/wfg/ Writefag General_Teach your guns bun safety

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Thread replies: 315
Thread images: 118

A place to share books, stories, and assorted writefaggotry.

All writing is welcome, even if it's only tangentially related to /k/.

Give thanks to Polybus a
nd Archivefag for keeping /wfg/ afloat.
It's been unscientifically proven that a lack of (you)s for writers can lead depression, alcoholism, story abandonment, and an hero.

But it's so easy to make a difference in a writer's life. Just one (you) a day can make the difference between a happy writer and a writer on permanent hiatus.

Please, post now. Help make a writer's day.

don't even think about going to Valhalla before we know not only why Lily did what she did but also where all of this led her and Anon, because if I don't get a conclusion I'm going to get my answers after leaving this world for Veri-Vainajala (the ancient Finnish belief is that those who bled to death will go to a place where they will fight until the end of times & the blood they spill in the process is what the living know as Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, this place is called "veri-vainajala", "veri" means blood and "vainajala" means the place of the dead)

It's one of my little quirks that when I take an interest in something or someone, (more mildly in people for obvious aspie reasons) I hear something and it's in my head forever and I REALLY like things I have an interest in. people around me for more than three hours a month take note of this quite regularly. Some people exposed to me for a few hours a week over a couple months will actually identify me by this trait.

>being under 45.39 kilograms is shitty

basically, there are other forms of afterlife as well, while I don't know/remember all of the details, the underlying theme is that there are many things that affect where you end up after your death, some of the options resemble the Christian Hell (for example those who kill their brother will most certainly find themselves in the worst possible form of afterlife.)

Is Christianity as accepted as it is demanded by other countries?

not sure what you mean

history of religions: I was taught the origins of Judaism and Christianity plus tiny bits about some other religions at school, the official story of how Christianity arrived to Finland was mentioned both during religion classes as well as history classes, though since then I have come to believe the archaeologists claiming that Christianity had already spread here long before the Swedish king arrived with an army to convert us & that it was more about conquest and/or making absolutely sure Finns were Catholics rather than Eastern Orthodox.
>>
>>33865003
now that I think about it, it was only recently that I learned about the fact that util 1920s Jews weren't allowed to move to Finland (a law dating back to Swedish times forbid it) & that during the Russian rule the Jews and Muslims serving in the Russian army were given an exemption, it was then that I learned about the fact that we have had a small muslim community ever since the Russian rule.
>>

I've been creating backstories and unnecessary details for characters that aren't likely to ever have the information that I'm creating divulged in the story.
Like this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13NM5vZ9Xh0bNACUEdRnAVaedI3DTJyPM-BX-BMr_fCY/edit#gid=0
It's nowhere near done, but that's Tanya's squad. I still need to add her brothers and dad, not to mention all of the other characters that are going to be added. Also her guns' geists, and I need to work on the ship design and specifications... Maybe a map of it too? That would be cool, but time-consuming to create by hand.
Any of you know of a free drafting software that I could use?

>>
>>33866185
Louisville to Philidelphia is ~400 (was $406.10 the last time I went) for a round trip on Delta (I go there every year for Passover), so you'd better start putting away 10-20 bucks a month. International will likely be ~1000 for a round trip. I'll be back after I check prices.

What part of Sweden JT's in will also effect the price.

___

Leaving the village behind you, you go deeper in the countryside. The coordinates you hoarded during weeks seem to lead you nowhere. there was sometime what was once a shellhole, a part of a trench... Nobody seems to care about preserving the landscape of those places and the history behind it. There is museums here and there, some places where a few devoted people preserved meters from a trench, others where everything has been rebuild to get rid of the scars the war left behind.

Back from where you came. Nothing left to see and you don't want to go to the tourist attractions. You wanted to get a feel of the real war that set Europe alight a century ago.You drivie with the slow and smooth rumble of the engine, the feel of the car speeding past swirling roads, the sweet scent of pines and the coming winter. You feel yourself drift away ever so slowly. You stop on the side of the road and let yourself go.You can almost see Jane looking at you with worry in her eyes and then blackness overcomes your meagre resistance.
>>
>>33866351
Th loving embrace of the darkness soothes you and your agitated mind. You can feel your heart slowing down, your breath becoming more shallow with each passing second. You drift away, floating in a black velvet, only disturbed by echoing voices far, far away. You can almost feel the very fabric of your sleep, this silky touch on the tip of your fingers ; or the deep pulsations of your heart sending blood through your body.

