Could you outfit a platoon with exclusively FN SCARs and the variants?
I'm talking along the lines of:
>Riflemen: SCAR-L with or without some 40mm grenade launcher assembly
>Designated marksmen: SCAR H with bipod and higher powered optics
>Sniper: SCAR-H TPR/PR with bipod and higher powered optics
>Squad automatic weapon: FN HAMR with drum magazines & bipod

Is a universal platform a good or bad idea? I imagine a belt-fed option might be a better choice for the squad automatic weapon, but I'm not sure.
Have many militaries done this historically or currently with success?
>>
>>33808483
no point in doing it. SCARs don't do anything that ARs don't do better for less $$$. also, ARs are inherently more accurate in the free floating barrel/low pro gas block variant.
>>
>>33808483
overpriced fn scar is never a good idea hahahahhaa
>>
>>33808545
What's your opinion on gas impingement vs piston impingement?
How would you compare an AR15 to a Piston Impingement variant (i.e. HK416/417?)
>>
>>33808545

>>33808483
The only advantage the SCAR family has over any M4/M16 variant is that the short stroke piston, which allows it to run dirtier for longer. The reason any soldier would choose a SCAR over an AR is the option listed above, and the purpose built 7.62 variant and its ability to increase standoff distance between combatants.
One of the biggest complaints about the M4 is not the gun, but the round. 5.56 simply lacks enough energy to be as accurate and letha as a 7.62 at ranges beyond 400m, at least in the hands of a typical soldier.
>>
>>33808592
>What's your opinion on gas impingement vs piston impingement?

I don't see a problem with DI ARs which are gassed correctly. Obviously you can fuck it up but that's not the yardstick which to apply here since one can reasonably make the assumption that a government contract for a gun would find 200k$$$ to make exhaustive tests for how to gas the gun with.

>How would you compare an AR15 to a Piston Impingement variant (i.e. HK416/417?)

I wouldn't touch HK if my life depended on it.

>>33808598
FN pls go.
>>
>>33808598
but.. he isnt.
>>
>>33808620
nah, 5.56 is lethal at up to 600 yards in the right loading. It's just the military uses literally the worst loading ever developed, M855. Thank good the A1 fixes its problems.
>>
>>33808620
This is why I'd imagine that there'd be at least two 7.62mm variants in a rifle section in order to engage at longer distance, in addition to automatic fire from the SAW.
I still imagine 5.56mm is better for the rest of the section due to the lighter weight and lower recoil.
Reminder 5.56mm is nearly half the weight of 7.62mm round for round.
>>
>>33808686
well yeah, the DMR and the GPMG.
>>
>>33808707
Yeah that's what I was getting at.
I think outfitting a platoon with only 5.56 is kinda retarded for multi-role efficiency
>>
>>33808680
I guess I should specify that a 5.56 fired from a 14.5 inch barrel on an M4. The 18 inch barrel on the Navy M16 and 20 inch barrel on Marines M16 is quite capable of killing at 600m. But that takes a hell of a marksman to make an accurate 600m shot.

Can you actually explain said design advantages with scientific principles backed by engineering math? Or are you just using terms you cannot explain? I'm thinking the latter.
>>
>>33809404
So what you're basically saying is that you're taking a contrarian position to me because I'm "worthless". What expertise do you hold on the subject of the SCAR and the AR?

Post timestamped pictures of your guns. I want to know how far removed one can be from a subject he professes expertise in while still claiming said expertise.

I'm guessing I'll be waiting for a long time.
>>
>>33809437

Don't flatter yourself with this contrarianism whine. Your claims are worthless because they are plainly so.

>Post timestamped pictures of your guns

Gun ownership is not a prerequisite for a critique of your worthless claims of scientific authority. By parity of logic, Dan Bilzerian should be the chief designer at HK.

you're, once again, confirmed for a nogun faggot. MilSpec ARs are MilSpec for a reason. There is something called a MATERIAL CALLOUT SHEET. You realize there were roughly 5 decades between the conception of the AR and the conception of the SCAR, right? Don't use words you don't understand. The military spec is hardly cutting edge. Age of design implies older designs are inherent inferior; a laughable assumption.

>>
>>33809663
he thinks ARs are superior because he's a poorfag and likes to buy tons of $300 reddit walmart ARs instead of having the foresight to buy fewer higher quality guns.

he thinks the fact that autistic $2000+ ar15 builds existing out there that are "better" than a SCAR somehow causes ALL ar15s to be better than a SCAR. he unironically believes that his and all his reddit buddies M&P 15s are therefore better than your SCAR because there exists a ar15 that can outperform a SCAR in a given scenario (read: this is retarded).

