I think I just stumbled upon a honey pot.

Basically:
>a lady and I are talking
>she's airing grievances about a local elected official of a large city
>she informs me they are going to gather armed outside his houe
>she enlists me to join them
>she asks for my name and phone number
>I autistically mumble that I will be out of town
>I walk away very quickly

Did I stumble upon an ATF/FBI honeypot?

Pic unrelated

>an unsubtle sting operation.

See pic related.

>>33859493
don't forget the time they used the mentally retarded guy to advertise their pawn shop/sting operation that never caught no one and lost a full auto m4 during the operation.
>>
>>33859654
Story on that last part?
>>
>>33860320
ATF being ATF

ATF opens fake pawn shop to catch straw sellers and gun thieves
Hire mentally retarded ex con (through his PO no less)
Give retard booze and weed as incentive for good work.
Use him to make straw sales and transfers to known criminals.
Operation ended with the only arrest being the retarded guy they hired and gave drugs to.
They trashed the store and never played the landlord the rent they owed.
They somehow lost an m4 in the process.

I kinda want to work for the ATF, it seems like fun.

Nah, it's push and pull game. Learned this from a LEO: always try to subtly pull info from these types (practice before hand), and have a couple buddies on call, one to water down the situation and another scout the environment for others. Gather onfo Then call and report to LEO. If your lucky to have a strong ship with LEO, u can get ABC demoted for being a dumbshit ( but that's what their payed for) or get word on the street and town slowly rejects ABC like food poisoning.

One of the biggest problems in protective security is the tendency for contractors, soldiers, officers and other types who should really know better to get caught out by very straightforward traps.

Pretty much everyone warns against speaking to anyone in Belgium, for example, due to the amount of Russians operating in and around the institutions there. Protip: if you have a face like a Papa Johns and struggle to make conversation with the fat secretary in your office, you are not the type who is going to get approached by 5'11 of Belarussian stunner and invited for a drink at her place. Well, you might be, but don't be surprised when your career takes an interesting turn afterward.

The same tactics are applied against the public by LEOs. They work, more often than not, unless the target has been specifically trained in counter-espionage methods.
>>
>>33869733
You sound like you know a fair bit about this, got more info?
>>
>>33869802
What would you like to know?
>>
>>33869822
Is Belgium really such a hotspot? Why are there so many Russians there? And what is an example of a counter-espionage method other than just telling obvious traps to fuck off?
>>
>>33869663
>All hail the death prism
We need to make a ATF honeypot knockoff Murderkube patch
>>
>>33869860
Belgium has probably the largest concentration of western intelligence, military and LEO organisations in the world. Its domestic police and intelligence agencies are nearly at breaking point with their Islamic terrorism problem, not to mention the various political and social scandals that rock the country every five to ten years. This, combined with the large Eastern European diaspora, contributes toward a country that is very popular with Russian agents. It's also in Schengen, which makes access easy. They do not have free reign, but it's pressing.

>And what is an example of a counter-espionage method other than just telling obvious traps to fuck off?
That is entirely possible to do, but alcohol can take over. So can the occasion itself, many young fliers on their first staff exercise or foreign posting. Big receptions at the embassy or palaces, lots of good wine and so on. They get taken away in it. It sounds romantic, because it is, but the Russians understand this fully. Chinese attempts have been less successful, but the Russians get something every year.

They aren't always women agents, either. Men seduce men, or in certain cases women. The more talented ones don't seduce you at all, they're the quiet exchange student that lives in your building or makes friends with your daughter. Some don't even have a cover, as they're not technically employed by the Russian intelligence services, and simply pass on information.

The Russian effort in Belgium is vast and there's plenty of open source stuff on it. Most successful counter-espionage is down to risk reduction before the posting begins, so briefing and education. When on task, it's a lot more difficult.
>>
>>33869931
Never knew Belgium was so important, or that they had Islamic terror issues.

Maybe I will reschedule my vacation.
>>
>>33869931
So long story short... can you fuck the sweet looking little agent trying to get that info, then step away without dropping the info? Let's face it, Dicking an atf-honeypot without giving her anything in return sounds like a good time and a hell of a story, or are you asking to get fucked up?
>>
>>33869931
I'll add to this, whilst I'm on it.

It's unlikely that you are going to find yourself pursued by Boris and Svetlana through the streets of Bruges, big crates of Duvel getting knocked over by your Aston Martin, but you will get followed at some point. Instead of attempting to lose them (you will not) or make contact with them (never do this), it's best just to carry on what you were doing regardless of what it is.

This prevents them from establishing a break in the pattern. You don't know how long you've been followed for. If they know you meet with Person 1 between 12:30 and 1:30 every Wednesday, and follow you as such, avoiding this person when you are meant to be meeting(regardless of who it is) simply confirms to them that this individual is worth further surveillance, and integral to your organisation or group. Knowing when you have been followed, and acting accordingly, limits most active efforts and frustrates the foreign agencies.