A distant voice still echoes somewhere. If only it could stop and let you drift away. But it's almost like the voice is becoming louder. You can feel something amiss in the silky fabric. Something rough, cold. Or is it hot ? There's a tugging sensation in your chest, something, or someone, pulling on your shirt. Or is it something pushing on your chest ? There's so much disturbing feels, you want them to stop and let you sleep.
>>
>>33866354
The silky sensation returns a bit, this time on your lips. It recedes quickly and the tugging begins anew. You can feel the black velvet ripping apart here and there. Why, Why ?! With another touch on your lips, the blackness gives away. you can feel the air around you, hot and wet, heavy with a metal smell, corrupted by some foul odor. Your nostrils twitch and you alsmot puke. Opening your eyes, you can see someone on you, moving with a desperate frenzy. You realize you are lying down somewhere.

Moving your fingers, you can grasp earth. Freshly moved earth. Or rather mud. Mud everywhere. Rising the left arm to see your hand, you realize it is extremely dirty. Mud beneath your nails, cracks on the skin, holes in the mittens. Looking down, you see a blueish sleeve, with small buttons. It's as dirty of not more compared to your hands.
>>
>>33866354
The figure is bending over and speaking at you. With your ears ringing, or rather full of cotton, you can't distinguish the words. She grab you by the shoulders and set you up. You're sitting, leaning against something as muddy as the earth. Before you, hell on earth.
Like the earth has been ploughed and ploughed without any pause for years by unfatiguable horses. Here and there, small depressions in the ground, with little metalic objects poking in and out of them.

" Hey, hey, ... on, don't ... me ! Can ... hear me !? Say ... thing ... hell !". The voice again. With the cotton falling apart on its own, you can make out the sentence. It's a girl. Or you think it is, you can't beleive a girl would be there. She wears clothes that are clean. She has her hair done. No makeup, but in this hell, who would have makeup ? She looks at you with hazelnut eyes flashing with despair.

"Can you see me? What do you see ?" she asks you calmly. You can see she's afraid, but she does not let it transpire in her words.
You open you mouth, spit some blood but the metallic smell does not go away. Dry air going through your throat burns and tears comes to your eyes. You manage a single word. "L'enfer"

It's an annoyance when you have the kind of gridlock traffic that we do.

>>33866388
what's gridlock traffic ? like, everything is in square shape ? No roundabout ?
>>
>>33866393
from what i have learned from /o/ americans are not a fan of roundabouts
>>
>>33866393
We don't have roundabouts. Well, there's a few being built now in rich suburbs but that's not where the problem is.

And yeah, it's basically a lot of being practically parked on the highway, then having to speed up suddenly when it starts moving again. Especially bad in my state capitol because they give the fucking Somalis licenses without making sure they know how to drive first.
>>
>>33866393
It's where some asshole is moving absurdly slowly and everyone's moving at 5mph at most. Under normal circumstances, this is because there was a wreck or there's construction work being done. When this happens, it's stop-and-start for the next few miles until you get past the cause. This can also be caused by old people being old people.

There's one roundabout here in Madison, but everyone fucking hates using it and tries to avoid it when they can. The worst part is that it's in front of the Truck hill, so you have semis going through it every now and then.

It must be remembered that the US's infrastructure is shit and falling apart. The Department of Transportation needs a fucking raise.

>>33866418
Yep.
>>
>>33866403
It's not really that we don't like them, it's that most of our road infrastructure was built before they were invented, and it would be insanely expensive to install them. And then when they do get put in, people don't know how to use them so they end up confused and frustrated.

>>
>>33866449
>>33866418
Makes sense. We have it too on the highway especially around holidays when everyone is going somewhere and want to get there fast.

So, basically there's like 20 minutes of waiting for it to start again, then you move for 5 minutes and stop again ?
We call them "bouchons", that would be "plug" or "choke".

I find roundabouts nice. I'm used to it I guess. If they were not there it would be hell.
>>
>>33866592
>So, basically there's like 20 minutes of waiting for it to start again, then you move for 5 minutes and stop again ?
Ayup. That's gridlock. Except we have it on city streets too, not just highways.
>>
>>33866592
It's not just during the holidays. It's every day. If you live in a city, then you have an hour long commute to get home or to work at minimum if you have to go on the highway. Every single day. Luckily, Madison (IN) is small enough that that isn't as much of a problem. Though, it still happens when school buses have to stop to get kids or turn onto another street (We just recover faster).
>>
>>33866616
When I was going to the inner city campus of my university, I ended up cycling half the time because it was faster than driving in gridlock.

Then I transferred to a campus way out in the boonies and never looked back. Fuck cities.
>>
>>33866615
>>33866616
Hell, you almost making me not want to visit the US even once.
How can you cope with it everyday ? I have it perhaps for 30 minutes tops if I get in town in the worst hour (around 8.30am), but not that much !
>>
>>33866628
As long as you avoid the megacity hellholes it's not so bad. Small town America is a great place to live but the cities are hell on earth.
>>
>>33866628
If you were born in a large city, it's just a fact of life. (Like Terrorism in France /kappa)
If you've never known anything else, then you don't mind it as much. Also, as >>33866637 said, that's only in large cities, like DC, Philly, Louisville, Indianapolis, Detroit (though, they also have people shooting at them), Pittsburg, L.A., and so forth and on.
Otherwise, a smaller city, of ~30,000 like where I live is mostly fine. With us, it's mostly just stoplights that fuck up the commute, but we're small enough that it doesn't matter.