>>
>>33809718
>understand the significance of MilSpec

The significance is that it is textbook example of "good enough". You should know this if you had the slightest understanding of the what and why of that specification, but you obviously don't, so you capitalize the word to emphasize its supposed importance and call others dumb. Standard "mount stupid" behavior.

Do you? I mean, really know, as in, the multi-faceted stresses of AR bolt operation necessitating that choice. Maybe you can use that as a starting point to explain your preference for a SCAR.

Or more likely, that's just a phrase you read online so you throw it around to sound authoritative.

Yes. It was originally Stoner's idea to chamber his rifle in 7.62, but the Army was still fielding the M14, which had been battle-tested and relatively well liked.
The SCAR is much lighter than an AR-10, allowing that saved weight to be exchanged for additional ammunition.

By the way, the best Battle Rifle ever, in my opinion, is the FN FAL. No SCAR, 417, G3, M14, or AR-10 is as awesome as the FAL

so there are a couple fallacies from your post.

1) GovContract cost for SCAR is significantly cheaper than civilian sale MSRP, while an AR is, well, quite a bit more expensive in the 7.62 variety

2) your building anything is really not relevant to the discussion. How do you provide warranty and after sale support? How do you support a logistics chain? Military procurement isn't just about the gun, but about the lifecycle.

If you want a fair comparison, compare a SCAR H to an LMT MWS or an M110.

Here's a pro tip: your think that a modern military AR performs at the same level as a SCAR in the field for prolonged periods of time is fucking asinine, and you are a god damn moron for believing that.

And I never dinged you for the nighthawk since I have no experience with it. I did have an STI dvc open, but I sold it.

Why don't you post a pic of a modern service rifle that you own?
>>
>>33815474

You have every right to say anything you want, of course. But calling people poorfag or attributing your firearm knowledge to your fiscal status I don't agree with whatsoever.
I'm not exactly broke lol. Doesn't mean I should shut my ears off to even a guy behind a gun store counter who might know what he's talking about if given a chance.
There are autists on this board who've never touched a gun in their lives who do nothing but sit in their crusties eating tendies and doing inadvertent research that certainlyshouldn't be dismissed on grounds of their lack of wealth.
All's I'm saying.
>DD5 price

Right after you agree to post your undergrad diploma after I post mine. Please try reading. You have 15 minutes to agree before I leave the house.

>You have 15 minutes to agree

holy shit lol

>you have no subject matter expertise

well yes, i am not an expert. i do set a high bar though. then again, i haven't made any outlandish, unbacked claims like you did, so its your own claimed expertise that is in question.

lets remember that your initial claim to expertise is owning said rifles, and shooting classes with them. talk about a self-inflicted btfo.
>>
>>33815536
>I did read it.
I am loath to point out that there are multiple posters in this thread, but perhaps a gentle reminder is needed. Only thing I said was "not in the same league".

>But calling people poorfag or attributing your firearm knowledge to your fiscal status I don't agree with whatsoever.
There is a positive correlation between income and education, between education and intelligence, and between intelligence and mental acuity.

>There are autists on this board who've never touched a gun in their lives who do nothing but sit in their crusties eating tendies and doing inadvertent research that certainlyshouldn't be dismissed on grounds of their lack of wealth.
Absolutely false. That's like someone going to a class action litigation lawyer, and the lawyer saying "I've never won or even filed a class action suit, but I spend all my spare (read, UNEMPLOYED) time on the local lawyer forum reading about them. I even go to my alma mater's law library sometimes to brush up on the subject." Would you hire someone like that?

Let me tell you how I operate. I assume the lowest applicable human denominator until proven otherwise. Why waste my time fact checking what is most likely garbage when I can just ignore it? There is a reason why there are degrees, certifications, and PEDIGREE. It's to signal an accepted level of standard. When I'm not presented with such on this cesspool that is 4chan, and given the correlation between income and intelligence and knowledge, why should I waste my time by giving someone the benefit of the doubt?

If it's important to me, I do my own analysis. If it's not, I don't give a fuck .

And let's be honest here, deep down, we all come here troll. We all come here to do things that are not socially acceptable in our real and professional lives. I don't go telling clients they're dumb fucks, but if I see them here, I'll give them a piece of my mind.
>>

> i haven't made any outlandish, unbacked claims like you did
