M1911 vs Glock 17

go
>>
Glock is lighter weight, more reliable, more capacity and cheaper.

Hard choice right ?
>>
XD
>>
>>33804929
Neither, both are good.
>>
>>33804942
WTF I hate 1911's now
>>
>>33804942
WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THIS
>>
>>33804982
1911s are fun but for practicality and objective usefulness Glock dominates them.
>>
>>33804929
Why are we comparing an entire brand name to an individual gun?
>>
> comparing one gun made by many companies to a gun company
>>
the 1911 has much higher damage, but the glock has a higher clip capacity and critical hit ratio.
>>
always found the 17 kind of pointless. If i want a full sized 9mm handgun weight is the least of my concerns. I want something that's ergonomic and has a nice trigger and nice sights, none of which glocks have. I'd only buy a full sized glock in .40, .45 or 10mm. otherwise I'd go with a Sig or a Beretta. Yeah I know I could rice out a glock but it ends up costing more to do so then just getting a gun with 3 dot sights and a not shitty trigger.
>>
1911 guns are the most unergonomic guns ever designed. It's like holding onto the side of a picture frame. Totally impractical.
>>
>>33804942
Don't forget more options in terms of calibers and magazines, as well as a metric shit ton more aftermarket parts.
>>
1911's are reliable, beautiful, single stacked for lighter frame and have a powerful round.

Glock 19's are accurate, have a larger capacity, more modern and cheaper.

It really just depends on what gun you need for the job. A tactical infiltration will use a Glock 19 but home defense a 1911. There's really no need to compare these guns since they both serve their own purpose.

>>
>>33805223
Different guy but I have big hands and the 1911 feels like shit to me, I don't get why people love it so much, the grip-safety is superfluous, the slide release is tiny
>>
>>33804929
M1911

+easily can be field stripped with no tools involved
+plenty of aftermarket parts
+iconic
+feels good in the hand
+fairly cheap
-expensive if it's a specialty item
-generally single stack
-the ones that are double stack tend to be pricier than double stack Glocks
-not exactly fun to CC
-slide stop on the left side
+-heavy, sufficient for smacking someone over the head
+-exposed hammer

Glock

+cheap
+huge aftermarket parts and guns
+generally double stack
+can come in double stack
+generally more reliable
-plastic
-uncomfortable at times
-kinda ugly
+-light
+-hammerless

Here's Hickok45's opinion.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly5UnR7pPtk
>>
>>33804942
From a purely tactical stand point, glock wins. The only real advantage the 1911 has is a larger caliber. However, the 1911 is a proven platform, and depending who you ask, looks better.
>>
>>33805282
Why do people keep posting Hickock like he's some arbiter of objective truth? He has been objectively wrong on at least one occasion I can think of off the top of my head and he doesn't even legitimately review firearms.
>>
>>33805270
The 1911 safety feels just about right for me.

The slide release isn't so much tiny as it is so forward that you have to squeeze your hand into the grip to release the slide. It wears on your hand (thumb muscles especially) unless you can shoot left handed or ambidextrously.
>>
>>33805270

>grip safety is superflous
>trigger safey isnt

Glockfags please.
>>
>>33805293
The same reason we use Ian for historical stuff. He's kind of the universal grandpa who'll tell you stories, and is somewhat comfy.

He's also pretty tall, if that helps any.
>>
>>33805270

Also, glocks have the ergonomics of a plastic 2X4. The 1911 is at least somewhat refined and customizable in terms of grip panels, backstraps, etc.
>>
>>33805324
Trigger safety is just a drop safety.

>>33805331
Ian is actually pretty knowledgeable on historical guns though.
>>
>>33805343
The trigger safe blocks the hammer from moving with sufficiently. Stop shitposting.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJhv0ttFXs4
>>
>>33805392
Why did you link me this retard? All I said was the Glock trigger safety is a drop safety.
>>
>>33805337
>>33805324
I never defended the Glock or said it was amazing, I dislike it's trigger a lot. I don't really like the trigger safety they do, but it's a viable way to have a safety.

I just feel that having more than one safety is just superfluous, grip safeties are for open bolt subguns.

This thread again?
It'll likely not come to a decisive conclusion, just like Sega Genesis vs SNES, because there's fanboyism on both sides (among other things, lack of experience and personal preferences included). Both guns have their upsides and drawbacks, just depends on what you want/need.

adjective
adjective: antiquated

old-fashioned or outdated.

we are all aware of the, "quirks" of the aging 1911 platform, and that you have to put about $100 worth of perts and gunsmitithing into an original GI style gun in order for it to run fast and reliable like a modern pistol. they are typically only available in .45, and special snowflake calibers that reduce the reliability. they are heavy. they have shitty sights. can you even get night sights? the list goes on. don't get me wrong, i love the history, and the form factor as much as the next red-blooded american, but the just cannot compete with a modern pistol in a practical sense.

Be better to compare period correct weapons, i.e. "1911vsP-08" or "G17vs92FS"
>>

Do you actually think that google link in any way contradicts anything we told you, or somehow proves your point?
Just go back to google and looks it up if you want. JMB sold the rights to Colt, and had to work around the 1911 patents when making the hi power. It's a well documented fact, that you should easily be able to find.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browning_Hi-Power

>FN commissioned John Browning to design a new military sidearm conforming to this specification. Browning had previously sold the rights to his successful M1911 U.S. Army automatic pistol to Colt's Patent Firearms, and was therefore forced to design an entirely new pistol while working around the M1911 patents. Browning built two different prototypes for the project in Utah and filed the patent for this pistol in the United States on June 28, 1923, granted on February 22, 1927.[5][6]