Another problem with large cities and, I'm sure that you've experienced this, is the fact that they are old. They aren't designed to be driven in by cars. Their roads are designed for horses, buggies, and walking on if you're in the older parts of town, so they're windy as fuck and it's easy to get lost. The highways are the exception, and so people think that it'll be faster to use them, and if it's not rush hour, they'd be right.
>>
>>33866675
Touché.

I never lived in really big cities. I don't even know how big is my current one. I don't care honestly, I 'm getting out of here next year.

Yeap. Downtown here is narrow as hell, you can't walk side by side in some streets. There's a big shopping street but otherwise good luck, especially around the river.

America is strange sometimes.
>>
>>33866388
you havent seen drive hell when your city is on the big side and the road plans are a couple of centuries old

>>33866379
looks good to me man, glad to have you back
>>
>>33866693
That's mostly only a problem with East Cost large cities, though. The farther west you go, the newer the city, and the more likely it is that it was designed to be efficient, rather than having just kinda sprung up. (Though, NYC is an exception)
>>
>>33866729
Well, Boston looks simpler to me.
I don't know how I'd dinstinguish West 44th Street from another one. But I know how to go from Boulevard d'Alsace to Place Foch.

Your plans reminds me of Roman camps plans.

>>33866710
I had a bit of downtime, sorry. It has been ectic around here lately.
>>
>>33866751
West 44th is the street that is the 44th from Main, and west of Madison avenue.
Main Street is, generally, the first road that a city has, and can either run north-south or east-west. 44th east would be the street to the east of Madison ave as 44th west.
44th West goes all the way from one side of Manhattan island to the Madison, then you get 44th East on the other side.
Not all cities have a Madison avenue, but there's always some street used as the center.
In Madison IN, we use West Street to differentiate between the east and west.
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Madison,+IN/@38.7630224,-85.4027103,17.5z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x886a3ae6e352496b:0x9bce9b78b2c9ef3a!8m2!3d38.7358933!4d-85.3799577

Mind, our downtown is literally at the bottom of the river valley. Uptown is more like Boston, but still not as bad. Now, if I were walking I wouldn't mind all of the turns and such, but if you're driving then it's a lot harder to tell where you're going due to your speed.

Same goes for a lot of small towns. The town is usually divided by the railroad and mainstreet runs parallel to that. It might seem confusing at first but once you figure it out it makes navigation easier.

Why the hell is round trip only 100 bucks more than one-way?
>>
An hour later, you sat at the breakfast table opposite to her, a little steam coming up from the first proper cup of coffee you’ve had for a long time. You didn’t even much like milk or sugar or whatever in it, but you did. Just because you could. She was actually excited about things. Which was worrying

¤ This is… such an problem. It’s so contradictory, and somehow just like it was back in the war. It truly is amazing
“The war…?”
¤ Yes. The war. The last, truly great war. I was there, but i sadly never saw any fighting. Wasn’t fast enough. I’m gonna buy a fast car when i get out of all this by the way. Nevermind that now, let’s get you up to date. So, do you kno-
“Wait”
¤ Ehem, yes?
“You are showing trust, come here and i’ll return the favor”

Natalya looks at you in a slightly weirded out way but follows you to the car anyway. After a little digging the Civic reveals its secrets

¤ Looks like big rounds. 155mm?
“152. But… i don’t think you understand what these are”
¤ No?
“Natalya, these are nukes”

She stops. Doesn’t talk, doesn’t move, doesn’t change her facial expression. Maybe she verified that you were in fact not joking at first, and when she understood that, it took a little while for her to process everything

¤ Nuclear…
“Yeah”
¤ Who knows you have these?
“Jake, you and Lily”
¤ Wait, so Lily left these behind after she left you, knowing what the were?
“Yes”
¤ That is very strange. Very strange indeed. Anyway, how do they work?
“Made for the M162 gun, mounted on the Starship”

Natalya cringes a little

¤ This is… suboptimal
“Yeah, she isn’t the one i’d chose to have her finger on such a button, but she is the only one that can right now. Do we give her these right away?”

