I moved to Florida from England in the 1980s and the first firearm I bought was an FN-FNC. Much, much nicer rifle than the SLR.

It depends on your financial situation, really, and what experience you have with firearms. Moving to a new country costs a lot, and unless you've got that figured out I wouldn't splash out just yet. That said, you can't go wrong with a semi auto, a 12 bore and a small handgun.

Now do the right thing and keep voting left. Guns are ok but there's no need for semi autos in today's world.

Check Texas laws on residency and carrying. Some states (New Hampshire springs to mind) don't care as long as you're a resident. In WA it's "lawful permanent resident". Others and it doesn't matter at all, they're so restrictive that you need to be a citizen and have a load of paperwork and power.
