What we're arguing about is that the AK47 name is applied to AKM guns, and while it is pretty cringy to argue about that with people that don't know a damned thing about guns, you have to keep in mind that every hobby, including shooting, has certain colloquialisms that don't exactly fit the proper definition. For instance, people often use "30 caliber" to describe a whole array of .30 caliber rounds, be it 30 carbine, 30-30, 308, 30-06, and even 7.62x54r and 7.62x39. Christ man, having to differentiate 30 calibers in the deep south can be tough when "30 caliber Russian" can be used to describe 2 cartridges, and then there are 30 caliber pistol rounds like 7.62 tokarev, 30 Luger, 30 Mauser, etc

Sometimes you just have to use the terms that other people use to convey what you mean to them

I work in a big gun store, and I'd estimate that probably 90% don't even know that AK74s are a thing, let alone AKMs.

We get massive discounts on ammo with fucked up boxes. There's been about a dozen boxes of 5.45 sitting at 2 bucks each and no one is buying them becuase they don't know what fucking gun shoots them.