She mumbles something in russian, brings up her phone and sends away a text

“What did that mean?”
¤ Hard to translate directly, but something along… What breaks my bone will break your soul. But in a figurative way
“Uhm…”
¤ These are either great offensive weapons, or that single bullet you keep in your gun so you don’t get captured.
“...”
¤ Oh come on, don’t look at me like that, i was red army after all

You are not left time enough to answer before you hear Miranda shouting

+ A-anon? You’re not dead?
“I thought so to for a little while, but no. Where is the starship?”
+ Just a few blocks away, but where is Lily and the-
“Not here”
+ Anon, what has happened…?
“Starship first, storytime later, alright?”
+ Okay…

The both jump into the little car, drive over to the M60A2 and stealthily loaded the two presents into it. Well, as stealthily as anyone can shove two nukes into a tank anyway. And then back to the house where you and Natalya spent the night, with Miranda in tow.

¤ I suppose we started with what happened to you, Anon
“Right, long story short… Went west with Lily, trying to find another Nibelung for a blessing. Which we did… I think. And then i’m pretty sure she stabbed me and left”
+ Lily… stabbed you?
“Yeah…”
+ B-but she loves you… why?
“I’m sort of working on that as well”

¤ Aaaaaaanyway. I might have some answers for you. No, really. First off, do you know what “Kubinka” is?
“No clue”
+ No. I can look it up though
¤ Don’t have to. It’s a place a little bit outside Moscow. Used to be a tank test facility in soviet times, but it’s a museum nowadays. Now when the staff found out about steel tanks and how their armor was so effective… what do you think they did?
“Started working on the ones they could fix?”
¤ Exactly. The old T-34s were easy to get working. As were the T-55s and the T-62s. But these didn’t fare too well against the Class 4s
>>
“Yeah, those things caused a lot of issues”
¤ So, the decided to get two halo tanks out
+ Isn’t that a video game?
¤ What?
“Miranda, what she means is you have something that is bigger or stronger or faster than what you usually have. And in Kubinka’s case…”
¤ One IS-4 and the IS-7 prototype they have there. And if that not amazing in itself… how do i put this… To be able to afford the work on these things, the museum had to sell some other tanks. Now, what would you sell in a situation like this?

Miranda raised her hand, looking a little excited. She got a funny look from Natalya before realising that it wasn’t quite necessary

+ Something that has no combat value or they are unable to fix?
¤ Points for emerald-eye!

Miranda did have very green eyes, but didn’t seem at all happy with it

¤ So something that is useless, and you call sell for big money… so it has to be iconic, but useless. One of these was nothing less than the Maus
“Wait, is-”
¤ Come on, can’t i tell you without being interrupted?
“Sorry, go on”
¤ Right, the Maus was bought by a private company, which have been described as everything from right wing extremists and neo nazis to brave mechanics and students wanting to protect our home, depending on who you ask
“Sounds a little concerning”
¤ Couldn’t care more if the shoot at the same things i shoot at. But nevermind that now, this is where the reports get fun. Just under a month ago the still not completed Maus was actually flown into the US from Russia.
“Why?”
¤ Yeah… this is unfortunately where my stream of facts stop and i’ve had to go on more unconfirmed reports and guessing. But…i can see two reasons. First, money. If they actually plan on getting it working, they are going to need a lot. All the cameras are here, and people who would want to spend money on it

The room fell silent a few moments

JT323SPzJgAbt653.jpg
68KB, 1126x725px
“Wait, are they restoring it?”
¤ That is half of the second reason. The other half is you
“Me?!”
¤ You did restore a Jagdtiger. But most importantly, the main gun, which is very similar to the one in the Maus
“Not like i did that on my own”
¤ But you proved it could be done. And because of the experience with the 128mm…

“Wait. calm down now. Are you suggesting Lily did this to fix another tank?”
¤ I’m not saying it’s impossible
“It’s just another tank…”
¤ Yes. but you have to consider… us as well
“You?”
¤ Caretakers, i think the word is. Now, the Maus was suppose to be the be all end all tank for the german army…
“So, say the Maus has a caretaker, Lily would… feel as a subordinate to her?”
¤ Possible. I mean, status wise, i was in a very good place in the Red army. Stalin’s daughter and all that. And Miranda, before you ask, that is figurative
+ T-thanks for clearing that out
¤ At any rate, the Maus is missing an engine and a working gun right now

And then you remember something Lily asked you just before she took you outside

“Natalya, what does the Maus weigh?”
¤ A little bit under 200 tons
“Fuck…”
¤ ...is there anything you want to say Anon?
“I probably helped them get the engine. Before she took me outside, and the knife thing out. I just gave her the idea of a diesel powered turbo compound engine. It has dual output shafts, so could help with the generators or something”
¤ Great… That actually explains the rest of the reports, then
“It does?”
¤ Yeah. explains the competition. Kubinka sent their IS tanks here, in what i now understand is a damn show off
+ So the museum people want to show all cameras their IS tanks are better than the german one?
¤ Not one German. We have to assume Lily, her Jagdtiger and the Elefant will join up
+ What about crews?
¤ You think it is going to be difficult to find someone to drive the biggest tank in history?

