I want to add a revolver to my collection. I don't have one and thought it would be fun. Plus I could start shooting ICORE matches which I've heard are very challenging. To keep within the rules I've settled on a 357 4" revolver. Since I'm looking competing I tried to focus on competition models.

Ruger GP100 match champion is the least expensive at right $700. I've heard it has a great trigger but I haven't been able to find one locally to try.

S&W 686 SSR.Not much more expensive at $760, and IMO much better looking. The trigger seemed fine to me when I test fired one. THe grip was very nice. The cylinder release felt a little weird but anything can be learned.

And then for weird factor the Chiappa 40DS. Right around $800. I thought the trigger was OK, but the cocking mechanism was awful. The grip was weird compared to the 686. But the lower barrel seems like it could be good for matches.

So what you recommend for a 4" revolver /k/?

Which ever you pick, always remember to carry (1) armor piercing bullet on you at all times in case of a runaway truck.
>>
>>33796017

Is this a meme I'm not familiar with?

>>33796016

Any reason why?
>>
>>33796140
I've fired all 3 of your proposed options. Some stems from personal preference regarding aesthetics, but I really like the MC's trigger and heft in the hand.
>>
>>33796140
Some autist made a thread where he carried an 'ace in the hole,' which which was just a single .357 magnum round he carried in a little zip gun. He said something to the effect of 'if a runaway truck is heading towards me, I can disable the engine block with it!'
>>
S&W Model 13, get a nice pinned and recessed one.
>>
>>33796232
It wasn't a zip gun, it was a little steel capsule. The idea was that he'd load the bullet into his cc. Still retarded, but high school retarded instead of elementary school retarded.

Match Champion all the way. SSR is a fine gun, but the MC fits perfectly in my hand.
>>
>>33796232
>>33796298

Haha I missed that I enjoy then. I'm make sure I keep my anti-truck defense round on me at all times now.

>>33796254

You're not helping.

>>33796330

I've heard the trigger is better. The SSR trigger didn't really wow me for a performance center gun.
>>
>>33795990
>S&W 686 SSR
Would rather have a 586, 13, or 27. The MC is better looking than the SSR or the Chiappa
>>
>>33796539
my nigga
>>
>>33796501
That's why I went with the MC. The trigger isn't any better on the SSR. The finish on the smith I tried wasn't close to what I was expecting for a PC either.
>>
>>33795990
686 SSR
>>
>>33795990
Personally i like the MC. Dat half underlug.

Their supposed to slightly edge out the 686 in accuracy and durability. but the half underlug means a little less weight at the end of the muzzle to mitigate muzzle climb, the 686s usually have slightly better finish, and sometimes slightly better triggers.

I guess I need to get my head checked cause I just think it looks weird. Especially the grip looks lumpy. But it's certainly cost effective.

>>33796776

And honestly while I think the Smith looks better, being more expensive and only as nice (or maybe not as nice) is a pretty big killer.

>>33796816

It sounds like I'm going for the Match Champion then. I thought the Chiappa would get some votes but I guess it just isn't good enough to really compete. Is there any 4" revolvers I'm missing? Without getting into Korth level shit I mean.

>>33796951
If you can, try them both side by side. I swapped out the grips for the compact version and they fit really well without changing the length of pull. They also conceal Better if you're thinking of throwing a jacket on.
>>
>>33796992
Here's a link to the compact grips. Altamont makes inserts if you want to get fancy.

I found an SSR at a range but no one that I've called even stocks the MC. Special order only. I held one months ago but I could try the trigger because of the store policy. Those rubber grips look nice. I see them on a lot of Rugers. Honestly unless I hated those wood ones or needed something more grippy I wouldn't change. At least not right away.

It's not the Match Champion, I have a 2nd year production GP-100 and I absolutely love it. I could only imagine the MC being even better.
>>
>>33797104
*but I have

Damn I'm retarded.
>>
Either the GP-100 or the 686.

Look for a used GP-100. Good luck wearing one out.
>>
>>33796951
IMHO the chiappa only really shines as a CCW/hd revolver. Thinner, lower recoil, and even has a spot to mount a light. screams serious use to me, but i hear they can be kinda hit or miss so idk how much id trust one that i hadn't vetted myself.

You might give used dan wessons a look. used to be pretty popular for bullseye back in the day IIRC. interchangeable barrels and surprisingly affordable last i checked.
>>
>>33797134

Aside from one guy apparently cleaning up in IPSC in Europe the Rhino doesn't seem to be getting a lot of use for competive shooting. Which is a shame cause I think it's neat.

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong models but the few Wessons I could find were $1000+. More than I'm looking to spend right now.

>>33797104

Another vote of confidence for the Ruger. It'll be my next purchase.
>>
>>33797266
mmmm, think they're 715s or something like that.
