.25 ACP was used for the stalin purges.
It has been used in both war and homicides since it was invented in the early 1900s.
.22lr may be older but it has fewer genocides/mass executions under its belt.
As for for rifle rounds, x54R seems to be the best bet as it's been used extensively in every war since its invention.

I seriously hope you don't believe this.

I'd agree, but 20+ Million dead on the eastern front = 8mm (not ALL, but many of them). Add WWI, and I think we have a winner. On the other hand, 54r has been in use for over 100 years, so it is a contender too.
In the last 50+ years, these 2, the AKM (7.62x39) and the G3 (7.62x51) have probably killed the most people, considering all the war casualties from places like Africa and the Middle East, not to mention Eastern Europe.
8mm mauser, since 2 World Wars plus countless smaller ones to this very day
Most likely some artillery round.

8mm Mauser
>used in two world wars
>used by mobile death squads in holocaust
>used by numerous partisans against axis
>axis had far greater kill count than allies due to soviets getting btfo

>20+ Million dead on the eastern front = 8mm
Kill yourself 8 mm kil count is max 400-700 k
I'm sure there are specialized autists out there trying to figure out which artillery piece did the most.

Only Balkans and Ukraine have had any significant wars after WW2. Ukraine has a killcount under 10k, mostly grad-induced, while Balkans had maybe 100k max, also mostly arty induced.
Africa has probably seen a few million gun deaths due to the nature of the wars there, however. Russian 7.62×39 is probably ahead of 7.62×51 simply due to availability, even though between them K/D probably favours the NATO round.
>>33854938
I would wager 9mm luger, simply due to criminal activity.

There really aren't that many, and they are dwarfed even by shit like the Iraq war.

A round that is incredibly widespread, used by groups whose rely heavily on small-arms. Western/modern armies tend to blow shit up more than poorly equipped groups.
8mm Mauser and 7.62x39 fit this description best for their respective halves of the 20th century. When you consider that the AK was oftentimes used by both sides of conflicts that at times involved massacres of a genocidal scale, it's pretty safe to say 7.62x39 is probably the 'winner'.
>>33855930
I said standard Issue.
>>33855875
>9 x 19 mm
This.
It's been around for over 100 years. Is used by countless armies, police forces and criminals(!) around the world.
For a non-handgun cartridge I'd call 7,62x39 mm seeing how widespread AK models are in the third world with all of it's conflicts over the last 60 years
So I've always been wondering about this and I feel this is the right thread to ask in: are there any estimates as to how many people were killed by bullets during WW1 and WW2? I only recently found out that artillery was the primary killer and so I wanted to know about this

The stats are relatively easily available by googling them. Try small arms death in ww2.