Your eyes narrow a little bit. This is what envy feels like
>>
¤ Note that this doesn’t necessarily make them hostile. The Wehrmacht still relies on money from outside sources, meaning they have to look good in the eyes of the public
“We’re calling them the wehrmacht now?”

Natalya doesn’t respond. She’s genuinely excited about all this

¤ So this is now, a three versus one battle. Plus! the personal goals, involved and then with atomic flavor!
+ Personal goals?
¤ Simple dear. I want my hands on that IS-7 and Anon wants his love back. And i’m guessing you’d like to end up in a situation where those warheads come in handy

And things fell silent again. She was right. This was deliciously complicated. But there was still one thing you missed

“When you say you want your hands on the IS-7, what does that mean?”
¤ Mine is falling apart. Even the welds…
“But… can you just climb over to that one?”
¤ This IS-7 never had a caretaker, so it is still… available so to say. And it’s not that much harder than just welding the tanks together with each other. I think
“Uhm… as much as i’d like to that is something i really can’t help you with”

And that marked the end of Natalya’s briefing. Miranda returned to another house, for the sole reason it had her pile of blankets and a working Playstation there. This left you and Natalya in the house. There was a hint of tension between you. Not horrible, but awkward enough not for anyone to start speaking. You mindlessly flicked through some silly game on your phone and she was looking for things to eat
>>
¤ Anon…
“Yes?”
¤ What do you plan to do here?
“I Figured a mechanic is always useful. Probably gonna follow you guys around and help out best i can”
¤ Please don’t
“Why?”
¤ Michel is horrible under stress. He has managed to do pretty much every fuck up possible. And my place is not in the commander’s seat
“You want me there?”
¤ Yes, but i can’t just have that without some… demands
“Demands?”
¤ Anon, if you sit in that seat i want to be treated with the same respect you treated Lily with
“Wait now…”
¤ Please! I said respect! Not closeness, or love or anything like that

“Respect is something you earn. You have earned yours, trust me. Hell, right now i probably respect you more than Lily”
¤ ...very well. Good. So-
“Not yet”
¤ Fine! Just tell me when, alright?
“Yeah, will do. But for now, the less people know i live the better”
¤ Sounds okay

Without too much to do at the little town apart from the endless track tensioning, you did some nice and easy reconnaissance. It was pretty much the only thing, apart from liaison duties the Honda was actually capable off. But then again, so was a Vespa. You got yourself a map, and spent almost all day scooting around in the surrounding area, looking at all sorts of places. The little lake, how soft was the ground surrounding it? How dense was the forrest? What was a good place for an ambush? Likely enemy approaches? Worst case approaches?

It was a good thing to do. Someone else had probably done it already, but it never hurt to familiarize yourself with the area. Especially if the only other option was staying at the house with Natalya. What were you going to do with this situation?
>>
Natalya was undeniably beautiful… But was she there as a substitute for Lily? Probably. It was strange the whole of it. Like you were both comforting each other, very well knowing this wasn’t exactly right. You wanted a place in your heart reserved for. You did well and truly love her, and you wanted to still. But… right now you couldn’t. If nothing else, those feelings were on hold until you knew what was going on.

Of course it was a silly thought thinking you could put feeling on hold. Feelings don’t work like that, especially not the strong, burning ones, which you had. You didn’t have to spend long worrying about that since the rain rolled in, effectively ending any further scouting. BAck at the house, Natalya had made her best efforts to get the IS-3 into the little garage the house had, but being a heavy tank, a lot of the engine deck was out in the rain. And it had a bad tendency to rust which would make the engine bay into a swimming pool, meaning Natalya was soaking wet before she had managed to fix some cover for it

She was cursing under a blanket when you returned. Her clothes were hanging in front of the DIY fireplace she made with an oil drum and terrifyingly good skills with an oscillating saw and a welder. She didn’t actually hear you enter, so she kept mumbling something. It was probably in russian, since you didn’t understand any of it. It sounded angry at first, but the speech pattern changed, got lower, slower and… sadder?

In just a few minutes, Natalya was crying for herself. You were absolutely stunned by this. You had seen Lily cry, but she was more like someone who would allow herself to do that. Natalya on the other hand was ice cold, very rarely let any emotions, especially sad ones slip out. She wore some kind of armor, which wasn’t the tank. These were emotional barriers

And you had smashed your way through those with all the grace of a bright red Corvette doing donuts in a parking lot. At a funeral

And she didn’t know. You slowly, SLOWLY back outside in the rain, leaving the door just a little bit open, to make sure it doesn’t make any sounds. Back to the car, carefully open the car door, and then slamming it shut to make sure she heard you. You walked with bold steps, make a conscious effort to make as much noise from the door handle as possible

“Hey Nat!”
¤ Hi

Her reply was short, and not enough to betray any deviation in her voice. Something had to be done to lighten the mood

“Know if we have any milk?”
¤ Milk…?
“Yeah, i found choco powder or whatever, but it mixed best with milk”
¤ We got nothing. There is milk powder. Maybe mix
“Alright, i’ll get a cup for you as well”
¤ Don’t need it

You walk off to kitchen. Of course, there was no electricity so neither the fridge or the stove worked. Not that it was much of a problem in late December, anything stored outside will remain cold. You get outside, and use Natalya’s DIY tank shelter to collect some rainwater before running in and guesstimating the ratio of choca to milk powder, stirring it up and heating it with the stove.

