God, I wish I had saved the pictures of this M16 from Gun Broker that was post around 2006 or 2007.

It was an authentic, select fire M16. Not Vietnam era, manufactured at some point during the 80's.

It was listed at somewhere north of 10g's, and the guy selling it had all of these absolutely insane, prototype attachments. He had a NV scope that was literally the size of the fucking shroud on it, and required an external battery running to a pack to a run. This giant laser. A fuck huge suppressor. All sorts of shit that was truly top of the line for its era, and very probably was one-off.

I would never have paid that much for that rifle, but to simply it was amazing. It belong in a museum.
>>
I really want one of these for my 1911.

Sorta? It's the regular full sized Uzi with a wooden stock and extended barrel. Kinda shit desu. Completely lacks the look of an Uzi. Never fired the semi-auto, but I really didn't care for the feel of the full auto trigger. I'd still take one, though, just to waste ammo.

Back in the 1980's I bought a brand new SKK (basically a Type 84 semi-auto with all the military fittings) for about $250 Australian- that included 6 magazines and a couple of cans of ammo
Real boon for us living in the country because it was cheap enough to bash around on a motorbike or in the back of a 4wd to kill off pests

The hook on that cheek piece has one very specific reason and that is to clear the charging handle. When mounted it allows you an extra inch or two of real estate for your cheek and still enables you to properly use the charging handle. On my rifle the back of the CH just barely grazes the inside of the hook when you cock the rifle.

Nothing wrong with the originals, case blow outs are an issue that only came about after the reintroduction and Colt today doesn't know when to hold back a little on throating the barrels.

>What part of Australia were you in then?
Up in the north west of NSW, had a lot of feral pigs and foxes running around that needed culling, to some extent they still need extensive culling. So the SKS and other varieties of 7.62 got a lot of use out that way.

Kind of a funny story behind it at the time.
China owed Australia huge amounts of cash at the time for iron ore, coal and food, they didn't have all the cash... so, to cover the rest they sent over something like 100,000-200,000 SKS's of various flavours, no one really knows the exact amount. But lets just say, there was fucking 1000's of the damn things, tonnes of ammo and damn near everything else you could think of. Some of them brand new like my SKK, all the way back to I think they where the Type 56's or a civilian variant which where old and could often be fairly shit.
Actually, most of them where fairly shit really, but once in a while you'd get an ok one which could hold down a decent MOA out to about 100-150m

Think everyone wanted to bayonet something with theirs. I never did though :)
Mind you, they where probably only good for one, maybe two decent stabbings in anger- after that they'd generally be too buggered to do much. Most people tended to take them off anyway as the springs where kinda nasty and it'd randomly flop off
>>
>>33897790
Those sound like they were in extremely shitty state, were they old milsurp or what?

The commercial Chink SKS rifles generally seem to be fine.
>>
>>33898006
Some where brand new, others where surplus
A typical problem used to be that they'd mis-match they bayonet with the rifle, some of the newer models used to have a cut on locking notch which was about 100degree angle and the older ones where a 90deg right angle. The old spring in them was usually the main culprit, it'd just get tired after a while, you'd be jogging along and it would flop out. So most people would just chuck em away as it was extra weight and one less thing to worry about.

Even when I was in Afghan years later, still see most of them over there seemed to have the same idea and they'd either thrown them away, fell off or something

I think it's one of those old electronic button code locks people experimented with in the 80's.

Sig Sauer made an experimental variant of their P226 once, which was something like that, though it was integrated into the gun, and it had a motorized bar which would relieve if the correct code was entered, and engage (blocking the trigger) if the wrong code was entered, and you couldn't enter again without waiting an hour or putting in a master code, who the police armorer would know (cops being the intended market for this prospective system).

Needless to say, this was not an idea that Sig Sauer put to market, and I'm thinking that lock there is something vaguely similar. It was the Smartgun meme of the 80's.

Yeah, they wanted to use 9mm subguns for nuclear powerplant defense (in case of terrorist attacks for instance), and they thought that the weapon being a lot like an M16 would make it easier for people who were in the military to learn to handle it (maybe they had some sort of recruitment program or policy where this made a bit more sense), same battery of arms and all.

Regardless, it's a pretty good subgun, buffertube makes for easy recoil and rate of fire in a light gun (compared to regular blowback), the magazines are basically patterned after the Uzi's so that's good (they're almost interchangeable), and overall it's much nicer feeling to shoot and handle. Then there's the fact that they use a bunch of of existing AR15 parts so that saves a bunch on tooling costs given that Colt didn't have to make an entirely new upper and lower, thus it's cheaper to produce and then buy.

Colt still makes guns on this pattern actually (at least as semi-auto carbines with 16" barrels), there's arguably some better takes on the concept these days, but if you like stumble upon an old one in a dead relative's attic or inherit one or something, they're very nice. Would probably be barrels of fun with a bump-stock (and maybe an SBR stamp).

You still see used ones crop up now and then.
Would be good for a Robocop collection.

Otherwise there's other bullpup kits for Mossberg 500s being made today (no squared carry-handle though).

Wish they gave the Department of Energy in Stranger Things these instead of MP5Ks. Would've made more sense and have fitted the 1980s time period the show has

You fell for the industry buzzword meme. Also, I challenge you to find a relevant modern firearm product actually constructed with a polymer instead of simply advertised as being polymer when it's actually plastic.
