>9mm is the best because +P makes it competitive with modern calibers, comparable to a 40 S&W
>10mm is typically too uncontrollable to defend against a target smaller than a bear so it's usually underloaded to 40 S&W levels
>But don't use 40 S&W
>It's not an ideal caliber

Short & Weak
real men use .460 Rowland or .454 Casull
>>33890392
>less capacity than 9mm
>less energy than 10mm hunting loads
>less bullet weight than .45 ACP
Literally the least ideal caliber
my main complaint about .40 is the people that use it.

>.45 ACP
>So slow it deflects going through windshields

>Can't hit a torso at 7 yards firing rapid.
>10mm has too much recoil guide!

When OP is a verified faggot.
>>33890428
when the fuck in any defensive situation do you plan on shooting through a window?
>>33890436
I don't know, defending against carjacking, drive bys, shooting through restaurant window glass...
>>33890436
When you're an LEO, every situation is a defensive situation because everything is always coming right at you
>>33890436
Since when do you plan out defensive scenarios?
>>33890436
>>33890467
Legitimately curious. How bad is .45 deflection? There a report/video on this?
>>33890478
>There a report/video on this?
The Glass Deflection Test is literally part of the FBI's requirements.

45 can't penetrate for shit through ANY material compared to any other popular handgun round. It can just barely chip concrete.
subsonic and fat

While not the best test, .45 seems to perform just fine here. Same with .40. 9mm seems to suffer, however.

Modern .45 does ok. If you are so concerned about penetration just load +P.
All rounds deflect through auto glass to some degree. It's a commonly known phenomena. Most handgun rounds wont penetrate through a cinderblock completely without chewing through it using multiple rounds.
>at least .45 cracks or punches through bone instead of deflecting off like some calibers are notorious for
>>33890392
>notably less energy and wound volume than .45
>less capacity than 9mm
If you're worried about a roving pack of basketball brethren carry 9mm. if you want "stopping power" and think 10rnds are enough for an SD situation then carry .45
>>33890511
>leaves big gaping hole in human flesh so they bleed out faster and lose consciousness even if you miss vitals
>anon is worried about it's anti-material effectiveness and ability to chip concrete
Pro tip: If you have to penetrate something solid and heavy to kill someone, it probably isn't a self defensive situation and you are going to jail
>kevlar
Fucked regardless of caliber if it's a mass shooter with body armor. Your best bet is a lucky headshot or shooting them in the legs with a large caliber round

>40 SW masterrace
Except it's vastly inferior to .357 sig.
The only thing .40 has going for it is being 10 cents a round cheaper than .357 sig.
>>33890548
Isn't the integrity of the class compromised after the first shot?
>>33890415
They make .40 field ammo, too, dummy.
>>33891815
>.357 sig
If you must insist on carrying a meme round, 10mm is a far better choice.
>>33890392
Finally a thread that appreciates modern engineering.
obsolete 9mm luger babbys and 10mm micropenis's need not apply.
>>33891815
>10 cents a round cheaper.
Thats huge.
>>33894649
.357 is objectively less meme because it's the anti-STOPPAN POWAH cartridge. More powder? For a smaller bullet? Fudds are killing themselves over it.
I usually avoid these threads because everyone shits on any type of round they don't carry, but are there any legitimate cons to .38 special?
>>33894701
Hard to find and expensive.
They will never catch on, thus production will never scale up and prices will never drop.
Those are the cons.
