Anyone else feel this sometimes? I'm a mid-twenties guy who has a semi-fulfilling, high-paying IT job, pretty wife, and a baby son but every so often I'll lie awake in bed and wonder how things could have been even though I know I made the "smart" choice.

>tfw you try to make up for this by buying guns and gear but it'll never be the same
>>
Nah, you avoided having to deal with a lot of bullshit and stupid people.
Grass is always greener, etc.
>>
>>33800859
Mid twenties is still young enough to join the NG or something, get your fix as a weekend warrior.
>>
>>33800859
I was always afraid of this when I was younger.

Now I wish I'd cared more about Good House and sex life regret.
>>
>>33800859
Trust me, what you have achieved is by far the better option

>>
>>33800859
Well what the fuck then. Do something you want to do. Start playing competitive paintball if you're looking for team building and friends; look into hobbies or other extreme sports.
Join your local gym and get something to do.

If you've got a new born then suck it the fuck up. Sometimes life is boring and everyone feels regret constantly.

I play AXBL, or x-ball paintball and do rifle courses every week to keep myself entertained from my extremely boring job.

I do this, too, though I don't have a wife or kids. I'm 29 and have a bachelor's degree but I am just a lowly contractor not fulfilling my potential. The thing that keeps me from changing careers is my desire to hold onto my independence, though.

Nah man, count your blessings. Be glad you had the choice to serve and weren't forced into it. If you were born in another country you may not have been so fortunate.

From every serviceman I've interacted with, and all the friends I've had leave to go join the Army, they keep telling me time and again that I made the right choice and that the Army did basically nothing for them for four years while they routinely got fucked in the ass.

They reiterate that I know more about tactical shit then they do, more about funs and the like, and have better opportunities then they'll ever have. The only benefit that they universally agree on is free schooling afterwards.
>>
>>33800859
At least you've got a wife.

Uncle Sam had his chance with me. I lost a trip to Annapolis because of a skin condition. Had a bunch of dermatologists give me a clean bill of health for a year and tried to enlist in the Army and got denied then too. At least I make good money in IT for Big Pharma, so my life wasn't a total loss.

Anytime I feel that way I just talk to a vet. That clears that shit right up.
>ww2 - crazy Nazis or japs trying to kill you in really hot or clod places

>Vietnam - miserable hot wet jungle with little yellow people trying to kill you

> Gulf wars- crazy brown people trying to kill you in really hot dry places

>Afghanistan - crazy brown people trying to kill you in a cold mountainous place

The only thing that ever sounded really cool was sailing around in the navy. Now I just take cruises.

Keep making excuses. You're in part responsible for the mass drugging of our youth and society in general.
If you're gonna brag about your "big pharma IT salary" then at least be truthful about it.

Nice dubs

In my opinion it would be worth it to do cool guy stuff, like SOF or become a pilot. I understand that it is very selective and for most people unrealistic
>>
>>33801023
Well that's the idea of the GI bill. Help transfer military folks into civilian life. Doesn't always work though. Sometimes the military is the place for people to be.
>>
>>33801121

Fuck off, loser. I work for the eye care division. All we're responsible for is saving and improving people's sight. The parent company is a bunch of fucking douchebags and if they sold us tomorrow it would suit me just fine.
>>
>>33801121
Unless you are actively doing something about this "mass drugging" then you are just as guilty as anybody else. It isn't up to pharma to prescribe drugs to patients, why don't you go after some doctors while you're at it
>>
>>33801119
Haha this. Every vet I've ever talked to has specifically told me to "go to college instead, and see how you feel after your degree". Which actually means, "don't make a stupid choice, there are much better things out there".
I listened to them.
>>
>>33800859
I feel this regret too sometimes, but remember you basically get to get up when you want. Do exercise(or not) when you want. Only have to answer to another guy's bullshit for about 8 hours a day. Dress the way you want. You get to still do tactical shit(with more options of gear, doesn't have to be AR-670-1) and not worry about getting permission to do so. These are the things I tell myself in order to make myself feel better when I'm starting to hate civvie life and wishing I was back in and doing something that I thought had more purpose and more exciting. Only thing I've yet to find to completely ween me off my military memories is finding something with the adrenaline rush and camaraderie and acceptance of weirdo's in a tight knit group(at work).