“There we go… probably not as good as normal ones, but consider the circumstances and i’m happy with it”
¤ So enjoy it
“Uh huh…”

You poured up two cups while speaking, taking one for for yourself and handing one over.

¤ I don’t need it
“No, you don’t need a bed either, but it’s still nice to have. Drink up, it will warm you”

Natalya wants to appears as if she reluctantly accepts the cup, but she was still somewhat new to western food. Especially sweet things, like soda and candy. And no matter how much they want to hide it, most girls have a sweet tooth in one way or the other. Natalya was no different.
>>
You still weren’t much good at killing awkwardness, and stool next to the sofa where Natalya was curled up and hidden underneath a blanket. But this time, you were too deep in thought to even notice anything awkward, and after several minutes of just staring into the flames and holding your cup, you let out a very short statement

“It doesn’t make sense”
¤ What doesn’t?
“Say Lily needed to fix that tank… First off, i am a good mechanic, and i can do some engineering bullshit. I could have helped a lot. But not only did she feel she had to get away, she had to kill me as well”
¤ She didn’t
“She tried to”
¤ Did she?
“Look, it was a chance in a hundred for me to survive that. The blade went between my lungs, and-”
¤ The lungs are not that close together, and yes it missed the heart
“Augh… i just don’t get it”
¤ You are going to have to speak with her
“It’s not like i can send a damn text and asking what’s up after like a month”
¤ You’ll have to wait then. I have a feeling this is going to be a rather close fight, now that there are three parties fighting. Especially since the russian and the germans want to beat each other
“You’re not russian?”
¤ Soviet
“Oh, right”

The relentless rain kept falling from blackened sky. As time went on it became less rain and more a slushy, rainy snow mixture. At least that didn’t make as much noise as the heavy droplets did when they hit the windows. Again you fall asleep sharing a bed with Natalya. Heat loss was a concern, and you both decided that it was important to keep warm. Or that is what you said at least. If you meant it, on the other hand, was another question entirely

[All for me this time! give opinions, throw shit! complain

Cheyenne Mountain Complex
Start of WWII +41

>General Welch was sitting in the Main Command Center in the Cheyenne Mountain Complex looking over reports on Soviet air activity and the war in Europe
>Sense the war started the SAC command was moved from the main headquarters to the CMC due to the threat of Soviet launch
>Only reason they haven't launched yet is because it seems they believed the whole Strategic Defense Initiative crap the president was saying
>They've been at Defcon 2 sense the very start, and are monitoring the Soviets even closer than ever
>Suddenly the Klaxon goes off and Welches head shoots up to the computer monitors
>Launch detection lights begin flashing, staff members begin calling out reports
>Massive attack, high confidence, not an exercise
>"General Radar is tracking 400 inbound Soviet ICBMs" a member of command says over the intercom to the general
>One of the men in charge of the computers in the CMC runs up the General stops him
>"Is this another simulation of yours?" he asks, stress filling his voice
>"No sir, this is not a simulation" the scientist replies
>"Right, Get the bombers in the air going and those on the ground up, subs in launch mode, and send the order to the Silos, We are at Defcon 1"

>"Son, are you sure you don't want to be a fighter pilot? We could make you one hell of one if you decided to be one" the recruiter says
"Sorry sir, I already decided to try for being a missileer" you reply
>The recruiter takes one last look at you before taking some paperwork out
>"Hey, Jake. EARTH TO JAKE!" you hear a voice yell
>You're snapped out of your daydream and quickly look around
>You are in the familiar insides of a Titan II silo command center
>"There you are Jake, I was trying to talk to you" the voice says again
>you look over to the other seat in the control center to the other missileer
"Yeah, sorry Henry, was daydreaming" you say
>"Well, I was asking how much longer is our shift" Henry replies
>With a quick glance at your watch you quickly do the calculation
"We have about 13 hours left" you say
>Henry groans and leans back in his chair
>"Why do they have us on for so long?" he says with a pained voice
"We are at war with the Russians aren't we? They may launch at any second, seeing how the front in Europe is now going in our favor" you say
>"Hope they fucking don't launch, I'd love to see the Red, White, and Blue flying over the Kremlin when this is all over" Henry replies
"Yeah, then we wouldn't have to worry about the Soviets at all" you say
>The two of you continue talking for the next hour which slowly evolves into different topics
>"No, that's why the Rebel alliance cannot win, the Empire will hunt them down to the end!" Henry says
"But the Rebels can just pull another Death Star attack like in the first movie" you reply, "And Luke Skywalker is still alive"
>"Yeah but holy shit I never saw the 'I am your father part comi-" Henry says but is cut off short by the blaring of the klaxon
>"Standby to copy the message!" Henry yells over the Warble of the klaxon
"Standing by!" you reply
>"Message follows. Alpha, 7, 8, November, Foxtrot, 1, 5, 2, 2" a voice through the speakers in the LCC says

