1. buy whole chicken, skin on
2. pat dry chicken skin with paper towels
3. rub chicken with stick of butter, mix egg and flour, and corn meal to make batter, roll chicken in batter
4. heat roughly 1/2 gallon of vegetable oil in kettle

>>33818494

I feel like that's a bit of obsessiveness with the luxury of a range/safe queen. Not insulting you because I am the same way, I just imagine those who have to use their gun on a more regular basis (even if use is simply just carry it on their person) it starts to lose that need for perfectionism.

I don't get why I am so compulsive with oiling and cleaning my 226 because it's got parkerizing finish that those older guns never had (or had worse versions of) and they didn't need to be oiled to hell and back.

>he doesnt hope one day after cleaning his rifles will transform into cute waffegiest girls

>>
>>33818373
You just gotta accept the fact that they don't have to be 100% spotless. It used to take me just as long as you described, but I've cut myself down to about 45 minutes per gun.
>>
>>33817787
>break down rifle
>spray moving parts with ballistol or some other CLP
>let them sit for a bit
>run bore snake through barrel a couple times
>put back together

It's like 10 minutes of labor and a total of 20 minutes.
>>
>>33818392
I had a little gunsmithing "business" as a teenager: I'd clean guns, refinish stocks, mount scopes, ect for my dad's friends for 20 to 40 bucks a pop.

My mom even printed me business cards, which I didn't appreciate her thoughtfulness until about ten years later.
>>
>there are faggots in this thread RIGHT NOW that don't semi-regularly disassemble their magazines to relieve spring decompression
>>
>>33818373
It can take me that long to do just the barrel.

First I send a wet brush down the barrel from chamber to muzzle. Then I run a wet patch through and let it sit for 30 minutes - 1 hour.
Then I run wet patches through until they come out clean, then dry patches until it comes out dry. If there's still grey on the dry patches, I repeat the cycle starting from wet patches again until the dry patches come out as clean as possible.

Is this the right way to clean or is this overkill/am I going to damage something?

That's not hard to do. I just take it apart and lay all the parts on the ground, scrub it with a shop broom, then reassemble and just dip it in pic related. Now it's clean and lubed up.

My collection is mostly slavshit & military rifles in general because I hate having to clean my guns any more than I have to. And when I do clean them, I want it to be easy to get things back together.
That's always a big part of my criteria before buying something; is it easy or hard to break down and clean?

This is what I like about military weapons and old milsurp shit. Most of it is just like 3 or 4 parts that are easy enough to take apart and put back together that could have down syndrome and still do it blindfolded.

Not him, but: I prefer maintaining my car as well, but even shit like an oil change is cheaper at a shop than doing myself after buying good oil and a nice filter.

Or did I fall for the automotive jew?
>>
>>33823988
Not the guy you replied to, but it's cheaper to get an oil change done at a shop because they buy basic bitch motor oil by the drum and inexpensive filters by the case. At least, that's what it's like at my local shops.

This. Cleaning isn't bad if you aren't going for spotless but rifle barrels are always a pain in the ass.
>>

>>
I fucking hate cleaning because I really don't have much room in my garage so I'm always afraid I'll knock shit over. I would clean in my house, but I have dogs and I don't want my entire house smelling like hoppes
bonus points for the fact that the garage is totally non-ventilated unless I open the door which I can't do in winter cause it's fucking cold, so I get hoppes-high a lot.
shit sucks man.
>>
I completely strip my rifles and clean them spotless. Its about a 2 hour process depending on the gun. I HATE cleaning my mausers because the barrel bands are damn near impossible to take off.

I'm more likely to clean mags before guns. Carry handgun mags are cleaned once a month, rifle mags every 3 or untill gritty or causing failures. Most of my rifles I do not clean the bores untill accuracy suffers, or after corrosive ammo. I tend to have big events where all my frends shoot my guns, thats when they get really cleaned and lubed, but I have help for that.

When you lube a part, do you guys wipe it down? Or are you supposed to leave it all greasy? I coat my SKS bolt in CLP after every range trip, let it sit for about 2 hours, and then wipe it down with paper towels. Is that a good way to do it?
>>

Spongefag here. Yes you fell for the autojew, but that's not the crux of my point. That fag was arguing against basic maintenance under the guise of 'it's not worth your time'...for a largely recreational hobby...posted on a danish wood polishing forum. It's not about the cost necessarily, (although depending on the task and you skills/tools available it could be), it's about doing what's beneficial for your toys while still enjoying doing it. I used autos to example/contrast how much of a faggot he is, here are some more:
>why brush your teeth, they won't fall out for like 20 years, is your time worthless?
>why fuck your wife, tyrome will do it for you, is your time worthless?
>>
>>33818436
>not Rockyknoll nigger

>>
I bet you faggots don't even lick them clean.
>>
>>33826832
Thats one thing i never understood when people make the "My time is worth money!" argument, I understand at your JOB when or when you are ACTIVELY WORKING, skipping out to do something else is stupid, but everyone has downtime, everyone has time when they arent working, or at the very least people eventually hit the maximum number of hours they want to work for the week and have an amount of free time to do other things.

In my free time if I can do an activity to save money thats great, im not losing money by changing my own oil or reloading bullets because im spending time I could/should be working making money, i spend the time I have free to save a little bit more.

I think the whole argument is based of a "by the hour" mindset where they think there is just limitless work to be done and doing any money saving activity instead of working is a waste, but when your self employed or something similar eventually you get diminishing returns.

That and doing it yourself makes it easy to do other things and save even more money. Ive saved like 2 grand this last year on mechanics work, by doing it myself.

Exactly. If it's your freetime, then being happy AND productive/cost effective is just a win/win. If you don't enjoy the maintenance, sure you could make the argument it's not worth your time, especially if you're not actively getting something (like being paid) out of it. But that's exactly why that guy is a faggot, he doesn't enjoy the nitty gritty of his hobbies, and he uses it as justification for his lax maintenance practices. Double whammy of a faggot if you ask me.

Fucking serious. Even if you discount all the savings and enjoyment and actual knowledge of your firearm or car or ammunition, it is a skill that you can do and do easily if you are in a situation where you cant pay some guy to do it for you.

I dont know how many times ive seen some sad fucker on the side of the road waiting for a tow because he cant change a fucking tire. I used to clean my guns to within an inch of their lives as if a fucking Gunny Sergeant were going to burst in and hold an inspection. Fucking nonsense.

Now I just run a brush with CLP down the bore a few times, scrub everything with an AP brush and more CLP, push a few patches on a jag out the bore, hose everything down with brake cleaner, and then relube with CLP on an old 1" chip brush.

Seriously, the 1" chip brush has to be the best lubrication delivery system since the vagina.Try it.
