I personally don't give as much of a fuck about stolen valor. I don't feel like it takes away from anyone with a military history or prevents me from respecting vets. It's just more of a cultural problem we have with assholes.

What I don't like is that this is fraud. Plain and simple. This guy should be in jail for building a career based on credentials he does not have. He should be subject to a massive lawsuit for the entire 20 years of his career from everyone he fucked over, and his life should be ruined on this alone.

Not particularly. I'm a member of the Special Forces Club in London. When I joined, which is a long time ago, there were many people there that shouldn't have been. Admittedly, everyone had some formed of service but there were a lot of hangers on and women that had wormed their way in despite it originally being a very difficult club to join. That number has only risen since then, to the point where I no longer attend out of principle.

There are lots of people out there who embellish their careers and exaggerate feats. It isn't just the preserve of those with genuine fantasy, lots do it who have a loose connection.

The reaction, you would be surprised to know, is often very muted. Few care.
