to the convenience store without the threat of being attacked with a machete. What type of homemade shield would work? Or any YouTube channels you guys might refer me to? Thanks

I'm an American, but I don't live in the States. I'm in Mexico, and while having a gun for self-defense is legal, using it is usually considered "excessive force" and you usually end up getting sued and jailed for defending yourself or your property. Any other suggestions other than guns? More melee type defense, is what I'm looking for.
>>
>>33899533
Oh, well in THAT case still a gun.
>>
>>33899533

And the biggest caliber bullets that are allowed for self-defense are .22, anything else is military grade and illegal, can land you 10 years and 1 day in a federal prison.

I think a shield could work but I don't know what commonly accessible items can be used as an effective shield, I used to watch cold steel promotional videos for giggles and apparently some of the stuff can penetrate car hoods
>>
What type of wood would have good enough density to make a shield out of? I'm thinking of gearing up much like Based Stickman whenever I have to walk to the convenience store. And probably gearing up with smileys or some shit. I'm just fed up, motherfuckers have also stolen shit from my property for the past couple of months, usually ligh bulbs or copper wiring so they can continue to finance their meth addictions >:(
>>
>>33899573
use a gun and run away after shooting them.
>>
Sorry guys, I'm just desperate to feel safe out here. It's ridiculous the amount of crime that happens here, and I just want to be safe. What is the strongest mace available for consumers? Anything that I could get at a surplus store, as I'm going back to Arizona this weekend.

Biggest habdgun caliber allowed in Mexico is .38 which is why .38 Super 1911s and the original .380 Glocks (models 25 and 28) are extremely popular down there. .357 SIG might be ok too but unsure of that one. Personally Id say go with the local flavor and get a Colt 1911 in .38 super, if not the Glock 25 (Glock 19 sized .380 and holds 15+1) would be my choices.

Honestly the best defense you can learn is avoidance. Now obviously everyone who reads this is think "captain obvious," but I'm not referring to moving to a new area.
My statement is based on the Idea "if they can't touch you, they can't hurt you." going into melee is dangerous. especially against a machete. attempting to block such an attack is also an extremely bad idea. any time you focus on blocking should instead be focused on moving off of the line of attack. done properly you are either creating more distance between you and the threat (good) or moving to a position that allows you to effectively neutralize said threat (great for aggressive types). standing there and blocking is only going to give them reason to attack a second time.

in a nutshell... learn to dodge first.
>>
>>33899279
riveted chainmail.

I'm serious, the main threat of a machete is its concealability and the resulting quick potency of sustaining injury from a successful surprise attack. Riveted chainmail and heightened awareness reduces that risk to almost zero. Also, wearing it everyday trains your weak body, reducing the risk of an attack even further.

Attackers are easily intimidated, so the best thing to do is dress loudly in expensive clothing, strut around arrogantly, and flash a lot of jewelry and cash. This works best in the worst neighborhoods, as the criminals will think "OMG he obviously is well-connected and powerful if he is acting like that here, I will attack someone less threatening."

PIc related is how you should be.

95% of murders go unsolved in Mexico. If you shoot someone, leave them there. The police will think some drug cartels killed him and will immediately look the other way. Or just bury his body, Mexico has amazing forests and deserts, let the vultures eat him.

.380 Glocks are legal in Mexico? Nice, I thought it was only a handful of pistols. Also, if you watch a my documentary or news coverage of Mexico's only gun shop, they showcase many guns on the walls. I tried researching it, but couldn't find much. But I've read some people say that you could even LEGALLY buy assault rifles in Mexico once you have the paperwork and money. Do you know if that's true?

Plywood will do the trick just fine. Slit a garden hose and attach that over the edges for a little more protection, or use leather/steel if you really want it to last.

When blocking strikes with a shield you generally catch them on the edges so as not to obstruct your vision too much, reserve use the broad face to deflect projectiles such as thrown stones and arrows.

College education at the Bachelor level is way cheaper out here, and my college is a sister college to the University of Arizona. Any bachelor's degree I get out here (I am studying mechatronics) will work just fine for any job in the States, especially since I am an American citizen. It's kind of the same trade off, at the end of the day. I either get killed by machete mexicans, or i get killed with college debt.

Once I get my degree I plan on moving back, and getting a master's through a scholarship, but I'm taking it one day at a time

The only people that aren't caught are the people that have exhorberant amounts of money to not get caught. Bribes aren't cheap. Seriously, it's a tooootally different context to what you guys are accustomed to, and when I first moved out here I suffered from culture shock because I just couldn't understand how the cops are just out to fuck over the average citizen.

Hell, just TODAY, the county sheriff put out a statement that in which he said "Machetes are not an illegal weapon, they are a working tool. Anybody caught with a machete and who is PROVEN beyond reasonable doubt to use it for illegal purposes shall be released after 36 hours"