The rest of it is the sort of stuff dependent on role or responsibility. Personal Security is another nightmare, with the advent of social media.
>>
>>33869985
Yeah that's a good point. Can I honeypot a honeypot? Take a trip and make it look like I'm some sort of rookie agent and get some Russ puss?
>>
>>33869985
She will acquire something and you risk a very frank, career limiting interview with someone very unpleasant afterward. They have their ways. Even if you keep quiet about the Brigadier General's animal porn stash and how many nuclear missiles Israel has, they'll still get something. And something leads to somewhere else.

If you are one of the few men on the planet that is regularly approached by supermodel tier women, carry on.

>>33869963
Bruges is pleasant. Avoid Brussels and Antwerp, stick to the rural bits. See a few monk beer places. Leave the ID card at home if you're military and don't mention it to anyone, even friendly Americans and Brits who get a conversation going with another English speaker. Someone is listening.

>>
>>33870040
>She'll get something from you.
A baby hopefully.

All kidding aside, I'm mostly just talking about domestically, similar to the case with OP. Young gun owner myself who lives in an area where there are plenty of students and young activists, some of who like to push the limits of peaceful protest/assembly. So in a scenario like OPs, should you sperg out like he did (a seemingly solid move on his part, granted), or instead have your fun and simply make sure you never agree to a damn thing on the off chance she's just some dumb protester you might get a fun night out of?
>>
>>33870040
I find all this fascinating, thanks for sharing. Have you any books you'd recommend on the subject?
>>
>>33862345
When beautiful strange women approach you and ask you to join their activist group it is because they want to waste your time and you won't get ANYTHING out of it other than a place on a governmental list of known Bolshevik agitators.
>>
>>33870123
I think that depends on what you're willing to lose. If it is law enforcement, then they will have at least some suspicion toward you. The grounds for this might be illegitimate, but it's still there and don't doubt their ability to play dirty.

If it's a student or generic leftist, exercise a different type of caution. Don't say anything to them you wouldn't say to a courtroom. If they ask you about guns, change the subject or talk about sport shooting. Make a joke about rednecks or the NRA, whatever you must.

Best practice is to avoid such people in general.

>>33870136
There's not a great deal out there on practical counter-espionage. Due to it being outside of most security studies/international relations literature, there's nothing academic too.

The internet is probably your best bet, aside from learning it first hand. There are documents on WikiLeaks (careful) detailing various intelligence practices, which are worth a look. Keywords are obvious, but look at more recent documents (2000 onward, maybe 1991) as prior to that everything was done pen and paper with an overhead - no .ppt files. Anything you do get before that is unlikely to be of good use.

My lil bro and I went to the Oaks PA gunshow a couple times, and over the summer, there was this attractive young(er) woman there by herself. She sort of worked the perimeter on the quieter side of the show. The part where the old ladies are trying to sell off their husbands' things and maybe there are a couple of rifles and an old revolver. Summer time, hot as balls, and she has a pleather jacket and jeans on. Seemed like she was trying to buy from sellers without doing background checks or something. Jacket hiding a handgun? I used the experience to explain UCs and entrapment to lil' bro. He's catching on quick.

>>
>>33872462
I actually moved out of the area. It wasn't exactly close for me, but the venue was huge. Last time I walked out with a $300 case of Wolf Gold .223, lashed onto an ALICE frame and shelf, gi wool mitten liners, a horse canteen, dindu targets, a Mora, and an Austrian goretex M65 jacket. I got to handle a 41 Johnson rifle there too. It's a quality show, well worth the drive. Enough vendors there that you can shop around on prices.

Hey whats the diff of a straw purchase and buying guns as gifts?
>>
>>33875126
It's ok as long as the person is legally allowed to own a firearm and you're not intentionally getting it for someone who can't legally possess it.
>>
>>33875144

So that red guy in that fb post is setting up a straw purchase because he wants to buy it indeirectly?

What if i know there is room to profit, so i buy it and sell it to him, without knowing anything about him?
>>
>>33875180
Read the last blue comment.
>>
>>33875180
Buying a firearm with the intent to resell it for a profit is illegal, need an FFL for that.

desu the Red guy may not be doing anything illegal, depends if the deal for "both" is a private purchase. If it's a deal package some guy on armslist (or anyone else that isn't a dealer) is asking for and he's interested in only one of the firearms, doing something like that should be fine. If he wants to someone to buy two firearms from a licensed FFL and then sell him one of them, it's a bit of a grey area. I believe that straw purchases are mostly about intent though and whether the person you're buy the gun for can legally posses it.
>>
>>33875180
Buying a gun with the specific intent of selling it is illegal if you don't have an FFL.

