Sup /k/, my best friend's brother recently just bought a Taurus model 66 in .357 magnum and was made in the 1980's with minimal rust on it and everything looks in good condition.

I however hear a pretty shit reputation about Taurus. For example, people question the effectiveness of the Judge, their semi auto pistols, in fact I've seen instances of Taurus pistols discharging just by shaking them, and then Taurus customer service is a joke, i hear it's so bad that it makes Century Arms customer service sound like a godsend.

What's your opinion on Taurus and their products?

OP here, posting the video of an instance of a Taurus 24/7 going off just by shaking it.

I have the pt92 (their flagship) beat to shit but after several thousand rounds its still chugging along. Only a few ftes when I was using steel case and didn't know better.

To be fair most handguns don't work good all the time with steel case ammo.

I have a Taurus Tracker .22LR which is absolutely fine. SA trigger is nice enough. DA is kind of heavy, but what do you expect. Timing is good. Finish is more than acceptable for the price. Front heavy, obviously, but the long sight radius makes it quite easy to shoot accurately. More accurate than I had expected with both standard and high velocity ammo.

I would really not trust any large caliber handguns though.

I have a PT111 G2 and it's my carry gun. No issues at all after two years. Everybody who badmouths them is just noise to me, and zero fucks are given.
>>
A general rule for taurus guns is "if it's over 10 years old and still hasn't been scrapped it's one of the good ones"
>>
>>33801588
I think there is a lot more quality to their revolvers like the Trackers and Raging series than any of their semi-autos. I plan on buying a Tracker in 357 and Raging Bull in 454, but I never hear much good for the polymer.

I thought Taurus just had a massive recall and had massive class action lawsuits against them for having defective handguns that were made from about 2000-2013?
>>
Fun and hasn't blown up yet, but I rarely shoot max load .357 from it, usually just .38 semi wad and cheap(er) magnum loads.
>>
>>33801604
any other manufacturer would recall that shit
>>
>>33801588
I have about as much faith in Taurus as I do in Jimenez.
>>
My brother is the one with the Model 66. Thank you buddy for posting a thread about it.

It is a 1993 4 inch with zero rust, very fine holster wear that isn't even worth mentioning, and the grips have a light smell of smoke. That's literally all I can see that is up with the gun. Even the fucking rifling is in near-perfect condition!

There was a gun show in Baraboo, Wisconsin(still going until Sunday) and we picked this lovely .357 for $450! I feel rather jealous, but at least he agreed to letting me carry it sometimes! :D

Great, innovative ideas but shitty execution.
>>
>>33801588
I have a few taurus guns and they work just fine, can't really complain
>>
>>33801588
Revolvers are fine, as for semis the pt111 and their M92clones are reportedly fine
>>
Have the poly judge. Works just fine imo. Havent tryed it with shells yet however

I have a Taurus 990 that is just nice to shoot. The trigger and action isn't as nice as my Dan Wesson, but realistically, for $300 its fuckin great.
>>
>>33801588
it seems to be the semi-autos that get the bad reputation. I have a Taurus 608 that has been running without fail for a few years even with cheap russian ammo.
>>
>>33809504
I also have a 608, 6'5" barrel
>>
>>33801831
yes, it's survivor bias. the ones that are still around are the ones that actually work or have been recalled and or fixed. all the defective ones have probably been melted down or added to the /k/ube by now.

there is still a chance to get a defective one, i guess.

Im same with thus guy
>>
>>33801588

IMHO their revolvers are ok

it's the semi-autos that are iffy
>>
>>33801747
I have the exact one in .357, first handgun I ever purchased. Its run good on me so far and I always wondered why Taurus had a shit reputation
>>
>>33801588
got a more recent model 66 7shot .357mag with a 6in barrel. Its been great so far imo. I only shoot full power .357 158GR. it was great for the price and also my first handgun. Their guns are always hit or miss (not literally) sometimes you get one that will work flawlessly forever basically, and some you get are total lemons that will never work right period. Take it out to shoot and then make your own judgements. Their revolvers are seen as fine, but their semi-autos still have a stigma to them. My friend got a millennium in 9mm, and its been fine too but i wont say much more becasue it has had very few rounds through it so far. So for things like the Judge those it really depends on the ammo you use. A gun that can do everything typically cant do any one of those things better than a gun that only does one thing. That goes for all brands though. Tests have shown that 000buck in close range will do plenty of damage.
>>
>>33801588
my taurus PT 1911 fails to fully push the roundinto the chamber more often than i'd prefer.
i've been working the slide to wear away the protective layer and added more slipperiness, plus i use primarily reloaded ammunition.
