I don't normally post here but so thought you lot would be the place to go for this.
I'm a young fag going to college next year, my friend is enlisting in the Army after graduation, I was talking to him and he suggested that I look into joining the reserves while in College. Would this be a good idea?
Pros that I see:
>military training
>relatively light commitment
>tuition aid
Possible cons:
>commitment
I'd really like to hear some input on this, is joining the US army reserves while in college a good idea?
Deoends on your MOS, but they fucking love to deploy reservists.
Love to. Deploy.
Otherwise, pick a job with a license or certification and a bonus. My fellow nurses got a bonus and their LPN license, then went on to make twice as much as me civilian side.
If I git married and BAH I'd be winning, but im too old for that.

You get BAH as a reservist or did I misread that

Sorry for being such a fag, but I'm a bit ignorant on these terms
>BAH
>MOS
>deploy
I have no problem with killing gooks

>basic allowance for housing
>military occupational specialty
>it actually isn't 1968 currently
>>33845420
>MOS
Ok, so what's a good MOS? I'd like to drive a tank, do Calvary or infantry, are those good?
>not 1968 yet
Yea, I'm confident there won't be any wars ATM

Lmao, pick something useful for when you get out. Go logistics.
>>33845496
Can you tell me a bit about logistics and what they entail? Are you talking about picking up a trade in the army like an electrician?
>>33845546
He basically means anything that goes beyond pulling a trigger or blowing stuff up. That stuff may be fun but it isn't marketable in the civilian world. You will also hate your life doing it during peacetime because you'll be sweeping and cleaning toilets with no enemy to destroy.

I'm talking about doing Army reserves while in College, presumably I'd have a college degree as well by doing this

And this is an opportunity to get experience in a related field that your degree is in. A college degree is not worth as much as it used to be. I don't know what your field is but most "entry level" jobs want experience.
That said, do whatever tf you want
