You guys are right.

https://archive.org/stream/Automatic_and_Concealable_Firearms_Design_Book_Vol_II_-_Paladin_Press#page/n37/mode/1up

What an awful design, nonetheless.
>>
I understand this is a .22, but what exactly is preventing the bolt from hitting you in the face when it inevitably launches out of the gun?
>>
>>33789992
that screw that connects the rod to the bolt
>>
>>33789992
The pin, which would be driven into the recoil spring guide rod after the bolt was in the upper receiver, and stand proud of the upper reciever. Also the nut, which would be attached to the recoil spring guide rod from the front of the gun, and wouldn't be able to pass through the rear of the recoil spring housing.

This link in the post above yours has better schematics.

How about having the recoil spring inside the bolt? You could really reduce some of that weight from up front by having only an barrel and an adapter to fit the small barrel into the receiver instead of having this huge barrel/recoil spring housing thingy.

You're gonna have a lot of FTFs on that, especially with shitty, soft .22lr bullets. Put a feed ramp in on that chamber or adjust the tolerance between the mag and chamber.

See pic related.

I am a mechanical engineer, op... I would advise on mounting some-sort of rifle stock; the recoil when firing and the actuation would be very uncontrollable. Also what alloy/metal are you planning on using? I would advise dipping or platting chromium-vanadium steel on the bolt and firing pin.

I believe it is a straight blowback with the recoil spring above the barrel.

Eh, I was working on this a long time ago but it's probably never going to get built because it's a lot of work and I've never done anything like it before. It was a 10mm lever delayed blowback downward ejecting bullpup design, intended to take glock magazines. Ran into some issues trying to figure out how the extractor would work because it would need to be on the bottom of the bolt. In the RDB it's a double feed magazine so they can have the locking lugs protect the extractor while it's stripping bullets from the cartridges, but the glock mag is single feed so it's not practical.

Also missing from the design is how to control headspacing, but I think I got that figured out. There'd be precisely machined shims that go between the barrel indexing lug and the body of the receiver to adjust how far back it sat in the apparatus. Never bothered to include that though.

Just had the idea last night for a RFID "smart gun" that is unlocked by a RFID ring on the user's finger, with the antenna built into the grip. It would just be a Sig P320 frame so not even legally a "gun" and it could be sold over the counter. It would be powered by an Arduino controller with the battery in front of the trigger guard. Potentially could include a LED light too if there was enough room but it would reduce the potential life of the locking mechanism. The Arduino would sleep until a "grip safety" at the back was pressed, at which point it would wake and authenticate. When released after a short time the gun would lock again.

It probably wouldn't trigger the NJ clause restricting normal firearms because it technically wouldn't be a "gun" but an accessory. Also there would be a tool-operated switch in the magwell to disable the RFID safety system to combat fears of the signal being overpowered or it being remotely disabled. It's more of an advanced retention device than anything.

also look into the JARD downward ejecting bullpups for ideas about archaic bolt design (and the ejection)

>>33795550
>arduino
>LED light
>RFID ring
kill you're self

it's clear you are not an EE. in the future replace all instances of "arduino" in your vocabulary with "microcontroller" and you will sound less like a bumblefuck

electronics do not belong in firearms, no matter how reliable or feasible you think it may be
>>
>>33795573
You already have proof of concept with other guns. It's not exactly hard to make an RFID reader and you can buy all the parts (and small enough to fit into a gun) for like $60 online. I don't think a P320 grip is considered a gun literally anywhere in the United States. Besides, it's not truly "locked" to it's user.

This is undoubtedly true, love the bolt design. If I ever move out of this hellhole and set up a hobby machine shop I'd probably steal some elements of your design while moving the magazine forward of the trigger so I can have something that looks like a sheetmetal abortion of a Mauser
>>
>>33795642
Nah, I'm a software engineer. I said that specifically because I was going to use a smaller version of the Arduino zero board (neutrino). I don't know nearly enough to make my own microcontroller and the point is to try new things and enjoy it. I take it you are desperately opposed to any electrical reflex sights too, which means you're like stuck in the past mannnnnn.
>>
>>33795677
now it's time to reconsider your command of the english language and review prepositions, starting with "in" and "on"

programmers need to have the highest level of scrutiny when it comes to syntax. i'm disappointed.

Nah, you're wallowing in it. Just wondering, what's your opposition to LED lighting? It seems brighter, more space efficient, and more energy efficient than traditional methods.
>>
>>33795880
holy fuck, learn to read
Electronics do not belong IN firearms.
Electronics ON firearms are different and circumstantial. Electronics should not be required for the operation of a firearm in any way.

>>LED light
blinkenlights are for retards, it's the hardware equivalent of a hello world, and putting them in a deliverable is rarely justified

in this case you would know the pairing worked if your trigger unlocks; you don't need a visual indicator

another note: actuating the safety mechanism will be a bitch and will kill your battery life. you will have to design around it; don't expect this to be slapped into a COTS handgun

some of this could be excused if you wanted to include a battery pack for a torch which would also serve as a power source for the solenoid to actuate your safety. it's not clear from your wording what you intended (the power requirements for a flashlight are very different than that of a mcu)

you also do not need an mcu for this design, you could just use the RFID module to control the solenoid directly if you designed it well

I made a mistake, no need to be so upset. I was throwing around the idea of using a LED as a flashlight, not as an indicator light. If I had an indicator light it would be shrouded behind a translucent material so the lines would be smoother and it wouldn't shine into the user's face.

I was going to use a battery in the same position where a light would be mounted on the gun, but integrated into the frame. I may be able to fit up to a 2000mAh battery in this space but I'm not sure.
As I said, I'm not an electrical engineer or a computer engineer so my prototype would use off the shelf components. I'd like users to be able to add new authentication keys, which makes a more powerful microcontroller worthwhile.
I can't say how the safety will work internally until I have a gun in front of me to play with.

Next up, how are the sights attached, are they integral to the the frame or dovetailed in or something, asking because it could be further simplified with a simple guttersnipe sight a la the ASP. Also why have the recoil spring above the barrel as opposed to wrapping it around the barrel like PPKs and its derivatives?

Ahh, safety feature. Also the addition of a M93R style folding for grip at the front would be a nice addition,as well as maybe a simple wire stock for full auto control. Also you should try something akin to a 3D printed Astra 300
>>
Somebody should design a homemade blowback double barreled .22 SMG. Much lighter, easier to build, and safer than a 9mm, cheaper to shoot, more available parts and ammunition in shitty countries, lots of stopping power.

so a .22 villar perosa?

if you have the tools to make a blowback double barreled .22 SMG. then you have the tools to make spare parts for all guns.
