Gunships like the b25g or a26 would shitstomp a tiger 2

The latter was fitted with up to 20 m2 brownings, each firing 850 rpm, as well as 16 5inch rockets (literally 127mm naval he shells fitted with rocket motors) and 4000lbs of bombs or just 12000lbs if you want to forgo the rockets

Also 4 of the nose machine guns can be replaced with a 37mm shortbarreled fast firing cannon and a 75mm high velocity cannon.

>implying tank formations wouldn't have SPAA with them
>implying those m2 brownings, 75mm sherman cannons, or 37mms would do anything at all to a tiger ii
>>
>>33876672
from ground level the 37 and 75 would do nothing. but from above they would be very effective. the tiger II had, what, 40mm of roof amour?
>>
>>33876672
A a couple of those rockets hitting will shatter the armor, the tiger 2s had a problem with that in regards to he

And a several thousand rounds of 50 cal will fuck up all sorts of shit, treads, the rear and rear side armor, certain portions of the top armor

Those unprotected treads are fucked

It's gonna get mobility killed for sure which in 1944 Germany basically means it's done for

Also that 75mm will totally penetrate a tiger 2 from any aoa except frontal
>>
>>33876672
Ww2 spags were rather shit, and surprisingly scarce.

Also a26s btfo even the b17s when it comes to meme levels of durability

>>
>>33876727
Yeah, the late model a26s had rather good visibillity profile and the finned 5 inch rockets were used in at roles

You are strafing these tanks pretty closely

the .50s are useless from all angles since they penetrate only about 25mm at point blank (inb4 some faggot linking SLAP or Mk211 ) same goes for the 37 except when the plane does a suicide dive from a 90° anlge onto the top armor which is rather unlikely
tl dr B25 and A26 are cool af but without bombs and rockets they cant harm tanks and the bombs and rockets have a historical hitratio of like 5%
>>
>>33876712
that 75mm has only 90mm penetrationa t point blank you retard its barely enough to penetrate the side of the Tiger II from point blank which wont happen with a plane strafing run

Wikipedia says it could have been a field modified tank for mine clearing, which makes sense. My theory is it's a field modified tank with a crane to yank out engines for repair.

>>33880861
They often did send them out to recover while under fire.

Guy sajer talks about it in his book, the forgotten soldier.

There was only one of those Tiger Recovery vehicles found.

They're not even mentioned elsewhere, just one outside of a train yard.

it was probably a feild modification then, i know bergpanther was known and used but it seems like that bergtiger was made out of tiger that couldn't get replacment parts for gun.
Also i know imagine germans making new vehicles

>During August 1944, two Tiger Ausf B tanks were captured by the Soviets near Sandomierz, and were soon moved to the testing grounds at Kubinka. During the transfer, the two tanks suffered from various mechanical breakdowns; the cooling system was insufficient for the excessively hot weather, where the engine tended to overheat and cause a consequential failure of the gearbox. The right suspension of one of the tanks had to be completely replaced, and its full functionality could not be re-established. The tank broke down again every 10–15 km.

They needed 3 of the standard half-track recovery vehicles to recover a tiger. So they decided the best thing to do was to make a recovery vehicle based on the tiger to recover another tiger.

CAS was one of the least effective ways to knock out tanks. WW2-era weapons lacked either power (.50 BMG, 20mm Hispanios) or accuracy (unguided rockets, bombs). Tests by the British indicated that even in ideal conditions, rockets had a hit rate of only about 5%, and statistically CAS overreported tank kills by about 10x. Even "good" CAS aircraft like IL-2s and Hs-129s overreported massively when kill claims are referenced against loss rates of given ground units.

In hindsight we know CAS was far more effective at cutting down supply lines- trucks or trains with spare parts, ammunition, and fuel.

http://ftr.wot-news.com/2014/04/04/ground-attack-aircraft-myth-of-the-tank-busters/

A-26s saw very little service in WW2, and B-25G/H saw most of their service in the Pacific, so I would be surprised if they had any actual confirmed tank kills in a CAS role at all.

don't fall for the "muh 10 shermans for 1 tiger" meme.

Battle of Arracourt saw Panthers fighting Shermans, relatively even numbers, large numbers on both sides, no air support because of bad weather, and the Shermans had a positive KDR against the Panthers and won the battle.
