I'm envisioning a handguard similar to the factory Vepr one, blued steel continuous-taper barrel in either blued or stainless receiver (or one painted to look like blued or stainless, cuz aluminum) with permanently installed low profile iron sights.

Top of receiver is either slick+rounded and drilled and tapped for 2-piece scope bases, or has a lower profile milled Weaver rail instead of full picatinny.,

A problem with the Vepr style handguard is that the AR gas tube is hella unaesthetic, maybe a simple sheet metal cover as a part of the handguard could remedy that problem though.

And look fairly cool to boot. Imagine a long AR-15 with a short, beefy handguard through which a parkerized barrel runs and a similarly parked gas tube cover returns through mounted with a very small gap between it and the barrel from the gas block, which has a low profile hooded post. Put a ring aperture at the very rear of the receiver and a side-charging handle.
