Whatever happened to this gun? Was it not effective or accurate enough? Did it not handle well? Was it ergonomically awkward? Was the caseless ammunition bad or not perfected? Was it too far ahead of its time?
>>
>>33802707
It was expensive as fuck and the loss of the soviet threat shrunk the defense budget of west germany so it was canceled

>caseless ammo
>still has to carry a box to charge weapon
>its not plug and play
Its HK at it again that was it is.
>>
Gun is fine. the problem is that West Germany had to pay for reunification and bringing East Germany up to their level.

So the expensive wundestrumurhwerkrgewehr had to go. In favor of the cheaper plastic ar18 copy the G36.
>>
>>33802794
you seen how ammo for the M16/M4 comes?

wood crate
2 reusable ammo cans
fabric bandoleers
cardboard boxes
stripper clips
speed loaders to use the stripper clips
>>
>>33802707
By using caseless ammo it would overheat easily.
>>
>>33802707
>Was the caseless ammunition bad or not perfected?
that too caseless ammo has many issues it creates as many problems as it solves if not more, also expensive.

think about what you get with a g11 as a soldier. 50 round magazine that is lighter but much more awkward than a 30 round stanag. with replacing said magazine also being more awkward than a conventional or bullpup. does the extra 20 rounds really worth that hassle?
>>
>>33802707
After reunification the prices for fairy dust went through the roof and without fairy dust the G11 has heat problems.
>>
>>33802871
brass removes minimal amount of heat with it it's not a real issue. real issue is the sealing problem the auto-ignition problem removal problems the moisture problem, etc...

in the field wouldn't you have had loaded mags at the ready on your kit, and up to 3 in the racks on the fore-end of the gun?

how front heavy were these cunts fully loaded?
>>
>>33802901
I fail to see how the mags are awkward. Adequate training would fix any unfamiliarity issues, and the dimensions aren't far off from SMG stick-mags so storage/carry isn't going to be an issue we haven't dealt with before. I'd rather take the option for more ammo than less, and I'd rather take the option for less weight than more. G11 gives me both.
>>
now I'm wondering what would happen to some random Klaus on the front if they took a tracer through the magazines. I imagine 3 magazines cooking off in front of your face doesn't tickle.
>>
>>33802969
The dark-matter needed for the defranglator in the Fritszmaz-Heimler assembly helps to counter the front-end weight. Seriously though, I'd imagine that giant chunk of clockwork in the stock does a pretty good job of balancing it out.
>>
>>33802991
>I fail to see how the mags are awkward.
they are too long to pocket for instance they are so fucking long it's not even funny. you also load them from the front i mean wtf
>>
>>33802991
patience! the future is caseless ammo for sure but it won't be like the hkg11. it will be electrically ignited hit propellant. you can even configure your firing patterns from your phone i bet. since a micro-controller will do the actual firing the trigger is really just a switch that _enables_ firing assuming all other things check out.

Because issuing long flat magazines has stopped us before. Everyone in WWII issued mags of marginally shorter size, more weight, and less capacity. If it doesn't fit in your pocket, redesign your pockets until it does. As far as the top load, that's still an issue of training and practice. It's different, but it isn't like you need to be a contortionist to put in a new one. Anyone who shoots an AUG once calls it's reload awkward. Anyone who owns an AUG says it's great.

that was always my assumption but the guts don't seem to extend any farther back in the gun than the charging uh, knob? charging hing plate?

like 1/3 of it's length seems to be empty, so I have to imagine that that techno shillelagh that makes up the guts is heavy as hell to counterbalance 3 full magazines with such poor leverage

then again It's all pissing in the wind because I'll never hold one and see for myself

they must leave that out in the promo pictures

Yeah, a handful of them is already on the way to kill you because I told you about them

Wasn't there a problem with moisture fucking up the ammo that they never really solved?

>>

Germans had to feed german commies. Thats the only reason, it was ready for mass production, it was already tested and adopted. Fucking commies.

design a modern day quiver like archers had to carry those long mags. they brought back the zeppelin for surveillance. old ideas aren't bad they just need updating
>>
>>33802707
It was unreliable in field tests. That's about it. Oh, also it was pretty expensive.
>>
>>33804732
Impractical for a combat situation. Can he even sit down while wearing that?
>>
>>33804901
doesn't look that complicated... my fishing spool has more pieces and harder to disassemble than that.
>>
>>33805246
There is at least one lever action that used swapping tubes mechanism for reloading.
Shooters worn cases similar to those used by archers.
This was mentioned with pictures in a Forgotten Weapons video that I can not find for the life of me.
That system is used to this day in competitive shotgun shooting.

>>
I really which caseless ammo took off, imagine how much light weight ammo you could carry, in comparison to 5.56.

>>33805411
Your spool isn't expected to be 100% reliable in battlefield conditions.
