well its not like there where ever any pouches designed for them, and the metal belt hooks fell out of use by WWII.

Honestly I have no idea how german soldiers tolerated carrying those things. Maybe they didn't, which is why you never see pictures of soldiers with them it seems. I'd toss them out on a long march.
