That's what I'd thought for years, before I finally decided to go to one on a whim. Everyone was nice, everyone was safe. Certainly a better crowd than a typical trip to a public range. It was just a bunch of nerds with guns. A bit more meming IRL than I'd care for, but nothing's perfect. I have every intention of going to more meetups in the future, if they fit into my schedule, and I recommend to anyone that's hesitant to take the plunge.

It worked out for me. Mainefag here, met 3 /k/omrades at a local gravel pit to shoot, and had a good time. I got to shoot a Luger and and Enfield for the first time. One was a stereotypical /gq/ guy who showed up in WW2 British milsurp, and it was pretty cool.

Lots of work and little time for home. I'm building two AR-10's now. One for me and one for a co worker. I've got a krieger barrel on mine so I'm going to see how accurate I can get it. I also just watercooled my PC with a custom loop.

I'm also getting close to having all the tools I need to build my AK kits and rebuild a Romanian Guards kit that closes on a No-go gauge. I have had to make tools to press out barrels as well as mill out a plate to help with pressing out rear sight blocks.

If you live in PA or are a state bordering PA you are more than welcome to join.

We try to host meet up every three day weekend and do meetups to centralia /abandoned turnpike camping trips or just camp.

We also also sometimes have build parties or meet at gun shows.


So far there are I think 65 members spread across the state mainly around lancaster,pitt,philly,harrisburg, and york to name a few.

Sorry, I quit trying the Az chan shoots, they were too depressing.

Some were amusing at best, but still..

Loads of Nuggets and Mossberg shotguns, maybe an AR or a 10/22. Meanwhile I was bringing a Lahti pistol or a BYF41 Luger.. Maybe the MAS 49 or the G 43.. Only one had some amusing stuff, like one of the semi auto Suomi clones, that'd occasionally double due to the action shucking in the stock/

Shit just got old. People would look at what I brought but never shoot it, even though I had scads of ammo. I've since sold much of my collection.

Now I live in Ky. The one shoot that was tried here fell through.

Now, I live in what may as well be a bunker, and shoot smallbore, inside. I can't get people to shoot like I used to, where we'd shoot a case or two on a weekend. Now it's all "Oh I can only afford 20 rounds"... while they pass up the chance to dump as much as they want from one of my AR's or other rifles. Other than the crazy shit like one of the French pistols in 7.35 or the time the fucking extractor blew out of my Lahti pistol due to some funky prewar Norwegian ammo, I never even considerded saying "nope" to letting someone shoot as much as they wanted.

So after a while, I gave up.

I figured nobody wants to shoot a Lee-Enfield as fast as they can, just because, or see if a Garand can make the wood smoke.

Or how long can a WW1 1911 go without a stoppage (A lot. More magazines than I own, and I have a bunch).

People seem hesitant to shoot other people's stuff, or anything they think is rare., no matter how it is presented.

So I quit trying to let people have fun.
Because nobody seemed to want to have fun.

It was no fun for me either.

Loading a F350, picking up people all over the valley, setting up the "spread" and FFS, some of them were bringing airshit.

A couple of the shoots I spent more time fixing guns than shooting them.
(others, not mine. )

I didn't like the direction the shoots were going either. Even gave out some freebies as incentives to further more participation, but as I mentioned, I eventually gave up. Sold a lot of my stuff, then moved.

With few exception I had 30 years on most of the people who showed.

As I mentioned, i was often picking up shooters and driving them to the site. A lot of them did not have cars, or reliable transportation to the sires which were often way out in the boonies.

I also often carried things like water, tables and shade. for said shoots, since I had the means and matter to provide.

Figured that was part of the deal, bring what you could, for those that needed.
