Again, 9mm doesn't have much taper and they are perfectly capable of working in 30+ rd straight mags. There are plenty of 9mm SMGs out there with straight mags.

A loaded 45 magazine functions better as an emergency bludgeon for when you run out of your limited ammo, whereas the 9mm is for spear chuckers and can be thrown like a boomerang.
