post more?
and why would the ammo bearer be way over there?

to spread out your base of fire

>to the flank
I'm guessing so he can keep an eye on their flanks while he's not bearing ammo?
>>33817697
Possibly so that he can have a fighting position on the flank. IDK, just a guess.

>bring ammo to machine gunner
>move back to his spot
>provide suppressing fire while machine gunner reloads
it's that simple, two targets instead of one.

On top of covering the flank which has already been mentioned, you also want your troops spread out in general, artillery is a wholesale killer so having your troops packed together like sardines is an invitation to getting your whole unit wiped out.

really thinking about it, how fucked do you really think you're going to be if you actually had to use the grenade sump?
>>33817501
I dug one of those a while back. The design works well, but a three man crew could get it practically set up compared to one breaking his back.

I was thinking about that too. If done right, and if a grenade fell in there, I think it would actually help out a lot. A lot of the shrapnel that would otherwise go sideways would go into the dirt or side of the sump. I would still be scared shitless though.

The deeper the sump, the more protection it provides. It would likely not be a pleasant experience though.

Presumably you would also attempt to kick a live grenade into the sump too.