>"I agree to authentication also sir!" Henry says
>The two of you walk over to the big red box and take off the two locks
>You take out the authentication cards and compare them to the code transmitted
>"Holy shit this is the real deal" Henry says
>"Input unlock code" you say as you walk over to a series of dials on the wall and put in the correct combination
"Insert Launch keys" you say
>"Key inserted sir" Henry says
"Turn keys on my mark" you say
"Mark!" you say after a few seconds then turn the key
>The light on the control panel that indicates the launch sequence has been started lights up, and you sit back in your chair
>after a few short minutes you close your eyes as the loud Buzzer that signifies the missile is away rings and the sounds of a rocket blasting off reverberate through the LCC

What do you guys think about a story set in the era of the "Wild West"? Seems most of the stories I've read are modern or semi-modern, so I thought an older time setting might be a nice change. Might try to write a brief teaser when I get back home if you guys are interested, though the teaser would be it until I'm finished with The Desert Wolf(whenever that may be).

They waited for what seemed like an eternity, but heard nothing more from the other side of the door.

“Do you think it's gone?” asked Dave in a hushed tone.

“No idea. Go check, I'll cover you,” responded Chris.

Dave mustered up his courage and stepped cautiously up to the door, weapon still trained on it. He leaned over towards the window, brushing the curtain aside with one hand.

The glass suddenly shattered as a massive, burly arm covered in fur smashed through, claws outstretched, reaching out for him. He leapt back and started dumping into the window. The creature shrieked and withdrew its arm. The door was then slammed into with great force, splintering the wood.

Dave retreated back to Chris, and they emptied their weapons into the door, the air becoming thick with the smell of gunpowder and blood.

Still, the beast kept slamming into the door. The hinges were ripped out of the frame and the door snapped in half across the middle. The creature ripped both pieces out and tossed them across the parking lot. It stood in the ruined door frame, silhouetted by moonlight. Chris shot it three more times, emptying her magazine. It shrugged the bullets off like they were bee stings and started squeezing into the opening.

Dave reached for the gun bag, but a swipe from the creature's claws nearly took his head off. Chris pulled him back at the last second, and they backed up against the wall.

“I guess this is it?” Chris asked with an uncharacteristic tremble in her voice. “There's gotta be something… a way out… I don't know! Something! Shit!”

As the canine creature bore down on them and they held onto each other for dear life, they found themselves suddenly blinded by an intense light from outside, pouring in from the broken door frame and window. The creature stopped mid-stride and turned its head.

An unfamiliar voice came from behind it. “Oi, ye fookin dirtbird! Over here, cunt!”
>>
>>33870740

The beast turned around fully, holding a clawed hand in front of its face to see into the light. A single gunshot rang out, followed by a near simultaneous meaty thunk as a slug hit the creature square in the chest. Its limbs jerked and went rigid all of a sudden, like a delayed reaction, and it feel forward in a heap, a horrible gurgling sound rattling from its throat as it died.

As Dave and Chris stood there dumbfounded, the mysterious newcomer approached the doorway, an almost pure black silhouette against the blinding white light, carrying a rifle of some sort slung over the shoulder. The figure made a motion with one hand as if crossing itself, and muttered quiet prayer.

When finished, the figure turned its attention to the duo. “Well, what is it?” it asked in a borderline hostile tone. “Are the pair of ya thick? Not even gonna thank me?”

“Uh… I… th-thank you?” Dave managed to stammer out, which seemed to satisfy their savior.

“Warn’t so hard, were it? Come outside with me, I’ll turn off the floodlight. And pull up yer bleedin’ pants, woman.”

Chris’s face turned beet red when she realized her jeans were hanging around her ankles. She hastily pulled them back up and buttoned them.

They stepped over the large furry corpse and out into the parking lot, into the blasting wind and chilly air. Dave pulled his partner close to keep her warm. He felt her trembling, and wondered whether it was from the cold or from the adrenaline.

The floodlight dimmed out, and by degrees the pair regained their night vision, seeing their savior in a bit more detail in the pale light of a full moon.

