>>
>>33776340
yeah, it's okay
>>
>>33776340
Mine used to slam fire
>>
Yeah. It's not the most accurate gun in the world but it gets the job done just fine

I've probably shot 1200 rounds through mine and never had a single issue
>>
Good enough to commit a genocide with
>>
>>33776340
One of my favorites
>>
It's a semi auto rifle, what the fuck more do you want?
>>
>>33776383
I wonder if you could drill into the bolt and put some sort of little keeper bar behind the pin to make it slam fire at will and then disengage it again.

still probably the most affordable to shoot centerfire rifle
and a damn fun one at that

>>33776425
Considering what they sell for now, let's see..
>detachable mags
>better accuracy
>lighter by about 2lbs
>capable of mounting optics and the optics staying put
Now back when they were sub-$300 they were a decent buy. But with them being in the entry-level-AR price bracket now I don't particularly see people buying them on any merit other than their history.
>>
>>33776512
New Zealand here, best pig gun for the money.
>>
>>33776512
>just checked the price of them

Holy shit, when did that happen?
I paid $120 for a numbers matching one in beautiful shape, the gun store guy sold me on it. They had mix and matched ones in crappy shape for $80...

Then again I paid $40 for a nugget too, and those have skyrocketed in price aswell.
>>
>>33776540
You can thank Bill fucking Clinton for that. He banned Norchinko imports in the 90s
>>
>>33776426
I think when they slamfire, the bolt doesn't lock, so the breech opens early. This is problematic.
>>
>>33776540
Muh parents paid $80,000 for their house, And my grandpa said he could get a sack of groceries for a nickel!!!
>>

It's serviceable. I love mine, but I wouldn't call it "good."
>>
>>33776592
10 years ago you couldnt find an AR15 under $1000
>>
>>33776512
TFW you're old enough to remember the days of $99 Chinese SKSs.
>>
>>33776617
Bullshit.

10 years ago you could get a Bushmaster, DPMS, or Rock River for $650. Hell you could get a basic-bitch Colt for under a thousand, although just barely.
>>
>>33776636
Fuck mate it's an SKS, how fucking often are you buying them?
>>
>>33776592
My dad paid $35,000 for a 1400 square foot house on 9 acres of wooded land with a creek flowing through it in 1995. Granted it's in a shitty flyover state, but still.
>>
>>33776632
>tfw you bought a kinda-rough-but-functional Russian SKS for $60 at an LGS
The only gun I've paid less for outside of estate sales was a JC Higgins .22lr SAA-clone in horrible shape, from the same LGS, for $50.
>>
>>33776340
I really dig mine, I'd shoot it a lot more if I ever bought ammo again.
>>
>>33776667
How do Russian SKSs differ from the Chinese ones?
>>
>>33776636
This isnt even remotely true. I paid 1200 for a Rock River back in 05 or so. It had a fake flash hider because it was made during the AWB.

A DPMS Panther was over 900$ and was considered a huge piece of garbage. If you could even find the fucking things.

With the AWB supply and demand, prices skyrocketed, and then the subsequent panic buying after Obama. The prices have only come down due to over saturation recently.
>>
>>33776656
I got my first house, a ~1700 square foot ranch style, in 2001 for $50,000 even after closing fees. It was a fixer-upper but it was on 2 acres of land. Put a lot of hours but less than $10,000 into fixing it. Had to move in 2006 and sold it for $140,000.
>tfw current house cost me $260,000 and was considered cheap for my area
Fuck cities.

>>33776688
I'm no SKS guru but I know the bayonet is different.
>>
>>33776593
I mean, I've never had it happen myself, but I assumed it could cause a squib. Also, videos I've seen of it usually have a failure to feed the next round.
>>
>>33776688
One isn't Chinese.
>>
>>33776688
I hear it's of poorer quality, but I've only ever touched Russian and tacicool SKS'
>>
>>33776688
Better fit and finish, blade bayonet not spike, different wood and of course AAAAAHHH MOTHERLAND!!!
>>
>>33776690
You're off by a couple years there champ. 10 years ago was 2007, the AWB ended in 2004.

