I'll agree, Glock did it first with mass success (sorry HK). Meanwhile plastic sights/guide rod/magazines. All these are cost saving measures, outside of the magazines none of the savings is passed on to the consumer. The gen 4 grip customization is weak and lacking. Finger grooves and the Glock grip stippeling still sucks. Main thing Glock has over the competition is LEO contracts, huge aftermarket, and a reputation for reliability. Market is flooded with striker fired guns. Awaiting to see what (if any) improvements are made if they want to remain competitive because this "Summer sale" is going to cost more than Gen 3/4 retail.

Then again, we are trained on the H&K P8, which got an external hammer, external safety and uncocking device.
