I don't see it being over or underrated, or hardly mentioned.
It's just another shotgun. It's neat looking and whatever, but it's just a regular-ass shotgun.

OP things that you're supposed to have the stock there as a sight.
Op is a faggot
>>
Video games are the only reason people still give a shit about them, even guys in the Army usually hated them. I had a surplus one and the pump or auto gimmick didn't always work right. The original ghost rings were garbage and the stock was awful. I just took the stupid hook off until I got rid of it.
It is not popular on /k/ mostly because the ones that know this avoided it or couldn't afford one. The people that like them usually think both barrels fire if you pull the second trigger.
>>
>>33878605
It's only really popular because of video games. Newer shotguns are better in every way.
>>
>>33878605
It's underrated, actually. Guys like this >>33878704 >>33878873 who have probably never used a spas hate it because of its overprevalence, and guys like this>>33878827 hate it because they good likely misused and unmaintained copies. The actual gun functions extremely well, but it is finicky, and the old spring and stock buffers always go bad and are rarely replaced. Naturally a gun with faulty parts does not work.

Guaranteeing that in a tactical situation you snag your weapon on EVERY SINGLE FUCKING ANYTHING EVER.

But also for when you can't actually shoulder it but want something to brace it against so you hook it over your bicep and proceed to snag every fucking thing ever.

The hook pivots left or right and allows for one-handed shooting from behind barricades to avoid exposure. You would push the hook in against spring pressure and rotate it either way. It indexed into any of three positions and locked there. The hook actually sits under your forearm while shooting to offer some support. The manual had a suggestion that you thrust the gun forward as you fire. This prevents 'limp wristing' the gun and causing a malfunction. When it was folded, the hook could also be used as a carry handle.
>>
>>33880813
>14.25" LOP
>"the hook sits under your forearm"
As someone who owned one for nearly 8 years, you're full of shit. Even with your arm fully extended it hits a third or more up your bicep, depending on how much of a manlet you are.

They were also woefully unreliable even factory-new, heavy as all fuck, and bulkier than shit.

Also that hook snagged on everything regardless of which position you had it in.
>>
>>33880604
>a faggot who has never owned one tries to convince everyone that the SPAS actually wasn't a finicky mess with a shitty safety and O-rings that had to be monitored, and accuses anyone of saying otherwise of not ever having owned one...while also never having owned one

Yes. Overly heavy, overly complicated, and not terribly reliable. The silver screen was pretty much the only thing that saved the SPAS 12 for obscurity.

Pick one. It's literally the least reliable of the 5 currently-produced mag fed shotguns.
>>
>>33881231
Well, it's a start.

Nowadays everybody buy Vepr 12 but Saiga 12 is the first commercially-available and sorta good mag shotguns.

Akdal beat it to market by over a decade with the M1919, which despite being eye-gougingly hideous is quite reliable, and also cheaper.

Catamount Fury is half the price and more reliable.

Vepr's got the most reliable and best-fit/finished of the lot for only a bit more money than the Saiga.

The recoil is manageable.
Utility is another question.
>>
>>33881308
When was the M1919 out in the market?

Saiga was available since late 90s-early 00s.

>Catamount Fury is half the price and more reliable.
Heck no.
>>
>>33881356
The M1919 was introduced to the US market in 2007 and first produced in 1988.

The Saiga 12 was not introduced into the US market until 2005 despite being produced in small amounts since 1997 and widespread production since 2003.
>>
>>33881401
So Saiga still beats M1919 in 2 years.
>>
>>33881356

Proof?
>Loses by 9 actually, just in case you genuinely don't know you're bad at math.
I said commercially available...
>>
>>33881475
The M1919 has been commercially available in Europe and the Middle East since 1988. The Saiga 12 hasn't been commercially available ANYWHERE prior to 1998 and didn't even exist until 1997, since the first few hundred made were done under contract with the Russian government.

Yes, I know most people only care about the US market.

>>33881079
The fact that you think a 12 gauge has heavy recoil, especially in such a heavy gun, reveals you as nogunz.
>>
>>33878605
The SPAS 12 is a good gun for police. The ability to cycle from semi-auto to pump is pretty unique but has a purpose: It allows the user to change between live ammo and lower 'colder' loads like less than lethal ammunition, bean bags, etc. Rounds that have much lower recoil impulse and would be unable to cycle a semi-auto action. So you have a shotgun that can do both and aside from cost, I don't see why PDs wouldn't have all adopted this a long time ago.

For your average joe, useless other than to say you have it
>>

> do you find the SPAS12 overrated?

No, not at all.
>>
>>33880847
I own one and have had literally zero issues with it whatsoever. 99% of the malfunctions that people have with it are caused by them not using the right ammo and not maintaining it properly. A lot of shit has to be replaced in it before you can take it out shooting. Also I don't know what you are talking about with the hook as with mine it sits under my forearm, if it's sitting under your bicep you must have midget arms.
>>
>>33878605
I've never even seen one outside of video games and movies. I have no desire to see one. So yes, sounds overrated as fuck.
>>
>>33878605
I think it's perfectly rated by gunfags.

Most folks know it's got inherent issues. Most folks know it delivers well, aside from those issues. It's iconic from our childhoods of movies and vidya.
Are there far superior options if you had to choose one shotgun ever? Absolutely lol.
But if you like the thing you'll never get it out of your head until you own it.

Now, the Spas-15 on the other hand is one to talk about being severely underrated... I just got my hands on one of them ugly bitches and did me a spas vs saiga test and ooooweee damn did it do well.

>>
>>33878605
it's an automatic shotgun with absolutely horrible handling and reliability. the way you switch between auto and manual is horrifyingly easy to fuck up and counter intuitive to the point of insanity.

>>
>>33878605
I wanted one so bad but apparently if you right click it fires two bullets instead of one, and the NFA classifies that as a machine gun since there is more than one bullet coming out per trigger pull :'c
>>
>>33885597
A pump shotgun should literally run any shell you feed it.
>>
>>33885597
>99% of the malfunctions that people have with it are caused by them not using the right ammo
>A lot of shit has to be replaced in it before you can take it out shooting
Sounds like a real winner of a shotgun....
>>
>>33889909
prepare for your good boys to get even gooder.
>>
>>33894232
It does run just about any shell in pump action, the problem is that people try and used low-powered shells in it on semi-auto and expect it to cycle, which it won't because it needs something like buckshot to cycle the action on semi-auto, that's why there's a pump action mode, to accommodate lower-powered shells...
>>
>>33894433
People don't understand that you're not supposed to use low powered ammo in a semi-auto shotgun, which is why people complain about it short-stroking. The SPAS needs buckshot to fire in semi-auto, but has the pump action mode to cycle lighter loads, that's why it's there.

As for the parts that need to be replaced, it's a 30 year old gun, and the rubber parts deteriorate after a while. If you're willing to put in the minimal time and effort that it takes to replace those few parts, it works great.
>>
>>33880604
