>get Arisaka with mum
>begin cleaning of ungodly amounts of cosmoline in the bolt and receiver
>there's literally small pieces of wood in the cocking knob
>everything is last ditch appropriate except the bolt handle
>the bolt matches the receiver and every other bolt part

so is that normal? to have a normal looking arisaka bolt handle but other parts be full last ditch mode?

also holy fuck there are a lot of lebels on gunbroker. I may have dip into my savings to snag a cheap one.

Bolts are often mis-matched because of the way they came back to the states. Bolts in one pile, rifles in another.
>>
>>33801656

were they reserialized though? I checked the bolt parts and they all match to the last 3 digits of the receiver.

Picked up a byf 1944 all matching 98k yesterday for $385. It's a clearing rod, not a cleaning rod. It was only used to push out stuck cases. They had pull throughs to clean the barrel with.

That's the appeal. That's exactly the reasoning behind every piece of milsurp I own. Some don't even qualify as fine shooters.

Unfortunately with such a tiny number produced that model really is just a museum piece or a rich man's toy. If they had cranked out 100k and all the rifles made it to Mexico and then were imported into the USA after WW2, where they'd probably sell for <$1k today, I'd own one right now.

I can't comment about Swedish rifles. Ice only shot one once, many years ago, and it was about 10 rounds. So I don't hold an opinion about them. But for German Mausers? I've shot many of those, of various grades and types. They're not bad, but they don't compare in smoothness (or usually accuracy) to my French rifles. My Kar98 is probably the smoothest Mauser I have, but it's still only average.

There was a 1938-dated PFK-Warsaw-manufactured Wz.98a at the same auction house where I got my Vz.98. Unfortunately for me the Wz.98a has the tangent-leaf rear sight like a reworked Nazi-era Gew.98 and without that rollercoaster it just didn't do it for me.

Eh. They're pretty accurate shooters. That's about it. They're heavy, the stock is abnormally thick, and they're overly complicated for what it is.

Also, should the magazine have a hole for the stripper clip to fall through, as I noticed the none carbines have that gap in the magazine. I don't think mines a yugo magazine since the clip for the magazine isn't grinded down but I could be wrong.
>>
>>33805641

the m95 used an en bloc clip system like the m1 garand. once you chamber the last round the en bloc clip falls out of the bottom.

you will need an m95 en bloc clip to load rounds into the m95.

Again, they're okay on that department. I don't consider them slicker than a Krag, nor a French Mle 1936. I also consider a smooth bolt to really be smooth all the way through the bolt through.

What are some good recommendations for a good semi-auto woodstock rifle like an M1A or M1? The Mas 49/56 looks nice, but the ammo seems a bit exotic and expensive for regular shooting. You can buy based PPU 7.5 French for $0.75 per round, with beautiful reloadable brass cases. If you're a brass-case purist, I don't know what you intend to shoot that's much cheaper than that in .308.

If you just want a .308 to blast steelcase, get a PTR or something. It won't have wood furniture but you'll be hard-pressed to find an old-style wood battle rifle in .308 (that isn't an M1A), as militaries were moving away from wood at about the same time that they were standardizing to .308. You're going to have to make a compromise somewhere.

I bought a nugget a couple of months ago but the bayonet didn't fit on it, It always got stuck when I tried to put it on and it took pounding it out with a hammer to get it off

Is this going to have any adverse effect on the barrel?

How can I fix this damn bayonet?

IIRC the bayonets were supposed to be fixed most of the time, so it shouldn't have consequences.

You may be able to fix it by sanding the lug or the bayonet a bit, but I'm not sure if there's potential problems from that.

I think sanding it down with a dremel and extension should work

If you have a NR and they catch it, they'll just cancel the order and block you. Costs them a sell sure, but they're already proved themselves to be prickish so its not like the first or only time it happens.

Bought another abused workhorse.

This one seems to be made Kommiefornia Kompliant.

This is my first sks. Its a Yugo. Is this section with the clippy ring part of the front sight block?

The barrel is already mismatched, so it won't be a major loss replacing it if i feel like making it a grenadier again. But this block seems to be of an earlier "non tapered" design. I'm not sure if it unscrews, i drove a pin out and it doesn't want to move any direction.

Still has solid rifling, I'm pondering just getting a muzzle bayonet thingy and having some ghetto M56

Hoping to find a Chilean Mauser, Tikka M30, Argentine (or ideally an affordable LUX) FN-49, or FN model 1910.
