Looking to get my first rifle that isn't a .22. Mostly just have shotguns. Anyway I'm strongly looking at the vz58 from czechpoint and was wanting to maybe get some advice on here about which one to get.
They have a few different versions, including one with beechwood furniture. However it says it has drilled and tapped side holes for 'do it yourself' optic mounting. How difficult is that to do and what does it entail? Can I have a gunsmith do it?
I heard the hanguard can get hot on the VZ58, would having wood furniture help with that over all metal like on the tactical version?
Do you think going with the tactical/elite is a better way than just going with like the ergonomic version?
Thanks for any input

If you really think you're gonna mount an optic, get the one that's already outfitted for it. Save yourself the trip to the gunsmith, those guys aren't cheap. Either way you go, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Vz58s are great and I love mine more than anything.
Why didn't you put this in /AKG/? I'm sure some anons would help you there

Its not an ak.

people post about Vz58s in /akg/ all the time, it's no big deal.

I considered the Czechpoint for a while but ended up picking up a CAI Vz2008 that was for sale locally for a great price.
I have to say, I am more than happy with it. Very good relatively unknown and unappreciated rifles.

Thought I'd get screamed at that it isn't an AK and not get any advice.

Idk, I think I'd be pretty happy with irons, but I guess it'd be nice to be able to put something on it fairly easily if I ever did want to.
>>33786890
that's the gayest looking ak I have ever seen
>>33786890
It's an awesome rifle. The bakelite/beaver barf handguard can get hot but only unbearably after ~ 100 rounds or so in quick succession
I hope you like chin welding

they are bretty nice

its about as much AK as the SKS is ... not at all

>How difficult is that to do and what does it entail?
All you have to do is un-thread the plugs and bolt down the rail with some lock tight. It’s pretty simply but if you’re not comfortable doing it yourself a gunsmith would do it for cheap.
>would having wood furniture help with that over all metal like on the tactical version?
The ergonomic and tactical versions both have polymer furniture. I've never got mine hot enough for it to be problematic.
I have a Holosun micro red dot on an NEA upper hand guard. This is a good solid mount that lets me keep a co-witness through my irons.
In my option the only optic mounts worth using are the.
>NEA hand guard
>CSA low rail
>RS regulate rail
it’s troublesome to get a magnified optic on the VZ. Your kind of limited to fixed power optics like the ACOG or Primary Arms 4X Compact because the VZ ejects upwards.

look at it noguns it's an AK Christ I fucking hate you pol idiots
I feel a disturbance in the force...as if a thousand purists cried out in agony and were suddenly silenced

Shit bait

There is a nice side mount that the Czechs make for it. There is a low and a high sitting one, be careful about which you get so you don't have it at a height you don't like.

Alright thanks. I think I'll just go for the beech wood whenever they get more of those in and worry about possible optics later down the road. Should be fine with just irons for a long while.
Love that wood furniture too much to resist

Better view of said mount.
>>33786890
ARs & AKs are better if an option
Personally, i love mine.

There is one on ak files and cross posted to gunbroker for ~$800. Comes with 5 mags, bayonet, pouch, beaver barf folding stock set and a NOS beech wood set.
Pretty ok deal. Its a century vz2008 so yeah PSA had that for $400 back in the day but that was then and this is now
I love my CSA VZ-58.
Got the standard black polymer one. Feels great. Shoots fuckin accurate even with Red Army Standard rounds.
Its really simply so if you are a retard born with 2 left arms you can use it and maintain it.

Thanks for the pic bud
They look like really great rifles, can't wait for czechpoint to get some more imported
