It's less about the pony, more about how poorly done it is: guns are beautifully designed out of the box, masterpieces of engineering and craftsmanship (with few exceptions).

You don't need to give them a dye job and slap emblems on them everywhere. This is just like fucking 'steampunk' fandoms taking legitimately beautiful victorian fashions and throwing on cogs and pipes.

I will still hold the opinion they're turning their guns in MMO weapons.

As for how I would go about such things?

Well, I suppose first example that comes to mind would be Luna's mark which, admittedly is an easy thing to fit in: just an engraving with silver filigree inlaid into a stock.

Now that's a look that wouldn't really work for polymer weapons, but on anything wood and metal it should swing.

I, too, know this pain. However, I also retreated to my room and rebuilt major battles with green and tan army men, so it was more of a historical perspective on war than the gun operations of them.
