Questions that don't deserve their own thread thread.

Looking for a tapeswitch to use with my Surefire M600U. Should I get a DS-07 (pic related) and Magpul M-lok switch mount or an SR-07 switch that attaches directly to a picatinny rail? Rail being used is a Geissele MK8
>>
/k/, where do babies come from?
>>
>>33795392

>>
>>33795361

Okay I got one /k/. I live in AZ but my family is from IL (yes I'm a transplant). My family is visiting here this week and my step-father wants to buy a gun from me. Now I know it's okay to sell to him in AZ since he's not a prohibited possessor. It gets dicey if he wants to take it back to Illinois, because I've been gone too long and don't know how the laws work over there. Should I just sell him the thing or should we stop over at an FFL just to be safe?
>>
>>33795361

Depends on where you personally want your switch. I assume the top of your rail is still 1913, so you'll have to use a c-clamp grip to activate with the SR-07, or use the DS-07 and mlok mount on the side.

I like the SR-07 myself, as it is more adjustable in small increments (one rail at a time) vs. the mlok, but I'm a big faggot that likes c-clamping my rifle a little.

Are tape switches really needed for home defense or SHTF? I understand a military or police need all kinds of functionality. But could just a tail cap switch flashlight work ok?
>>
>>33796064
They're helpful for shorter rails when you can't attach the light in a spot that allows proper support arm extension using a regular tail cap

Is a shoulder holster like in pic related OK for someone new to ccw?

I often have to drive through shit holes in Chicago's West side. Should I stick with a traditional waistband holster?
>>
>>33796157
Go to the store and fondle the guns in your price range. Buy whatever fits best in your hand.
>>
>>33796172
thats what i plan to do, but im trying to get a list of guns id like to see once i go there. i already have a hand gun and some long rifles, but everything is hand-me-downs. so on top of that, my mom is in her 60s and decided she wants to go shooting again. so im trying to buy us something nice.
>>
>>33796064
They aren't needed, but they are helpful. Why would police need a switch and a civilian wouldn't? In b4 cops are civs.
>>
>>33796158
Generally no. They are still unwieldy, sway around, make you cross draw and usually muzzle yourself to a degree, make you stand out/never take off a jacket, slower draw than waistband. You are free to do whatever you want, but shoulder carry is almost never the best option in any situation.
>>
>>33796293
How do I draw while driving with a seat belt with a waistband holster?
>>
>>33796339
You take it out and put it between the console and seat.
>>
I just bought a sporterized arisaka. Where can I find a new production replica stock to replace the current abomination?
>>
>>33796369
The Internet.
>>
>>33796270
Swat goes into raids where they are hidden one second and assaulting the next. I don't know. For me if I ever get a home defense situation or SHTF, I'm gonna turn on my light to properly identify and aim. I just don't see the need for $400 on a flashlight setup, that I'll probably never use and if I do need it a normal tail flashlight will be ok.
>>
>>33796339
Also there are a few options that are holsters that have a car mount as well. That may be the only slight advantage that shoulder carry has, but really, if someone gets the drop on you while you are in a car, you are already at a huge disadvantage.
>>
>>33795444
I'd tell you a quick google search would let you know how retarded you are, but on the other hand I'd like you to just go ahead with it and tell us how it goes
>>
>>33796397
Well, yeah cost is obviously a factor. If they cost the same, I'd go with a switch every time. Police don't have to pay it out of pocket, so they don't care about dropping tons of our money on gadgets.
>>
>>33796398
>>33796353
Illinois has a strict law against any type of open carry, both in and out of vehicle. That means things like steering column holsters and keeping the gun between seat cushions is out of the question.

That means I have to keep it on person, concealed, or in my glove box/Center console.
>>
>>33796444
Than the obvious solution is to surrender your balls, and let your nanny state protect you.
>>
>>33796444
>living in a state where your vehicle isn't an extension of your home
Leave.
>>
>>33796454
>>33796460
Illinois considers your vehicle to be a safe harbor zone (which means you can always carry in your vehicle, regardless of where you are, including liberal zero gun tolerance Chicago). In fact, Illinois has some pretty tame gun laws when you consider that the nation's 3rd largest liberal city is it's largest city.

Although silencers are completely banned, we don't have a draconian black rifle ban/only featureless rifles allowed law, no magazine restrictions, and standard waiting periods. Our self defense laws rank amongst the highest in the nation, it's expressly written in our constitution that the use of a firearm to prevent any and all "forceable felony" is acceptable. Whereas our neighboring states of Missouri, Wisconsin, and Iowa (all generally more conservative states) all have duty to retreats, meaning a nigger needs to be physically penetrating you before you can fire.

Got a question for you /k/

Just bought a LaRue LT150 Comp M2 Mount QD for my Aimpoint Carbine Optic (Colt LE6940 rifle). I watched a YouTube installation video and the guy had his upper reciever set in a vice and used a level for installation -- I guess I didn't realize I might need all of that. Is it imperative I do, or is it "good enough" to just line it up best I can? Or, if I go to a local range/gun shop can I assume they have the proper tools and might they assist me with installation?

