Heavily considering
>Smith and Wesson Victory model
>Colt New Service
>Colt M1917
>Smith and Wesson M1917

Luke warm on (Cause .44 special is more expensive).
>Smith and Wesson Triple Lock

Less than luke warm on (Cause cool as fuck but how can I get ammo?)
>Webley any variant
>Enfield No 2

Fuck no tier
>Enfield MK I
>Enfield MK II
>Hand Nugget
>>

The Colt and Smith M1917's are quite nice but I find my Webley Mark VI is much more pleasant to shoot.

The .38 Enfield and Webley revolvers are also very nice and you can feed them run-of-the-mill .38 S&W though the sights are set for 178gr bullets.

Enfield No1 revolvers are scarce and expensive enough I doubt you'll be tempted by one but they can fire the same ammunition as the .455 revolvers.
>>
>>33828415
No risk of them blowing up with .38 special?

You can't fit .38 Special in a Webley or Enfield chamber - the case is much longer than .38 S&W.
>>
>>33828658
Won't take 38 special. 38 S&W has almost no recoil, low report and accurate to shoot.

pic related if you want something truly special snowflake
if not get a basic bitch model 10
>>
Get the Victory, if only because spare parts and people who actually know how to work on the gun are everywhere in case something goes wrong. Finding people who know how to fix a Python is already hard enough, to say nothing of someone who knows how to work on something like a New Service from literally 100 years ago.

1) What is that

2) What is an average price for a model 10?
>>
>>33830055
Not that guy but:

1. >filename

2. You can get a bog-standard police trade-in Model 10 for right around $300 all over the place. You may be able to get one for less by visiting a pawn shop, and you may have to spend more if you want one that's in very nice condition or that has desirable markings like NYPD or Victory or something. Either way, it's money well-spent; the Model 10 is an amazing revolver.

an m1917 .45 ACP revolver, they will be pretty expensive though

model 10s were used throughout ww2, but you'll have a much easier and cheaper time finding a model 10 from the 70s or 80s then a specific model 10 from the 30s or 40s. You can say you at least have a type of gun that was used in ww2 but wont be a specific gun that was.
its like buying a modern GI 1911 vs buying a real ww2 era colt

Webley Mk VI, shaved.
Handloading is sexy as fuck, and it's a better target pistol than a fucking .22 if you do things right.

I was never a .45 person in any way having shot 1911s and hated them.
But I bought it on a whim and it's currently my favorite pistol (the runner up being a Luger owned by a relative of mine)

Oh, also, any old wheelgun in .45 will do nicely.
They're pure sex held in your hand, friend.

Get a Gasser 1898. They're a goofy but interesting wheelgun. A lot more comfortable in the hand than you'd think.

And Fiocchi still makes 8mm Gasser, weirdly.

Fiocchi still makes 7.5 Swiss Ordnance as well, but none is imported into the US. I bought a box from Graf's back in 2009 and I've never seen another.

You can hand load .455 loads in .45 ACP or (more conveniently) .45 Auto Rim cases.
>>
>>33827613
>>Colt M1917
>>Smith and Wesson M1917
Look anon, i like them. They are cool and interesting but no one ever tells you how big the fucking gun is. Unless you are of the hickock45 breed the gun will be uncomfortable to shoot. In single action the gun is fine but akward to hold, in Double action the gun is so fucking big and akward that it kinda hurts to shoot it rapidly if not a single one at a time.

I love it but its no fun to shoot.
>>
>>33839740
I hear .45 LC is one of the best to make .455 Webley from.
>>
>>33828770
Do you have any info on the testin they did to switch over from .455 to .38? Always seemed odd to me to go for something smaller but also heavy and slow compared to standard loadings at the time.
>>
>>33840057
If it's unshaved you'll need to thin the rim with some kind of jig or lathe which is a bitch.

It was probably the nonce cavalry that suggested it.

it's pretty hilarious how obsolete the RR was. S&W made a double action .44 russian top-break in the same time period.

The cartridge was really a byproduct of the size of revolver the War Office desired. By the end of WWI the .455 revolvers were considered ungainly and American police experience suggested a .38 caliber revolver was a suitable replacement.

Webley & Scott was already producing a smaller-frame .38 caliber top break, the 'Mark III'. In 1922 this revolver was refined into the .38 caliber Mark IV. They presented this revolver to the War Office and were requested to provide '300 rounds of what you consider the most effective ammunition'.

Since the cylinder length of the Mark IV prohibited the use of the .38 Special cartridge so the .38 S&W was retained. The .38-200 cartridge was designed by Webley & Scott and Kynoch to fit that request. It mated a 200gr lead bullet with the .38 S&W case. This gave a muzzle velocity of 630 fps with a bullet which yawed and somersaulted after target impact.

Though I don't have info about the specific testing readily available, the Small Arms Committee expressed confidence with the stopping power of the new cartridge and it was officially adopted as the .380 Revolver Mark I.

Note that the .380 Revolver was handicapped when the 178gr jacketed bullet was introduced with the Mark II load. This bullet did not deform and was much less likely to tumble than the older, heavier 200gr load.
>>
>>33840057
I load mine in Hornady and Fiocchi .455 cases. The only difference between the two is primer pocket size.
>>
>>33840063
I think the idea of the .38/200 was that the bullet would tumble on impact, doing comparable damage to the .455. It would also be a lighter gun with less recoil.
>>
>>33827613
>Luke warm on (Cause .44 special is more expensive).

Pretty scarce, but you may come across a converted .455 -> .45ACP Triple Lock.

That would be a neat gun to have.

Usually go for much more then that maybye 600-1200 depending on markings and condition.

>>
>>33840357
Colt couldn't make 1911's fast enough for demands and this was easier to make on existing revolver tooling

>8 rounds semi auto
except at least 1 branch had their troops carry their 1911s without a round in the chamber, and the mags downloaded one as to not wear the spring.
