Like the title suggest, post and discuss tanks, planes, helicopters etc. That are off or rare or just prototypes.
I'll start
Anybody has some info on Panther ausf F? The only thing i've been able to dig up is some photos and info that it may or may not have taken part in combat. On some of those photos the gun has muzzle brake and on some don't, anybody can tell why?
Can anybody tell me where was ausf F assembled? How many models were built? Did it took part in combat or was it destroyed after Russians or allies caputred it?

Except it wasn't a tank killer and was not to be used in that role. It was designed during a time when lighter tankette like vehicles were intended to assault infantry positions and withstand small anti-tank guns that were still fairly rare at the time, or would be presumed so.

It's better to think of it as a very heavy tankette rather than a full tank.

Germans were.... peculiar in WW2 about supply to allies and cooperation. I bet that was due their lack of a proper wartime economy until Speer got it up and the ferocious competition between the different firms, that guaranteed political muddling and overall inefficiency. Sure, one can say they had problems to equip their own troops, but licenses and plans should have been freely given. Who knows.

They were far inferior to both WW1 Imperial Germany (that had to keep all the other Central Powers up) and to the WW2 Allies (some stuff was amazing, like the British idea to built T-34 - the image I got here is a mockup, though -).

Often erroneously postulated to have been a vehicle or a power-plant for one, pictured is a likely wildly inaccurate artist's rendition of a prototype, German Uranium-233 breeder which functioned by bombarding Thorium with neutrons to produce Protactinium which would then undergo beta-negative decay to produce fissile Uranium-233. The device is likely the facilitator of the so-called, alternative "photo-chemical process" for uranium production mentioned by many of the German scientists involved with the nuclear project interrogated post war at Farm Hall. This nomenclature refers to the production of the free neutrons via liberating them from beryllium nuclei via x-ray bombardment.

While inconsequential in the long run, and overvalued by the Germans who didn't realize how advanced the US already was, it is nonetheless an interesting curiosity.

What happened was that Ju87's did really well in the Spanish Civil War, giving Hitler a dive-bombing fetish. So fuckin everything needed to be able to dive-bomb. He111's were made to dive-bomb for instance.

The BK50 was meant more for sniping strategic bombers. The idea was that a high velocity 50mm shell would be effective at a longer range than the 50cals on B17's, so you could shoot down bombers with impunity. Didn't really work out; escort fighters were a bigger threat than defensive guns, and you can't really avoid escorts when you're trying to aim this big stupid gun that's only got ~20 shots.

>What happened was that Ju87's did really well in the Spanish Civil War, giving Hitler a dive-bombing fetish. So fuckin everything needed to be able to dive-bomb. He111's were made to dive-bomb for instance.
No, you're retarded. The dive bombing meme took over the Luftwaffe when Ernst Udet saw a demonstration of dive bombing with Curtiss Helldivers in America. Seeing how effective it was, he got everyone else in the Luftwaffe hooked on the dive bombing meme save General Wever, who ended up dying in a plane crash. With Wever out of the picture and everyone else obsessed with tactical bombing, Wever's strategic bomber program was cancelled the focus was shifted to tactical bombing.

However, the medium bombers that made the mainstay of the Luftwaffe's bomber corps in 1939 - the He 111 and Do 17 - were not designed for dive bombing. Ju 88s were designed for medium-angle dive bombing, and after the successes in 1939/40 the requirement was also shoehorned into Heinkel's new bomber program, but the He 111 was never meant to dive bomb.

Well you thought wrong. That's a pop history meme that popped up because "the three largest industrial powers in the world beat up on Germany and it's irrelevant shithole allies" doesn't make a good story for the history books. Everyone likes an underdog story, and playing up the Germans as this big evil menace only defeated through luck plays to that.

Germany's only real areas of advancement over the Allies were in rocketry and high speed flight. Everywhere else, the Allies either had something close to technological parity or had surpassed them. And even with those niche areas of expertise, they wouldn't have been able to do anything. They lacked the industrial capacity to make their rocketry knowledge strategically significant, and they never got to the point where implementing their high speed flight research would have mattered. Even if they did, you'd have seen some spectacular failures while they worked to get transonic aircraft working, because a lot of German wind tunnel data was critically flawed without them really realizing it.