Thanks.
>>
>>33797368
LaRue mounts suck, you should have gotten a Bobro.
Last time I checked the ACO was only slightly less expensive than the PRO (which comes properly installed in a QD mount for you).
Monolithic rails are a pointless gimmick in a world where cantilevered optic mounts exist.
That said, it's important that your optic be level in its ring(s) because if it's not the elevation and windage adjustments will move the reticle diagonally and it'll be really hard to zero, and if you ever want to dial elevation or windage the adjustments won't work right for the same reason.
It doesn't matter as much with a close-range optic like a red dot that you're never going to dial E/W on, but it wouldn't hurt if you got a couple of cheap bullet levels from Harbor Freight or wherever and put one on your handguard and one on your Aimpoint's elevation turret and made sure they matched each other.

Anyone know a good place to get a threaded barrel for an SP01?
>>
>>33797566
Criticism accepted where due. Bought weapon and optic couple years ago and shelfed it, and just now getting back into it seriously. Thought I would just make due w/ what I had, hadn't heard of bobro unfortunately though.

Thank you for advice though. I appreciate it.

As a sidebar, how far forward on the rail should I mount the ACO?
>>
I realize this is a vague question, but whats the most likely cause for short stroking in a freshly built AR? it shoots straight, but It wont go more than two rounds without either not picking up a round at all or just barely grabbing one and stovepiping. it extracts fine and shoots straight otherwise. It seemed to short stroke and miss rounds more with the fiocchi .223, and it stovepiped pretty often with the (off brand) 5.56.
when I got home I was looking over the rifle and I noticed the gas block was slightly off kilter (little past 12 o'clock, fixed it now). the most I shot through it was I think 5 rounds in a row before a feeding malfunction. I'm also using Gen2 PMags, if that matters.
>>
>>33797951
I should clarify:

when I say stovepiping I mean its not fully chambering the next round and jams up. It never failed to extract and IIRC it DID lock back on the last round, although that might have just been a fluke.

As far as you want.
Red dots don't have eye relief, and there's no field of view to worry about since you're shooting with both eyes open, so you can just stick it wherever and it'll work just the same.
Some people subjectively prefer them further back, some subjectively prefer them further forward.
Most people settle on "right over the magwell", but since you have the luxury of a monolithic upper feel free to play around and see what you like best.
>>
>>33797951
If the gas block was visibly canted, that would certainly do it.
It's probably fine now.

Some guy locally just listed a P08 Luger for $500.
Is that a good price or will Tyrone and friends be waiting for me?
>>
>>33800357
No, but it's not great, either. The early models (X95, not SAR) has problems with accuracy but that was fixed. I'm currently trying to sell my SAR because I purchased an AUG and I've seen the light.
>>
>>33804671
That's 1/2-1/4 the going price. Either the seller doesn't know what year it is, or you should bring an armed friend. Or it's in near unfireable condition. I'd still check it out, though. Worth it if legit.
>>
People post pictures of rifles, and call them weapon platforms. What do they mean? Just looks like a rifle to me. In my mind a weapons platform, would be what you put a weapon on.

Just started conceal carry. Is it normal to be incredibly self conscious?

When I put my holster on when I park, is there a way to do it that won't be noticed? I carry on the front on my waist. Not comfortable to sit and drive that way.

I don't really have anyone irl to ask these things, thanks for any advice.
>>
>>33804730
There is no standard definition of ''weapons platform.'' Personally, I treat the term to mean kind. For example, the AR-15 or the AK platform. Taken literally, the term would seem to mean a platform to which a gun is affixed.

So, the tabs on the clips that keep them from sliding into the magazine on my sks are either too small, or the clip guide on my sks is too big. I just had a clip slide in (but not out) and I had to grind off the tabs with a dremel to pull it out. (pic related - the top tabs are missing)

Anyone else hear of this issue? They're shitty non-surplus clips, but I don't want to go out and buy better clips if the problem is with my gun and they're going to do the same thing.

Functions fine otherwise. Never had a misfire or jam. Super reliable.

>>
>>33805936
If you have another scope and rifle you could get some useful data by trying the other scope on the Tikka and the Kahles on the other rifle.
If one or both are under warranty, you could send the rifle and scope back to their manufacturers to have them see if the barrel is on straight / the elevation knob isn't fucky.
Failing that, I guess just get some 20 MOA rings and install them backwards.

I recently found out that the 40mm grenades used by a mk19 are different than those made for the handheld launchers like the M203.

I hadn't assumed they used the same ammo but I'd also never really thought about it. 40×53mm is obviously longer and has a higher velocity than the 40×46mm, but are there other differences? A 40×46mm probably couldn't cycle an Mk19 action, but could you fire one if you cycled it manually? Are either rifled?