He was a tall and lanky man approaching the older end of middle-aged, clean shaven with a sharp buzz cut and thick glasses balanced on his nose. He had on a leather jacket and worn out slacks, and a white clerical collar around his neck.

“Me name’s Adam,” he said, his Irish accent dense as a brick and unapologetic. “And I’m assumin’ the two of ye are the gimps I’ve been waiting for?”

“I’m Dave,” said Dave, “and this is Chris, my partner.”

Adam scoffed. “She’s yer partner, I’ll bet. I heard the two of ye sinning under the Lord’s sight from out here in the fookin’ carpark.”

Chris hid her face behind her hands, burning up with embarrassment.

“You were spying on us?” asked Dave, tone incredulous.

“It warn’t spyin’, ya daft bastard, it were reconnoitering. That’s Frog for makin’ sure you bleedin’ tools were the hoonters I sent fer and not just a set of helpless tourists. And from the fight ye put up, seems like yer the former. And ye should be grateful besides. I saved yer skins, didn’t I?”

are you going to outline the project via e-mail? perhaps it might be a better idea to elucidate it here on the thread so we would at least know?
>>
>>33871315
True. Long story short it's a first person Fallout MMO built in the Unreal Engine. much of it is still placeholder but we've got quite a bit of it outlined, and the engine/server components work well so far. I can update you more over discord, if you want to add me.

I believe it has something to do with the fact that they know that you'll be on the second flight much earlier. For instance, if I book a flight for Saturday, the 23rd of December, and come back on the 31st, then the trip is 1239 on Delta and Air France, but a one-way is 1278 because I would have to book it with Republic Airlines as American Eagle, and then twice with TAP Portugal.

Other enlisted:
Two [2] squad automatic gunners
Kaznosky, Kazimir
Uskov, Artyom
Three [3] riflemen
Shchepkin, Katya
Yakimenko, Abram
Khalturin, Yuri

A helicopter was en-route, a path having been cleared for airspace and the MI-24D making its way through the province. Rotors beat against the wind, the sound of its reverberations filling the group with hope as the HIND came close. A single red flare was used to highlight their position for the gunship, Annushka watching as it set down. The team was anxious as they watched the gunship set down. Artyom and Kazimir would pick their fallen friend up, carefully carrying him to the helicopter before they heard a round strike metal. The crack of gunfire was apparent, the rest of the team crouching down and setting up a perimeter. The body was loaded onto the chopper before it was waved off by the squad leader.
>>
>>33874494
ManPAADS were fired off, rocket streaking through the air towards the gunship, which would deploy flares to wave the warheads off. Engines heated up and their last hope of leaving was gone, flying away with the dead. “Chopper’s clear! Give them hell!”
The two gunners were back on their PKPs, bipods being deployed and muzzles breathing fire, singing the grass in front of the pair as they opened up on the enemy. 19 year old Katya finally understood the term ‘firefight’. Her blue eyes wide as she sat behind cover, watching from the side. There was nothing but flashes. Orange and bright, muzzles turning cherry-red as they heated up under the building temperature of their barrels. Rounds struck the dirt in front of her and she snapped to attention.
The girl would check her 74, ensuring a round was chambered and quickly popped out from cover, firing a burst into the trees and hearing the scream of a man. She was unsure how to feel, despite this being her second strike mission with these… People. Their brutality left a rather sour taste in her mouth, but, orders were orders, and to get the education she wanted, she needed the money and experience. Another burst was sent into the forest, a voice coming onto her radio: “Pull back, we need to evade them.” Annushka was recalling them? Strange, usually that woman strove for situations like this, against them.
“Roger,” replied Katya, quickly moving into a crouch and sprinting towards where her teammates were stood. The raven haired leader was looking at a compass, pointing towards the northwest. “We’re going to try and get to the border. Its sealed off, but with enough travel and stealth, we can survive.” Abram cut in, looking distressed as they were handed a new plan. “Why? What about the other team?”
>>
>>33874505
“Theres not enough time and we don’t have enough firepower to meet up with them. I hate to say it, but we need to leave them. We’ll leave a message saying that we’ve left. If they find it, they’ll know why.”

No one enjoyed hearing the truth, Annushka knew that. But, it was the only way to keep on the level of her squadmates. They trusted her, right? She wasn’t out to kill them, in fact, her plans were carefully calculated, contingencies drawn up for each situation and variable. The uncertainty they displayed though… It was wreaking havoc on her mind. “I didn’t want it to come to this, but I want to see you all live out your future. You all had plan that weren’t dying in this god-forsaken region, so, unless you want to risk your life saving a team that may or not be dead, then follow me.”
Of course, no one objected, confirming Annushka’s suspicions that they trusted her, or, had no choice in the matter. “Thought so, lets go.” To which, the leader would jog into the shade on the trees ahead, away from the insurgents. The rest of her team took a minute before following behind, having no other option.