Buying a gun with the intent of giving it to someone as a gift is explicitly permitted.

>>
>>33875126
A straw purchase would be the person then paying you for the gun after you gave it to them.

A gift is just that, a gift. There's nothing illegal about gifting someone a gun. Intent and actions are the name of the game.
>>
>>33875106
oh god i should not have opened that
>>
>>33875294
I was wrong, it's illegal regardless of intent and whether or not both people can legally own firearms.

Basically be as competent as their worst agent on purpose. You know, just enough so there's always someone else who'll get fired first. That's a notable and respectable profession right?

They closed up, and left when nobody took the bait.
>Obama's face on targets
>SBR's, SBS's for sale...cheap
>"Are you a Class 3 dealer?"
>"We don't need a Class 3 if we're just selling in state"
>No one in town knew these guys, they just showed up one day.
>Always hinting at something sinister.
It wasn't kosher.

>secret ATF agents and a retarded guy own/work a fake pawn shop
Take it one step further by working in >>33859654

>The owner is the ATF, the day manager is an undercover FBI agent investigating a shady gunshop that never seems to have actual sales. The clerk is a retarded ex-con hired by the ATF through his PO.

The FBI agent is constantly trying to investigate the undercover ATF and clerk but always being foiled at the last minute before he ever finds out what's going on.

not that anon but I know a bit.

Veteran/smart criminals who most importantly never got caught are amazing fountains of such wisdom. Fuckers can smell a spook, cops, and other pros from a miles away I swear. Even identify which is which too.

The reason why I suggest them is because they rather like sticking it to certain parties(almost always a few stories there but good luck getting them to share) and being able to brag...without actually revealing about what they do. Its frankly rare for someone like that to get a decent outlet that wont compromise themselves. If your willing to be that outlet they will be willing to share quite a few secrets especially if it can even remotely screw over certain parties.

Be very careful though lest it turn out the person actually IS in the espionage business in a more backed capacity. Which can totally happen, usually those types of characters will refuse to share secrets that can inhibit their line of work, but its certainly a risk that you should be aware of.

There are also ways to learn it the hard way...but frankly that is a very risky business. To start off with something easy I would say start with people watching...and then watching people who are people watching. If you spend enough time at it eventually your going to start noticing things, but watch out this is when things will get risky.

because while you are now able to notice things...you most likely are unable to hide the fact you are able to notice things. Which can draw the wrong kind of attention and can really come back to bite you on the ass. Which is why I suggest making sure you have a damn good poker face and beat a calm retreat whenever you notice something is even remotely off. As your going to be using both more then you would think.

One of the worst things about the new information age is the ease in which blackmail can be acquired. Even fake blackmail can be of such high quality that its impossible to prove it.

Depends on if they underestimate you or not.

If they know you know some things they will not for instance EVER make the mistake of sending a woman with certain scars from certain lines of work because that sorta thing is a dead giveaway if you have any clue as to what to look for.

Problem is that puts them in a bind because that more then likely means they are stuck with using inexperienced agents who haven't acquired the surprisingly literal scars that signify that she is a veteran. Hence its risky to send such a noob...against someone who is quite possibly rather experienced.

There is also the way they move, but the problem with this is they are trained to hide this fact, but the truth of the matter is. If you know what to look for its very hard to conceal certain things related to that. Especially given how its probably been ingrained in a such fashion as to have nearly gotten them killed or saved their life.

Kinda hard to forget that sorta stuff...and it makes you very sensitive to it as result.

Problem is what if your a complete noob and they send someone tailored made to your tastes? Which can happen as doing your homework on targets is pretty much rule number 1. Know your target.

In such a case the best and only thing you can do is send out false positives and negatives. Basically your goal is very simple.

You need to make it impossible for them to decipher the truth.

After all if they cannot be sure what exactly your tastes are...how can they send someone who tailored made to fit it?

...but there is a problem with even something like this. They will either think you are paranoid, trying to hide your gay, or someone in the business. Possibly a combination if not all three.

If they think your in the business when in fact your not can be an extremely dangerous thing for you, but at the same time if they are already targeting you in a such a capacity your already rather screwed no matter what.

PLEASE RESPOND

Will they fucking spy on literally anyone? Theyre not gonna spy on some dad (me) and his wife and kids on holiday right?

Why do they spy on strangers in the first place?

>Will they fucking spy on literally anyone?
No.

>Theyre not gonna spy on some dad (me) and his wife and kids on holiday right?
If you have a job or background that interests them, yes.

>Why do they spy on strangers in the first place?
They don't, they have a fairly good idea (in some cases a very good idea) of who will be where at what time and what role or task they have.

>>33872702
Old, but relevant experience. I sort of fell into it through other routes. I've done a lot of private sector vetting and interviewing for niche roles since then.