And yes it is absolutely true.
>DPMS
>considered a huge piece of garbage
By retards. They were basic-bitch but they were mechanically flawless. They literally STARTED the HPT/MPI thing.

clean it faggot, espcially when using cheap ammo with sealed primers.(the wax will gum it up).

>>33776688
>Chinese ones?
get more specific.
they are pretty much the same gun, but the chinese got all capitalist at the end and started putting out really nice and good shit that seperates them from the crowd. other than that a normal sks is just an sks no matter the country. the only thing that gives them value is rarity.
>>
>>33776774
>implying you can find an SKS-M or SKS-D for under $700 anywhere in the US
>accuracy is overrated for nothing, and who the fuck is gonna use an SKS in combat in this day and age?
>spend another $100+ on an already significantly overpriced rifle to make it still weigh more than an AK which already still weighs more than an AR instead of just buying an AK or AR
>>
>>33776704
Mine would run out the mag or double tap. The bolt doesn't really lock to the breech face so given a stuck pin you could expect less pressure in the system with a slam fire. I wouldn't think you'd get a squib, but it really depends on how much pressure is lost before the gases reach the port in the barrel. Which in turn depends on when the round is actually fired, my Russian firing pin doesn't protrude far so it's pretty much in battery when the slam fires occur.
>>
>>33776808
I've seen them slamfire fully out of battery. Pretty much as soon as the round cleared the mag.

Threw a hell of a shrapnel pattern out the action when the case disintegrated, fortunately the shooter wasn't hurt.

He said it'd been routinely slamfiring on him for years, it wasn't the first time it had had a full-OOB detonation, and he'd never bothered to try to fix it. In all honesty he probably deserved a good maiming.
>>
>>33776426
Why drill anything?
>>
It's inaccurate and surprisingly heavy for what it is.
>>33776383
Mine is quite the thrasher surplus example and it's never slammed on me. Clean the pin / carrier.

I just traded my Universal M1 carbine for it.
it came with a east german mag and a broken norinco bakelite mag.

I sold the bakelite mag for 85$ and bought two more east german mags a holster for 1911 and lunch for a week. I got a decent deal.

Why
>>
>>33776512

surpluses will always dry up and now the prices of the rifle are increasing untill they hit the limit of their overall quality. i say $500 will be their top off point and then they will just increase with inflation. The thing is sks in a lot of scenarios otehr than a straight of battlefield situation remain cheap and reliable for what they are. Some sks like detachable mags more than others so modding an sks slightly is not out of the question. Weight will always be an issue though.
>>
Yfw canucks still pay 200 CAD for russian Sks'
>>
>>33776340
>is the SKS actually a good rifle?
It's a very good rifle. There's not surprises in store for you.
It just is what it is... a 10rd capacity, decently accurate rifle made to be used with iron sights.
Accuracy wise, the ammunition you buy is going to have a larger impact on accuracy than the gun itself. Golden tiger is the best cheap steel case I've found.

Black Panthers, Antifa, and woodland bound /k/ommandos apparently

stock sms would suck in a modern combat situations with others with ak/ar. But i doubt most people will ever dace a legit comabt situation. But it is still a great shtf gun in a sitation and an all around rifle.

I got pic related recently for $300. The only "downside" is that it has a stamped trigger guard; everything else is milled though.

>>33776340

As a cheap rifle, it does the job quite nicely. 7.62x39 packs enough punch for it to be a good general use rifle, whether that be for standard hunting or your SHTF wet dreams. My eyes aren't the greatest, but I can easily get around 2" groups at 100 yards.

You don't even have to do that. Look at the trigger group and the way that the disconnector functions in relationship to the hammer. It really makes me think that Simonov thought about making this automatic. The trigger group is already set up for it.

The disconnector is depressed by the bolt when it locks into place. Normally the hammer comes forward a couple mm to a fire position. With a simple modification you can make the hammer come down immediately when the disconnector is pressed.

Don't fucking do this shit retards.
>>
>>33776340
Yes and no. Great beginning centerfire semi auto rifle.

I don't have a gun but I think this will be a good beginner gun, and also I live in new york so I'm pretty cucked with options so if I want a MILITARY STYLE CHILD KILLER it needs to have been manufactured before the 1950s apparently