Yes. I feel it plenty. It's a fucking weird feeling like I am in limbo, almost. On the inside I feel like I don't have a purpose and that I missed a calling somewhere (and I totally did thanks to one retard friend), but on the outside I am basically legendary at my place of work. Everyone knows me and pretty much everyone likes me there. Most people I work with are more friends in my mind than co workers at this point.

Hell, yesterday was my 30th birthday and a bunch of these people wanted to celebrate it with me last night.

So I try to make the best of all of this. I have a 12-year-old half brother who I get to help guide through the world of masculinity, and believe me, he'll learn some /k/ommando shit from me for sure.

Definitely not for everyone. We all have our reasons. If you're not interested in becoming a service member I don't suggest it.

Personally I joined to kill people, enjoy the camaraderie and I always wanted to join the Army. 3 years in and I love to hate it. Can't wait to re-enlist.

Sure I wish I had more money. I could use a couple thousand more bucks but I wouldn't give up my current career for another one.

The military was the best thing that ever happened to me, but I was extremely lucky.

>Join Navy at 19
>Pick hospital corpsman at meps
>Go through easy as fuck boot camp
>Get picked for a medical job that nets 50k a year
>Get trained in job by the Navy for free in San Diego for a year
>Fuck mad biddies in the meantime.
>First real duty station
>Beautiful place, and weather, get to move out to town with bros and collect monthly housing stipend
>Work close to officers/doctors in job, get to mouth off to them/shoot shit/ make friends, feels really good.
>Be good at job and eventually work my way to chill on the night shift
>Wear uniform ~4 times a year
>Sleep on my shift, barely anything happens ever, slutty chick worked with me a little on night shift for a few months, fucked her in the dental clinic nearly every night.
>Use easily accumulated capital to invest in crypto
>Make over 20k trading crypto on the night shift
>Get out
>Move back home

Now I'm using that sweet, beautiful GI bill and working my job that the Navy paid me to learn how to do and paid for the certificate test.

I was extremely lucky and I am extremely grateful. For you youngins it can really work out well with playing your cards right and some luck. Just work hard in school and pick a job that requires some smarts and skill.
>>
>>33801326
I could pay off my student loans within a year if I wanted. My mortgage would take another three after that. I pay less for my mortgage, home insurance, taxes and home security monthly than I would be paying for rent in a worse home.
Also 401ks are silly if you are capable of reading a value investment book or two. It must suck to have to justify your place in life by misattributing things to other people.
So swing and a miss on those two bets; got any others?

>every so often I'll lie awake in bed and wonder how things could have been

The only reason people feel this way is because of the continuous and massive recruitment campaign that is laser-aimed at young men who want to feel that they are special, powerful, capable, sexually desireable and well-respected.

Tell you what- next time you feel that way, take some of the money you spend on guns and spend it on a fucking MOP. Then set your alarm for 4am, get up when it goes off, and start fucking mopping.

You can stop mopping when that feeling goes away. Should take at least 30 seconds or so.

yer welcome.

I feel it pretty bad. Medical dqs from joining the army in terms of a solitary kidney and hydrocelle
>>
>>33800859
I'm in my 30s, no wife, no kids. Was working on becoming a teacher but now I want a little adventure before I commit myself to the drudgery of a normal career. I was running short on funds away so the military will help me finish paying for what I need. I work with teenagers so I imagine the military won't be too much different.
>>
>>33801474
>free schooling
Holy fuck, ITS NOT FUCKING FREE.
You sign away your rights, your life, and every shred of autonomy you have and get SHIT ON for the term of your contract. That is the fucking price of your precious college education.

People talk about "free army shit" the way Yuropoors talk about their "free healthcare". It's not fucking free, you pay for every cent. Poorfaggot mentality can't grasp this concept-- hence, continued poorfaggotry.

>girl I plan to marry says she's not going to stay with me if I join
>want to become officer in the Army but I won't get out till I'm in my 30's and have no desire to do wife up while I'm deployed
The only thing that's keeping me from joining is the fact that there won't be any decent candidates for a happy marriage by the time I get out.

On the other hand, joining up is the only way I'll be able to build the international govt. relations career I've dreamed about all my life. Such is life.
>>
>be in high school, no idea what I want to do
